Chapter 609: Chapter 609: Difficult Battles and Betrayal of Faith

Aware of the gravity of the situation, the Kamar-Taj students immediately summoned their magical powers. Even knowing the angel's backup might be formidable, they hesitated not at all. Robert and Diana were engaged in fierce battles, and Clark was inexplicably missing, making the situation grim for Earth's defenders.

Under the watchful eyes of Baron Mordo and the others, the holy light solidified, revealing the Pope's figure.

"Don't worry, Mordo, it's me..." The Pope, familiar with Baron Mordo, had likely shared intelligence with Gabriel, some of which was not entirely false. The Pope knew the strength of the Ancient One, making him resolute in siding with Earth. Despite the Ancient One's dubious reputation among dimensions, she remained Earth's guardian and mentor, even more crucial than Clark.

Though the Pope appeared much older than the Ancient One, she had been Earth's protector for centuries, and her contributions were known to only a few extraordinary individuals.

Mordo and the few knowledgeable Kamar-Taj students were aware of the Pope's existence and his good relationship with the Ancient One. Still, they remained cautious, given the Pope's unique position.

"What brings you here, Your Holiness?" Mordo asked seriously, not lowering his guard.

"I am here to address the chaos on Earth!" The Pope looked towards Gabriel, speaking solemnly. "An angel is best left as a belief, not descending to Earth, which would cause disorder."

"Sorry, Your Holiness, but given your unique status, we cannot let you through," Mordo replied after a moment's hesitation. Although the Pope spoke convincingly, they couldn't risk him aiding Gabriel against Robert and Diana.

Faced with the Pope's words, Mordo and the others chose to block his path, fearing the worst if he turned on their allies.

The Pope sighed, understanding their distrust. While his status provided protection, it also bred suspicion. If the Ancient One were present, she'd trust him, but her presence would make his intervention unnecessary.

As the Pope pondered how to convince them, the students hesitated to attack, recognizing the Pope's potential power and preferring a standoff over conflict.

Suddenly, a violent explosion echoed from the depths of the building, signaling the structure's complete collapse.

With a series of powerful bursts, the mysterious field shattered, bringing everyone back to Earth's normal space. The Kamar-Taj students' faces fell, knowing that Earth's integrity was now at stake. The battle between four Hell lords would soon tear the planet apart.

Desperation drove the students to try summoning the Mirror Dimension again, striving to protect their home.

Yet, the space shattered once more under the tremendous force, making their efforts futile. The reality of their situation was clear: neither Robert nor Diana could fully control their destructive powers, nor could they contain their enemies' might, preventing the formation of a stable Mirror Dimension.

Even if the Ancient One herself attempted it, there was no guarantee the Mirror Dimension could withstand the battles of four Hell lords.

However, just because the Ancient One might fail didn't mean no one could succeed.

As the Mirror Dimension shattered, another devastating blast erupted from the building's remnants, sweeping everything away, including Mammon, Diana, Gabriel, and the others—Constantine, the Hell Baron, and the demon, with Angela still immobilized.

Robert had unleashed the energy blast, a desperate move against Mammon's overwhelming power. Despite his growing battle strength, Robert struggled against Mammon, whose raw power allowed him to shrug off many of Robert's attacks.

Robert attempted to use light-energy attacks, but Mammon, unlike beings from the Dark Dimension, wasn't particularly vulnerable to such energy. Only pure holy light might affect him, not Robert's self-generated light-energy.

With his injuries mounting, Robert resorted to a massive energy blast to force Mammon back, buying himself recovery time to continue the fight.

Robert knew his energy blast threatened the environment and Earth itself, but defeating Mammon was the priority. Earth surviving intact would be meaningless if they lost the battle.

"What the hell? His power isn't that strong, but the energy he releases is terrifying!" Mammon marveled at Robert's energy blast, never having encountered someone whose released energy exceeded their inherent strength. This realization made Mammon wary, though he relaxed when Robert resumed close combat, seeing no immediate threat like the energy blast.

Robert, aware of the collateral damage from his full power, restrained his attacks to mitigate harm to Earth, using bursts of power when necessary.

Meanwhile, the demon facing Constantine and the Hell Baron grew increasingly uneasy. Blasted away by the overwhelming force, he reconsidered his strategy, contemplating retreat.

At that moment, holy light enveloped and began incinerating him, delivered by the Pope, proving his allegiance to the Earth's cause.

"You old codger left the Vatican?" Constantine exclaimed, recognizing the Pope and surprised by his presence.

Gabriel, battling Diana, also noticed the Pope's intervention, her eyes flashing with realization.

"It's really you? You've betrayed your faith?!" Gabriel accused, but soon puzzled. "Wait! How can you still wield holy light after abandoning your faith?"

"I haven't betrayed my faith; I just stopped worshiping specific angels and gods," the Pope responded calmly. "The virtues you preach are ingrained in me. Belief in you is unnecessary. Look at you, Gabriel, collaborating with a demon yet not falling. Your holy light is far stronger than mine!"

"Despicable mortal! How dare you forsake the Lord!" Gabriel, enraged by the Pope's calm mockery, launched a barrage of holy light and feathers at him.

Diana intervened, her bracelets clashing, unleashing protective power that neutralized Gabriel's attack. However, the collision caused further destruction, collapsing the ground beneath them. Constantine, quick to react, avoided being buried.

"Don't rush. Your strength is immense but lacking finesse. Rest assured, I won't attack them," an elderly gentleman remarked, smiling softly from the void as the battle's devastation spread.
