Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Thor's Promises

Seeing the Hydra members kneel before him, Thor's eyes gleamed with satisfaction and excitement. Although he had experienced more adoration in Asgard, and even though these Hydra members harbored their own schemes, it didn't dampen Thor's excitement!

This time, these Hydra members were conquered by Thor's own power, not because of his status as the Prince of Asgard. This was the first time Thor had achieved something like this without relying on his identity!

"Stand up." After gazing at the kneeling Hydra members for a while, Thor nodded in satisfaction and looked at the first member to pledge loyalty to him. "I know you were loyal to Tohru, but that's alright. Your former leader was also my former leader. I appreciate your loyalty, so follow me from now on..."

Thor understood that the person who had stood up for him earlier might not genuinely want to submit to him. This person might have had ambitions of his own but hadn't had the chance to reveal them yet. Even during the brainwashing keywords, this guy hadn't lagged behind...

However, these issues didn't matter to Thor. He didn't currently have any subordinates loyal to him. As the saying goes, "a thousand pieces of gold for a horse's bone," he could use this person to win over others and legitimize his position.

Of course, this approach also had risks, given that Tohru's fate was still unknown...

According to previous reports, Tohru had disappeared with Barry Allen, who later returned to the battlefield while Tohru was nowhere to be seen. But this didn't mean Tohru was dead; he might still return!

If that happened, those who had been loyal to Tohru might betray Thor.

However, Thor didn't care whether Tohru was alive or not. Previously, when he was Hydra Thor, his power wasn't far behind Tohru's. After using Asgardian weapons, Thor's strength was on par with Tohru's...

Now, Thor believed his power surpassed Tohru's, even without Mjolnir. With Mjolnir, a divine artifact, Thor felt even more confident. If Tohru were dead, it would be ideal. If Tohru returned, Thor was prepared to deal with him.

"Thank you, leader! I, Funal, pledge my loyalty to you, with no hesitation, dedicating my life and soul!" Funal stepped forward to express his loyalty, shouting his name so Thor would remember him. Whether Thor actually remembered him was another matter.

"What about those four?" Thor ignored the subordinate's name and instead looked towards where the Asgardian Four were held. For these familiar companions, the old Thor would have freed them and sent them back to Asgard. But the new Thor wanted to keep them by his side.

Indeed, the Asgardian Four had a strong relationship with Thor and would risk much to bring him back to Asgard to reclaim his throne. However, that was all predicated on Thor wanting to return and fight for the throne, allowing them to be part of his reign.

If Thor decided not to return to Asgard, the Asgardian Four would not stay. Despite recognizing the extraordinary powers on Earth, they wouldn't be interested in mingling with mortals. In their eyes, no matter how powerful Earthlings were, they were still mortals, unlike gods who should not compete with mortals.

Thor understood the Asgardian Four's mindset because he used to think the same about Earth. It would be strange if the Asgardian Four didn't think this way.

Asgard didn't completely lack people who admired Earth's simplicity, but generally, the nobility and royalty did not. Only a few soldiers, weary of war, might choose to live anonymously on Earth.

Thus, Thor was unsure how to handle this. Letting them go was wasteful, especially when he lacked strong allies.

But keeping the Asgardian Four unwillingly was problematic. Why would gods stay on an Earth filled with pollution and devoid of grandeur?

"They're here, leader. Are you planning to release them?" Funal, despite not knowing much, was aware of a subtle connection between Thor and the Asgardian Four. He assumed they were soldiers trained by a secret faction, not realizing they were actual Asgardian gods.

"Let's see." Thor's eyes flickered, and his resolved softened. He decided to see the Asgardian Four's reactions before making any decisions.

Soon, under Funal's guidance, Thor arrived at where the Asgardian Four were held. They were not held together; Hydra feared they might escape if kept together, so they were in separate cells.

The nearest to Thor was Fandral, who was already awake and questioning his life, as were the other three. The battle had distracted them, but captivity allowed their thoughts to wander, especially pondering why Thor attacked them, seeming to not recognize them and even showing hostility towards Asgard.

