Superman's Saiyan little brother

Chapter 621: Chapter 620: A Series of Unfortunate Events?

"Why are you alone? Where's the other person?" Kara asked as she noticed Robert returning without Diana. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she glanced around. Not seeing Diana anywhere, she threw herself into Robert's arms and inquired with a smile.

Kara knew that she currently held the advantage. She had established her relationship with Robert earlier than Diana. However, Diana had nearly died in front of Robert, causing him to rage and lose control, proving Diana's significance to him. This incident had always been a sore point for Kara, making her feel at a disadvantage in her rivalry with Diana.

After the recent events, Kara felt she was at least on par with Diana, if not ahead. She had planned to flaunt this to Diana, but Diana wasn't around.

"Cough, cough, Diana just fought a tough battle too. She went back to rest," Robert replied, coughing lightly. But his expression soon turned serious as he looked at Kara and said, "Kara, let me tell you again, you absolutely cannot do what you did before. It was too dangerous. If Constantine hadn't frozen your injuries, even I couldn't have saved you!"

"If things get as bad as they did before, someone has to make sacrifices, right?" Unlike before when she avoided answering Robert, Kara shook her head and looked at him seriously.

"If my sacrifice can solve the crisis, then I think it's worth it. I don't want to see you die in front of me. If you die, I won't be able to fight the enemies, and then I'll have to watch our parents die in the crisis too. I don't want that to happen!"

"That's not a reason to sacrifice yourself! If you don't want that outcome, you should work harder to improve your strength. There's no reason why Clark can reach a certain level of power, and you can't," Robert said firmly, though Kara's determination made his heart tremble slightly.

"Even if you can't match Clark, you should still strive to improve. Diana's power has reached the sub-Father level. If you could reach that level too, we wouldn't have been so passive in the last battle. With Clark holding off Lucifer, the three of us could defeat Mamon and Gabriel together!"

Robert didn't want to see Kara or anyone close to him sacrifice themselves to boost his power. This world wasn't like the Dragon Ball universe, where such sacrifices were common and temporary due to the existence of Shenron.

In this world, death was real. Even if souls could enter the Hell Dimension, they would likely lose consciousness and face an enemy territory. Robert had already made enemies with top Hell Lords like Mephisto and Lucifer. Dying and ending up in the Hell Dimension would be a huge problem.

Therefore, Robert absolutely didn't want to see Kara or anyone he cared about die. If someone had to go to the Hell Dimension, it should be him first to pave the way and find a foothold.

"But my power doesn't improve as fast as Clark's!" Kara sighed in frustration. Even within the same species, there were differences. Kara felt Clark must have some mutation that made him so strong, beyond the explanation of the Life Codex.

"Then work harder!" Robert smiled, shaking his head lightly. "But for now, let's take a break. You almost died. To cheer you up, how about we go shopping?"

Though Robert didn't enjoy shopping, he suggested it to comfort Kara after her recent ordeal. Her eyes lit up at the idea, and she quickly dragged Robert off for a shopping spree after changing into a new outfit.

At that moment, neither Robert, Kara, Clark, nor the Avengers foresaw any further immediate danger. Mamon and Gabriel were dead, Lucifer had been expelled by Earth's dimensional power, and they believed Earth was temporarily safe. Any future dimensional invasions would make significant noise, especially if beings like Mamon and Gabriel arrived, causing noticeable phenomena.

"Why do you look so tired? We agreed to go shopping together, and it's only been three hours. How are you already out of energy?" Kara pouted, looking at Robert's drooping eyelids in a busy shopping district.

"It's been three hours, aren't you tired?" Robert was speechless. He felt more exhausted from shopping for three hours than from fighting a battle, especially since he had to give opinions on everything Kara tried on, and he didn't see much difference in the outfits.

"Alright, alright. Let's go eat then, okay?" Seeing Robert's condition, Kara remembered his long battle with Mamon and the powerful burst of energy he had unleashed after her death. She relented.

"Great! Food time!" Robert's spirits instantly lifted. He found food much more interesting than shopping.

Soon, they arrived at a high-end buffet. Given Robert's appetite, buffets were more suitable. Despite his wealth, regular restaurant portions and service speed were often inadequate.

"Clink!"

As Robert started devouring his meal, a waitress in the distance suddenly broke a heel, causing her to stumble and send a tray of utensils flying. Most dishes crashed to the ground, but a fork flew straight towards Robert's eye.

"Snap!" Without moving, Robert let Kara, sitting next to him, catch the fork. He didn't want to waste eating time on such a trivial matter.

"Sorry! I'm so sorry, sir, madam. I didn't mean it. This meal is on me as an apology," the waitress hurried over, apologizing fearfully.

"It's alright, just an accident. Ask the kitchen to prepare more food; he eats a lot," Kara replied with a smile, waving off the waitress's concern.

Neither Kara nor Robert took the accident seriously. If the waitress had any malicious intent, Robert would have sensed it. Both knew she was just an ordinary person without any special abilities, not worth interrupting their meal over.

"Thank you. I'll arrange it right away. Sorry for the inconvenience," the waitress responded gratefully, collecting the fallen dishes and cleaning up the mess.

"Crack!"

At that moment, a crystal chandelier above the waitress made a light sound. Though she didn't hear it, Kara and Robert did. Kara quickly pulled the waitress away.

"Ah?!" The waitress yelped, unsure of what was happening.

"Clang!" The chandelier crashed down where the waitress had been, shattering the dishes below.

"Ah!!!" The waitress screamed in terror, realizing she could have been crushed or severely injured if she hadn't moved.

"Sorry, very sorry for the unpleasant dining experience. Please go to the front desk for a refund and a free voucher. We can't continue serving today..." The manager arrived quickly, apologizing to the startled guests.

Given the circumstances, it was indeed unsafe to continue service. The chandeliers were all installed together, and one falling meant others might have similar issues. This time, they were lucky no one was hurt.

"What just happened?" Robert stopped eating, frowning at the frightened waitress. He felt a hint of suspicion.

Examining the waitress, Robert sensed nothing unusual or supernatural about her. However, two consecutive accidents made him wary. The coincidences seemed too perfect to ignore.

"Crack!" As Robert pondered, his chair suddenly broke, sending a metal piece flying towards Kara.

"Snap!" Robert caught the metal piece, his suspicion growing. This time, his doubt shifted from the waitress to himself and Kara.

"No problem here..." Robert checked Kara but sensed nothing wrong with her either. The situation puzzled him; the coincidences felt like supernatural interference, yet he detected no such power. It seemed they were just incredibly unlucky.

"What's going on?" The manager also noticed Robert's broken chair, looking bewildered. He muttered to himself, "Is something haunted in the restaurant? Should I call a priest or exorcist? Or the Avengers? Do they handle this?"

"I'm fine, just be careful," Robert said, giving Kara a look before they left the restaurant. They didn't take the voucher, instead flying to a nearby rooftop to observe the restaurant.

However, after watching for a while, they saw no further incidents. The manager, waitress, and guests remained safe, making Robert wonder if the bad luck was tied to him and Kara.

"This doesn't make sense. If it was us, why didn't anything happen while we were shopping for hours?" Robert muttered, disbelieving in luck. He felt there had to be some strange method at play.

"Crack!" Just then, the sign on the rooftop made a noise. The screws flew out, and the sign fell towards Robert.

"Snap!" Robert caught the sign effortlessly. As he steadied it, Kara retrieved the screws and helped reinstall the sign, preventing it from falling again and potentially harming innocent people below.
