Chapter 600: Chapter 601: A New Discovery of Bait
"Damn it, Constantine! What have you done to me?!" Hellboy roared in fury the moment he saw Constantine, his aura surging violently. Just as he clenched his fists, those eerie chains reappeared in the space around them.
Seeing the chains, Hellboy's pupils contracted slightly. He suppressed his anger, quickly ordering his comrades to retreat. While ordinary soldiers weren't affected by the chains' properties, the demon soldiers were not so fortunate.
The demon soldiers felt as if they were being crushed under a massive weight, instantly losing their strength and becoming weaker than ordinary humans, barely able to stand.
However, the chains did not target the demon soldiers. Instead, they swiftly bound the surrounding hellish creatures.
For Constantine, using these chains came at a cost, but it was a manageable one. Especially since he could sacrifice these hellish creatures after interrogation to offset the cost, which was how he maintained his power's continuous use.
These chains were particularly effective against beings from dark dimensions like Hell or the Shadow Realm. This divine power, nurtured by the Heaven pantheon to counter Hell, was indeed the nemesis of many dark entities.
"Alright, I've captured these creatures. I won't linger any longer. Next time, try not to wander around and attract more hellish creatures. I might not be able to get here in time to prevent unnecessary casualties…" Constantine smiled as he spoke, a seemingly friendly reminder to Hellboy.
Although Constantine's tone and expression appeared well-meaning, Hellboy knew it was a taunt. Constantine was making it clear that no matter where Hellboy ran, Constantine could always send him back to Hell as bait!
This made Hellboy's previous resolve to avoid Constantine seem like a joke. If he couldn't find a solution, he would be at Constantine's mercy indefinitely...
Hellboy gritted his teeth in frustration. He had never encountered anyone as despicable as Constantine. If he could, he would turn Constantine into mincemeat!
But unfortunately, with the chains around, Hellboy could do little against Constantine. Moreover, Constantine could come and go unnoticed, even infiltrating their military base effortlessly. Hellboy was at a loss.
Thus, Hellboy could only watch helplessly as Constantine and the hellish creatures disappeared before him. He realized he would need to contact Constantine himself to resolve the bait issue.
At least by contacting Constantine, Hellboy could know when he would be used as bait, rather than being caught off guard and endangering those around him.
"He's Constantine?! How could he act so despicably?! These people in the supernatural world have no principles, no conscience!" After Constantine left, the military personnel expressed their indignation, deeply frustrated with Constantine, yet powerless against him.
Trying to gather information on Constantine to threaten him might be an option, but given Constantine's elusive nature, finding him wouldn't be easy unless he showed himself.
"No choice, I'll have to contact him. You all stay here; I'll handle this. Retrieve the tracking device; it made him react violently last time…" Hellboy sighed, feeling a bit comforted by his comrades' anger, but he quickly composed himself and spoke to them.
"You saw it too; these hellish creatures are beyond our capability. If it's just one or two, we might manage, but any more would lead to unnecessary casualties…"
"The key issue is that I can't predict when I might attract these hellish creatures. It could happen at any moment, just like before. We have no other option!"
"Don't rush; let's discuss this first. You go to the armory and prepare all our weapons…" The military leaders exchanged glances, unwilling to immediately agree to Hellboy's request, needing more deliberation.
They couldn't rule out the possibility that this situation was a setup between Constantine and Hellboy. If Hellboy went off-grid, they would have no way to find him.
Even though Hellboy was crucial to the demon soldier experiments, there was a lack of trust. Losing him would be a major setback for their military research.
The military leaders' deliberation took longer than expected, but they found no solution. They couldn't deal with Constantine or the hellish creatures, leaving them frustrated.
Finally, they conceded, especially after research indicated that the weakest of the hellish creatures matched Hellboy's power level, far beyond their current capacity.
Unless their demon soldier program achieved new breakthroughs, producing many soldiers at Hellboy's level or slightly weaker, they were outmatched.
Currently, they had only two or three demon soldiers of significant power, all irreplaceable experimental subjects, not to be wasted in futile battles.
Hellboy left the military base, attempting to contact Constantine to become bait willingly. However, Constantine, busy interrogating the hellish creatures, ignored Hellboy, leaving him in limbo.
Frustrated, Hellboy went to a bar in the supernatural world to pass the time, feeling sorry for himself. As he drank, a woman stumbled into the bar, looking terrified as if someone was chasing her.
"Save me… please save me…" she pleaded, but upon seeing the patrons, she froze, trembling violently, "No! It can't be! Demons and ghosts can't be real! This is impossible!"
At that moment, a demon entered the bar, openly revealing his identity. "Apologies, everyone, but she's my prey. Please, don't interfere."
"No! I'm not anyone's prey! This isn't real!" The woman, shaking even more, backed away, but the demon slowly approached, enjoying her futile struggle.
The woman bumped into Hellboy, who asked her with mild interest, "Why is a demon chasing you?"
The demon, hearing this, frowned at Hellboy, "Are you interfering?"
"What if I am?" Hellboy removed his cloak, revealing his true demonic form, and stared at the demon.
The demon, taken aback, asked, "Are you on a mission too? No, you're not one of us! Who are you?"
"A mission? Looks like I've caught a big one. I've become bait again…" Hellboy mused, then addressed the crowd, "Alright, this is between us now. Anyone else want to step in?"
"Take it outside. Don't wreck our bar, even if you're demons," the bartender warned, cleaning a glass.
"Sorry, I don't trust this girl around you lot, so does anyone want to leave before we start?" Hellboy asked, glancing at the terrified woman beside him.
To her, the situation hadn't improved. The demon before her seemed even more terrifying, like trading one danger for another.
"Hell's creatures are truly rude!" Some patrons, deciding not to get involved, left the bar, while others sneered at Hellboy.
Suddenly, Hellboy lifted the woman, smashing his fist into the floor, releasing his pent-up frustration from his encounters with Constantine.
The bar collapsed with a deafening crash. Hellboy's punch unleashed a shockwave that targeted every life in the room, causing most of the supernatural beings present to explode.
As Hellboy had said, the stench of blood clung to them all; none were innocent. Since they didn't leave, they had to die there.
Hellboy spared the demon pursuing the woman, intending to extract more information from him, hoping to negotiate with Constantine to end his humiliating role as bait...
