Chapter 572: Chapter 572: The Line for Execution
Even those vampires and werewolves whose hands were not stained with human blood were not entirely left alone by the Avengers. After all, the Avengers initially chose to deal with the vampires and werewolves because Robert discovered the existence of the Dark Dimension.
The Dark Dimension, the source of the vampires' and werewolves' power, posed the greatest threat to Earth. Even though the Dark Dimension had not gained the upper hand against the Avengers and Robert so far, and its schemes seemed to have been thwarted, it didn't mean that the Dark Dimension had no other means.
Previously, the Avengers had easily disrupted the Dark Dimension's plans because they happened to encounter the consciousness of a powerful being descending from the Dark Dimension, allowing them to stop it.
However, if a powerful being from the Dark Dimension were to descend silently, like Dracula, and hide among humans while secretly targeting Morbius and Blade, eventually capturing them and resolving the Dark Dimension's flaws before invading Earth, it would spell disaster for the planet. After all, not every vampire and werewolf had mutations like Dracula, who gained the power to break free from the Dark Dimension.
Thus, even those vampires and werewolves without human blood on their hands remained under the Avengers' surveillance. The Avengers needed to keep track of their locations and situations to prevent powerful beings from the Dark Dimension from replacing them quietly.
Initially, even the seemingly good-hearted vampires and werewolves did not agree to this, as it involved personal privacy issues. However, these vampires and werewolves were not strong enough to resist. After seeing the Avengers' achievements and the potential threat of the Dark Dimension, they eventually complied.
Of course, Tony Stark also provided some support to these vampires and werewolves, researching whether they could overcome their weaknesses and use these weaknesses to reverse-engineer information about the Dark Dimension, hoping to uncover more core secrets.
Although the Martian Manhunter had previously obtained many pieces of intelligence from Serevis' fragmented memories about the Dark Dimension, Serevis himself didn't know the key issues of the Dark Dimension.
Even Hercules didn't know the secrets contained within the Dark Dimension. It was likely that only the enigmatic and often unseen Dark Lord of the Dark Dimension knew the most crucial secrets.
Facing the plan to help overcome their weaknesses, these vampires and werewolves didn't object, thanks to the efforts of Morbius and Blade. Compared to the Avengers, Morbius and Blade's racial identities allowed them to gain more acceptance.
After several confrontations with the Dark Dimension, the Avengers realized that the Dark Dimension's primary targets were Morbius and Blade. They had already overcome the flaws of the vampire race, becoming more perfect beings.
Fortunately, Morbius and Blade were not as limited by the source of their power as Peter Parker and Harry Osborn once were. While the Dark Dimension might be able to suppress them with its primordial power, it couldn't directly control them.
Otherwise, when they were in the mirror space, Serevis or Grant or any other powerful being from the Dark Dimension could have controlled Morbius and Blade's bodies, reversing the situation and achieving a breakthrough.
In contrast to the perfect mutants like Morbius and Blade, there were no similar beings among the werewolves. The most powerful werewolf the Avengers let go was a Night Werewolf named Jack Russell, who was still vulnerable to silver and other means.
If we look only at this point, werewolves might not have as many racial advantages as vampires. Vampires could fly, which seemed more impressive. However, werewolves were physically stronger, with fewer weaknesses. Even when restrained by silver, they could endure for longer.
Just like Luke, who was hit by Tony Stark's special palm cannon, managed to hold on for a while longer and walked his last steps with Jocelyn. If Luke had been a vampire, Jocelyn might not have had time to use Luke's claws to commit suicide.
While the Avengers had stabilized the situation, in the mirror space, Robert and Grant's battle was finally nearing its end. Grant didn't know how long he had fought with Robert. He felt that the combined duration of all his previous battles in his long life didn't compare to this one.
Such a prolonged battle could destroy a person's fighting spirit. Even though Grant had received a power boost from Hercules, surpassing his original self in the Dark Dimension, it didn't mean his combat awareness had also strengthened.
Although Grant initially displayed great strength, as time went on, the never-ending battle slowly calmed him down. He remembered Robert's light attribute powers, realizing that even in his strongest state, he couldn't defeat Robert. If Robert used his light attribute power, Grant had no chance of winning.
Thus, Grant's fighting spirit waned, and his thoughts scattered, especially after noticing Serevis' aura had long disappeared, which made him even more panicked.
