Chapter 627: Chapter 627: The Finally Calmed Incident
In the infernal dimension, Lucifer began to get excited. Meanwhile, on Earth, peace finally returned, and true peace at that. Not only had the previous tremors and upheavals subsided, but the rule that Lucifer mentioned, which had been devoured by the Earth dimension but couldn't be digested, seemed to have been completely assimilated.
At this moment, somewhere on Earth, a bus was speeding toward the side of a bridge, filled with screams. In the distance, Clark was flying towards it.
This was yet another instance where Clark had to save an out-of-control vehicle. Typically, these vehicles had lost their steering and brakes, so Clark would fly in front of them, using his strength to stop them without causing harm to the passengers.
But just as Clark was about to reach the runaway bus, it suddenly veered off and slowed down instantly.
"Skrrt!"
The screech of brakes echoed as Clark arrived. The bus successfully stopped, and the driver, pale and filled with relief and lingering fear, looked out at Clark.
"What? The brakes and steering are back?" Clark's x-ray vision revealed the bus's interior, leaving him momentarily stunned.
"Thank you, Superman, you saved us!" The bus driver, having regained his composure, shouted excitedly at Clark through the glass.
"No, you saved them. You're the real hero!" Clark shook his head with a smile.
"I mean, I was influenced by you. I didn't give up but kept trying to steer and brake. If it were the old me, I might have given up..." The driver looked at Clark with unwavering conviction, as if seeing his deity, because Clark was indeed his faith.
"Then keep that spirit up and enjoy your life." Clark smiled and nodded, his radiant face bringing even more excitement to the driver.
However, Clark didn't stay long. The bus's recovery might just be an accident, and he needed to check other areas to be sure.
"Superman... Oh my God, I forgot to ask for an autograph or photo!" The driver sighed regretfully after Clark disappeared.
"Brother, to thank you for saving us, I'm going to post this video online. It has you and Superman talking, and you both in the frame!" A man with a phone approached, patting the driver's shoulder with a smile.
"Really? Thank you so much!" The driver's eyes lit up, thrilled by the video.
"Why thank me? We should be thanking you!" The man laughed, and the passengers, feeling the relief of surviving, started thanking the driver and Clark, filling the bus with a harmonious atmosphere.
"There's still a few minor incidents, but they seem controllable. Could it be that the streak of bad luck is over?" Clark wondered, scanning various places on Earth.
As the most active superhero, Clark knew the usual probability of traffic accidents and other mishaps. Now, the situation seemed normal, matching his past experiences. But Clark wasn't completely convinced that the bad luck had truly ended.
After all, neither Clark nor Robert, nor the members from Kamar-Taj who later joined to help, could pinpoint the cause of the bad luck. Thus, they couldn't solve it but only try to save as many people as possible.
Given the uncertainty of the cause, Clark remained vigilant, needing to observe for a while to confirm the end of the bad luck.
Moreover, with accidents still happening, Clark couldn't rest and had to continue his efforts...
At this point, only Clark was busy. Other Avengers, extraordinary individuals, and volunteers found themselves idle, unable to observe the global situation like Clark.
"Could it be over?" Tony Stark, who had been nearly as busy as Clark, also received the latest data from Jarvis. Like Clark, Tony was skeptical and told those inquiring to stay alert, keeping his deployed suits on standby.
"Who are you?" Meanwhile, Robert, unaware that Earth's bad luck had mostly ended, turned his attention to Hancock.
"I'm Hancock, I... I..." Hancock, seeing Robert and Kara approaching, started to answer but trailed off, not knowing his true identity.
Having lost his memory, Hancock only retained his common sense and name. Remembering how he forgot his girlfriend saddened him.
"What's up with him? Why does he look so sad after saying his name?" Kara telepathically teased Robert.
"How should I know?" Robert gave her a look and was about to ask more when Hancock apologized.
"Sorry, I don't know my origin. I woke up on the street today and suddenly had superpowers. Then I met Superman..." Hancock began to recount his experiences, not only out of fear of hiding anything but also wanting to vent.
If not for the driver mentioning Superman, Hancock might still be wandering aimlessly. Now, having someone to talk to, he couldn't hold back his urge to share.
"Amnesia? Suddenly got superpowers? Are you sure you didn't have them before?" Robert's eyes flickered, suspecting Hancock might have benefited from the bad luck.
Though Robert hadn't found another case like Hancock's, the phrase "misfortune is sometimes a blessing" wasn't without merit. What if Hancock was that one in a million lucky guy?
"I'm sure I didn't have superpowers before because my common sense finds my current state very unusual," Hancock said firmly.
"Alright, let's keep helping those in need. Once this is over, I'll help you find your identity!" Robert decided.
"Find me? How will you find me? I lost my phone..." Hancock hesitated, unsure how Robert could locate him.
"Don't worry, I can find you. Just trust me!" Robert reassured Hancock before disappearing with Kara.
"This..." Hancock, seeing them vanish, was left bewildered, unsure what to do. He doubted his half-baked superpowers could help others.
Robert and Kara stopped not far away, both scanning their surroundings with their super-vision, finding no new incidents.
"Could it be?" Robert recalled Lucifer's words and the Earth's dimensional anomaly, his eyes gleaming as he projected his soul power to investigate.
The Earth's dimension was now calm. After a thorough check, Robert found no anomalies and contacted Clark, recounting his experience.
"Lucifer? He appeared again? The Earth dimension trembled? So, the bad luck is truly over?" Clark finally relaxed, still needing to be busy but no longer overwhelmed by unmanageable tragedies.
After informing Clark, Robert updated Tony Stark and returned with Kara to Hancock.
"Holy crap!" Hancock, deep in thought mid-air, was startled by their sudden reappearance. Seeing it was them, he relaxed slightly, though still confused.
"Those incidents are over. You wanted to find out your identity, right? Come with us!" Robert explained with a smile.
"Huh? Oh!" Hancock, initially stunned, quickly brightened up and eagerly followed.
Flying along, Hancock noticed his vision becoming hazy, unable to see far. But seeing Robert and Kara flying normally, he kept quiet, following obediently.
This was Robert's doing, as they couldn't let Hancock know the Avengers' base's location without precautions.
Soon, they arrived at the Avengers' base, and Hancock looked around, bewildered.
"This is the Avengers' base. Welcome. We'll help you recover your memories..." Tony Stark, in a good mood, greeted Hancock warmly.
Before founding the Avengers, even as Iron Man, Tony wouldn't have spoken so kindly to a stranger. But now, desperate for talent, Tony felt like Nick Fury, especially after the recent manpower shortage during the crisis.
"Avengers? What's that? A band? And who are you?" Tony's face fell as Hancock revealed he hadn't heard of the Avengers or Iron Man.
"Didn't you say he retained common sense and knew about Superman?" Tony turned to Robert, irritated. This was his first time facing such a situation, and it felt terrible.
