Chapter 599: Chapter 599: Interrogation and a Long-Awaited Reunion
Upon hearing Constantine's words, Hellboy took a few steps back, warily watching Constantine. He had attacked what he thought was Constantine earlier, although it turned out to be a magical decoy. Still, Hellboy couldn't be sure that Constantine wouldn't use this as an excuse to retaliate against him.
"Relax, we failed this time, but there's always a next time. I won't attack you, of course. But next time, you should avoid carrying any trackers, because after this experience, this place can no longer be reused," Constantine said with a smile, observing Hellboy's cautious demeanor.
In truth, it hadn't been easy for Constantine to bring Hellboy here. Constantine hadn't studied at Kamar-Taj, so he couldn't use mirror dimension magic or portal spells for transportation. He had relied on his magical abilities to confuse Hellboy's perception of the surroundings, with some help from the guardians, to bring Hellboy here.
Initially, this wouldn't have been necessary, but Constantine anticipated that Hellboy wouldn't come alone and might have tracking devices on him. Therefore, Constantine couldn't bring Hellboy directly to their secret base, as it would risk exposing it.
"You're planning to use me as bait again?!" Hellboy grew angry despite his wariness of the chains. No one would willingly become bait, especially not without their consent.
"No big deal; it's just your soul being transported, not your body. Even if your soul gets damaged, it's not a huge problem..." Constantine waved dismissively, showing no fear of the angry Hellboy.
"By the way, why did you return so quickly? According to my calculations, you should have stayed longer. Did something happen in the Hell dimension that I don't know about?"
"I don't know what happened in the Hell dimension, but I won't be your bait again!" Hellboy glared at Constantine and glanced at the smoking, screaming hellish creatures. Ultimately, he decided not to attack and slowly backed away.
Hellboy had no confidence in dealing with the mysterious chains Constantine used. These chains didn't just seem to be the ones that once bound the Holy Son; they felt like something more sinister, with a power that restrained hellish creatures and exuded an ominous aura.
"Fine, you can leave. I don't need your consent to use you as bait anyway..." Constantine didn't try to stop Hellboy, knowing full well that he had already obtained Hellboy's blood and opened a gate to Hell once. He didn't need Hellboy around to continue using him as bait. If Hellboy's companions got into trouble because of it, that would be their problem, not Constantine's, as Hellboy had chosen to leave.
Hellboy overheard Constantine's words but dismissed them, thinking that staying away from Constantine would be enough to avoid problems. He swore never to meet Constantine again, even if Robert was the excuse. He wanted to sever all ties with Constantine.
Hellboy couldn't help but acknowledge that Constantine's notorious reputation in the supernatural world was well-deserved. He was even amazed that Robert had known Constantine for so long without killing him.
As Hellboy retreated, he lost sight of Constantine. Relieved, Hellboy began to examine his surroundings, listening to the lingering screams of the hellish creatures.
"What kind of place is this? Never mind, let's just leave the forest first." Hellboy contacted his military agency. Despite being tricked by Constantine, Hellboy didn't plan to retaliate, wary of Constantine's mysterious chains. He believed that distancing himself from Constantine and denying him any further advantage was the best form of retaliation.
Hellboy quickly left the forest, and his military agency soon arrived. They were surprised to find Hellboy in such a remote location, but understanding supernatural forces, they accepted it.
Meanwhile, after Hellboy left, Constantine looked at the hellish creatures with a faint smile that sent shivers down their spines. As Constantine changed his magical gestures, the creatures felt unbearable pain.
"What are you doing to us?"
"Who are you?"
"Why are you torturing us?"
Amid their screams, some of the hellish creatures shouted questions at Constantine, who paused and looked at them with a puzzled expression. "Hmm, didn't I say?"
"Say what?"
"If you want information, why don't you ask? How are we supposed to know what you want if you just torture us without saying anything?"
As hellish creatures, these beings were pragmatic and adaptable. Despite the chains causing them pain, they eagerly responded to Constantine's questions. They weren't concerned about revealing crucial information about the Hell dimension. In their view, their dimension was powerful enough that no information could harm it, and their lives were their own. Dying for their dimension wouldn't earn them any recognition from its powerful beings.
"Hmph!" Constantine snorted and resumed torturing them. "Couldn't you just talk without me asking? No sense at all. You deserved this for making me torture you for so long! Now, answer my questions! How many strong beings in Hell are aware of the Earth's changes?"
"The changes in the Earth dimension are too obvious. Any strong being, at least at the demon lord level or above, should be able to notice it..." The hellish creatures quickly responded, fearing further torture.
"Why are you still torturing us?" one creature exclaimed, shocked that Constantine continued despite their compliance.
"What are you looking at? Are you all one group? From now on, whoever answers my questions the fastest won't be punished. But if you lie and get caught, you'll face double the punishment!" Constantine's threat was clear, knowing he held their lives in his hands.
"Now, my question is, after the changes in the Earth dimension, how many strong beings in the Hell dimension have shown signs of activity? Who is the strongest among them?"
"I know! I know a few..."
"Me too! I know some..."
"They're wrong. What I know is correct..."
Constantine's questions spurred the hellish creatures to eagerly respond, listing names Constantine had never heard of, overwhelming him with the volume of information.
Constantine nearly forgot that the Earth dimension was a highly desirable target among many dimensions. With the changes in the Earth dimension, it was no surprise that the Hell dimension's strong beings would show interest. Sorting through these responses to determine potential threats was challenging, as any of the mentioned beings might target Earth.
As Constantine sorted through the names and prepared to deal with the hellish creatures, Robert had already informed Kara and others at school about the dimensional changes.
Since the new term started, Kara and her friends had encountered several supernatural events, but nothing too troubling. They had grown accustomed to handling such situations with ease. However, this new challenge was unexpected.
Peter Parker and others understood that apart from Kara, they were unlikely to engage in high-level battles. They focused on what they could handle and hoped the dimensional event wouldn't affect their school.
Jonathan Storm, however, wasn't among those hoping for a quiet term. Otto, having recovered from a long period of rest, was now more devoted to his research. Otto had realized that completing his research was crucial; otherwise, he would regret it forever. He threw himself into studying artificial sun technology, even sharing his research data with his students. Despite Jonathan Storm's poor performance, he received a large amount of study material, which he found overwhelming.
"Do you need me to train with you?" Kara asked as Robert prepared to leave the campus.
"No, I don't need that for now. Just remember that a crisis is coming," Robert replied. He acknowledged Kara's improvement but knew it wasn't on par with his current abilities. Even in his base form, Robert had surpassed Kara's strength.
"Okay, I'll make sure to get more sunlight," Kara nodded reluctantly. She knew the gap between her and Robert had widened, and even with extra training, her progress was slow compared to simply absorbing sunlight. Kara suspected that Clark might have an advantage, as his progress was far ahead, even surpassing Robert's ability to gauge his true strength.
"Hmm? Is that aura...?" Robert's brow furrowed as he left the school. Sensing something familiar, he disappeared into the sky.
High above the clouds, Robert encountered a familiar figure: Diana. Her aura, potent enough to pressure Robert, radiated a divine light. Robert had sought Diana at her home and the Louvre but found no trace of her. Unaware of Themyscira's location, he couldn't search there. Yet, Diana had emerged from the island at this critical moment.