After all, Thor was supposed to be the future King of Asgard. This situation felt like betrayal.

Fandral hadn't figured out an answer when Thor arrived at his cell, making Fandral's pupils shrink...

Due to the earlier battle, Fandral wasn't thrilled to see Thor. He suspected Thor might be there to decide his fate.

To Fandral, Thor was no longer the same Thor. He seemed like a demon occupying Thor's body.

"Long time no see, Fandral." Unexpectedly, Thor looked at him with a sigh and called his name, surprising Fandral. In the battle, Thor had acted like he didn't know him.

"Thor?!" Fandral hesitated, seeing a familiar look on Thor's face but not letting his guard down. He frowned and cautiously called out.

"Yes, it's me." Thor glanced at Funal, who wisely left without a word. Thor turned back to Fandral and nodded slowly, speaking softly.

"Why? Why did you attack us?! Do you know the danger we faced coming to Earth to find you? Do you know how long we wandered on Earth before discovering your whereabouts? You..." Fandral, angered by Thor's words, directly questioned him, unable to hold back despite Thor's status.

"Sorry, the previous me wasn't the real me. And now, I'm not the old me either." Thor sighed apologetically, interrupting Fandral's questions.

"What?" Fandral was stunned, looking at Thor in confusion, not understanding his words.

"In simple terms, after coming to Earth, my memory was altered, and I became part of this Earth's organization. After you were captured, I reclaimed Mjolnir, and with Father's help, my memory returned. However, I've also been influenced by my time on Earth..." Thor explained his experience clearly. He knew he was different now, but he accepted and even liked his current self.

"You... What are you saying? Why did this happen? Was it Loki's doing? Did he not want you to return to Asgard, so you became like this?" Fandral, a warrior and god from Asgard, didn't fully grasp these mystical things. His instinct was to blame Loki.

"No, it wasn't Loki. I'm here for something else." Thor shook his head and seriously fabricated a story. "After regaining my memory, I told Father I wouldn't return to Asgard for now. I plan to stay on Earth and truly grow..."

"Earth? Midgard? What's there to grow on Earth? Loki has taken the throne as Asgard's acting king. We sneaked out this time... Wait, the king woke up? When we left, he was in Odin's sleep. How did he wake up so soon?" Fandral instinctively rebutted Thor but then realized something was off, looking even more puzzled.

"That, I don't know. Father used the Bifrost to fetch me, but I refused. As for staying on Earth, haven't you noticed Earth has many strong beings?" Thor frowned. He didn't know what the Asgardian Four were aware of or what Asgard had been through. He simply shared his plan.

"What strong beings? Without your intervention, those people wouldn't have been our match!" Fandral scoffed. Despite being captured, he didn't attribute it to Earth's strength. He believed they lost because of Thor.

"At that time, the original leader of this organization, Tohru, didn't intervene. His strength surpassed mine then. Later, he disappeared, and I lost to another mysterious figure..." Thor's expression turned serious.

"Even after reclaiming Mjolnir, I wasn't a match for a mysterious strongman who could converse directly with Father, ignoring his threats. Do you still think Earth is the same backward Midgard?"

"This..." Fandral hesitated, then asked, "So, you plan to stay on Earth?"

"Going back to Asgard means fighting Loki for the throne. Why go back? Fratricide? It's better to develop a new force on Earth, from scratch, surpassing Loki's Asgard!" Thor's eyes sparkled with ambition. He knew what Fandral and the others needed. Though he didn't want to return to Asgard, he could offer them hope, or as Earthlings say, he could "draw a big pie."

"In the end, this would prove that despite Loki's current advantage, the true heir of Asgard is still me! So, Fandral, will you stay with me and build a new, more glorious Asgard?"

"Uh?!" Fandral was astonished by this new, ambitious Thor. Though he didn't understand why, he felt somewhat satisfied. This Thor seemed more worthy of following!

"If... I mean, if the others agree, I don't have a problem!" After a while, Fandral responded. Thor's grand vision had convinced him that staying on Earth wasn't so bad. It seemed better than returning to be marginalized by Loki.