Grant understood Serevis' intentions and knew where his current power came from. He knew that if he lost to Robert, returning to the Dark Dimension would be a nightmare.
But the more Grant thought about this, the less he wanted to fight, especially since Robert seemed like a maniac, getting stronger and more excited with each injury.
Initially, when his power surged, Grant could suppress Robert. But as the battle progressed, Robert's combat awareness and strength continued to increase. Each clash made Grant feel Robert's punches getting stronger, like an unrelenting fighting machine, making it impossible to see any chance of victory.
With Grant's internal turmoil, Robert gradually tipped the scales in his favor, further weakening Grant's fighting spirit.
With a "bang," at one point, Robert's power reached a new height. His punch made Grant's pupils contract with a sense of immense threat. Grant tried to counter, but his counterattack was like a joke in the face of Robert's iron fist. Robert's punch shattered Grant's arm and sent him flying like a meteor.
With a "crack," even with Clara's assistance, the mirror space heard a breaking sound. Clara, long supporting the biological field, managed to hold on, but the members of Kamar-Taj were not accustomed to such prolonged battles.
Compared to Grant, the members of Kamar-Taj lacked battle experience. Even in a support role, their spirits were beginning to fray.
Especially when Clara focused on stabilizing the mirror space with the biological field, the solidified space caused unavoidable distraction and confusion among the Kamar-Taj members.
When they heard the breaking sound, it was too late to react. Like a yellow card falling on their heads with a "ding," they were already stunned and couldn't react in time, likely resulting in a deadly mistake.
At that moment, the Kamar-Taj members were in this situation. When they came to their senses, Grant, his body battered by Robert's attacks, showed a look of joy and darted through the breach in the mirror space.
The next moment, Clara also disappeared, and without the protection of the biological field, the mirror space collapsed, leaving the Kamar-Taj members pale-faced.
With a "swish," in Earth's normal space, Grant, barely regaining his freedom, didn't have time to discern his location. He flew frantically, trying to hide and evade Clara and Robert's pursuit.
Unfortunately, while Grant's concealment was decent, it was no match for Alexander. Clara kept her eyes on Grant's position, and Robert's energy sense firmly locked onto him.
"Disappointment! You could have fought better!" Robert's eyes flashed with dissatisfaction as he watched the fleeing Grant. With Grant's combat strength, he could have showcased more fighting techniques. But Grant's performance ultimately disappointed Robert. Especially when Robert's power reached a new height, Grant could no longer pressure him.
Because of this, Robert punched Grant's body away, severely weakening his life force and power.
This situation further dissatisfied Robert. If Grant, in his current state, had lost the qualification to fight him, he also lost the right to stay on Earth!
In Robert's eyes, Grant had reached his execution line.
With a hum, Robert and Clara simultaneously released their powers. The humans below noticed their surroundings brightening. Looking up, they were blinded by the dazzling light, thinking, "What the hell? Why are there three suns in the sky? Are we on the Trisolaris planet?"
"No!" While ordinary people were bewildered and shocked by the light, Grant, pursued by Robert and Clara, felt immense fear. His cries of pain echoed, but he had no power to resist the invading light.
If we compare ordinary people's experience, Grant was like being burned at the stake. The intense flames made every inch of his flesh ache, but he couldn't move, watching himself die in agony.
Under Robert and Clara's control, Grant's death was prolonged, causing not only his incarnation on Earth to perish but also his consciousness to collapse.
With a "puff," no one knew how long it took. When Grant's Earth incarnation was completely obliterated, his original self in the Dark Dimension spat blood, lying weakly on the ground, eyes hollow.
"Grant!" As Grant's consciousness returned, Hercules appeared before him, staring intently. But Grant seemed deaf to Hercules' voice, sitting lifelessly.
A hint of anger flashed in Hercules' eyes. A powerful aura rose from him, pressing down on Grant, causing him to bleed all over, weakening his already fragile life force.
Theoretically, Grant should have felt immense pain from the pressure, but his face remained unchanged, his pupils unresponsive, as if his body wasn't his.
The reason for Grant's state was simple. Enduring Robert and Clara's execution moves on Earth had been too painful and long, numbing Grant completely. Thus, he couldn't feel Hercules' actions anymore.
