Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 68: Attacking the Enemy from Behind

Under the moonlight, figures flickered through the dense forest, adding a ghostly aura to the quiet woods. The occasional sound of gunshots was terrifying, and the birds startled into flight screamed and fled into the distance. Soon, Luo Zheng spotted a dark shadow swiftly weaving through the jungle, moving as if able to see clearly in the night. Each step was firm, and his movements were incredibly fast, leaving Luo Zheng staring in awe. A word flashed through his mind: "master".

Quickly, Luo Zheng realized that this person was merely dodging the shots from behind, not returning fire or stopping anywhere. Suddenly, he broke into a run in another direction, heading towards a mountain peak. In the darkness, Luo Zheng, using the moonlight, noticed the figure seemed familiar. He squinted, trying to observe more closely. Within moments, the figure had run over two hundred meters away, making it even harder to see in the dark night.

Luo Zheng was surprised. Why was there a familiar figure here? He hurriedly followed. Whoever it was, it definitely wasn't an enemy. Soon, Luo Zheng concealed himself behind a large tree. He saw a large group of armed individuals swarm about two hundred meters ahead into the forest. Luo Zheng suddenly noticed two people in camouflage suits, holding sniper rifles, emitting a wild beast-like aura, and moving with the speed of cheetahs, quickly outpacing others and charging ahead.

"Master," Luo Zheng gasped in shock, quickly concealing his presence to blend into the woods to avoid being detected by the group. His eyes narrowed to slits as he coldly observed the approaching crowd. By their attire, these people resembled the drug traffickers that had chased him earlier. Who were those snipers? Could they be from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group?

This thought caused an image to flash through Luo Zheng's mind—it was Lan Xue. The familiar figure he had seen was definitely Lan Xue. She had come looking for him. Overjoyed yet worried for Lan Xue's safety, Luo Zheng did not hesitate to follow. The pursuers kept moving forward, paying no heed to anything behind them. Luo Zheng leaped forward like a tiger, throwing one of the pursuers to the ground from behind and without hesitation, slit his throat with an Army dagger.

A jet of blood spurted out. The armed man's mouth was covered, stifling any sound. A large amount of air entered his body through the severed trachea, causing severe brain oxygen deprivation, numbing his nerves and scattering his consciousness. Soon, he knew nothing. Luo Zheng dumped the body in the forest, collecting the man's weapon—an AK17, some bullets, and a grenade.

The AK17 is easy to operate, has a fast rate of fire, long range, high lethality, sturdy durability, and a simple structure. Its only downfall is its average accuracy, making it a favorite weapon among soldiers worldwide and particularly popular with drug traffickers. Luo Zheng was not fond of this weapon, but he had no choice under these circumstances.

After running about ten meters with the group, Luo Zheng spotted another lone armed man. Without hesitation, he attacked from behind, ending the man's life instantly and collecting his bullets. Luo Zheng then targeted another isolated armed man. Though the stealth attack was successful, it alerted another runner up ahead. Thinking of the pressure Lan Xue must be facing, Luo Zheng decided to go all out and opened fire on the armed man ahead.

"Ratatata!" The theoretical fire rate of 600 bullets per minute from the AK47 was fully utilized by Luo Zheng—30 bullets were emptied in the blink of an eye, and a dozen unsuspecting people ahead were abruptly felled. Knowing he couldn't stay, Luo Zheng quickly collected several magazines and turned to run.

The sudden change caught the pursuers off guard. Soon, the chasers split in two, and dozens of people followed an officer chasing after Luo Zheng, who heard the dense gunfire behind him but did not look back. Instead, he calmly ran, observing the surrounding terrain and landscape. Relying on the instinct of a Hunter, he judged which areas had trees as obstacles and where the bushes were impassable, finding a suitable route for retreat.

The followers behind Luo Zheng did not have his intuition and often took detours, inadvertently increasing their distance and significantly slowing their pace. Luo Zheng ran calmly under the moonlight, attracting part of the pursuers to reduce the pressure on Lan Xue. He was satisfied, believing that the remaining pursuers would not trouble Lan Xue, right?

An incline of over thirty degrees appeared upfront, topped by a mound. Luo Zheng quickly rushed up and hid behind a large tree on the mound, setting up his gun. He saw dozens of armed militants pursuing him, not far away. After scanning his surroundings, he noted that behind him was the slope, allowing a smooth retreat, and many trees in front which made it hard to get shot at— an ideal location for an ambush.

Having narrowly escaped death and seeing the pursuers hunting down Lan Xue, Luo Zheng held back his fury, deciding to fight back. As he saw the pursuers approaching, Luo Zheng switched his gun to single-shot mode. With a muzzle velocity of 610 meters per second, he didn't have to consider the drift; the effective range was 400 meters while the enemy was just 300 meters away— within the perfect shooting distance. Luo Zheng quickly aimed at a pursuer and decisively fired his weapon.

The bullet roared out, directly hitting the enemy's brow, smashing his head. The armed militant collapsed without a sound. The other pursuers, seeing Luo Zheng's precise shooting, immediately took cover, not daring to chase blindly. The dim forest obscured their vision, causing everyone to shoot randomly.

This was the effect Luo Zheng wanted; the gunfire could mask his own shooting. He aimed again at an armed militant. After thinking for a moment, he lowered the barrel and calmly pulled the trigger. The bullet whistled out, hitting the target's thigh directly. The armed militant screamed, writhing painfully on the ground, and his cries of agony traveled far into the night, chilling to the bone.

This group of militants was ruthless. The officer, figuring out Luo Zheng's hiding spot, ordered his troops to flank from both sides while leaving a group to provide covering fire. Luo Zheng had to admit his growing respect for the troop's resolve, but he remained calm in his prime sniping spot. Targeting their legs, he quickly downed five more militants. Now, the encircling enemy was less than two hundred meters away; it was time to move, or he'd be in trouble.

Luo Zheng decisively retreated, sprinting down the slope and covered over two hundred meters in one go before hiding again. Glancing back, he saw a large group of pursuers beginning their descent. Luo Zheng aimed and fired; the bullet struck someone in the abdomen. The scream made the group dive to the ground, hesitant to pursue too closely.

As the pursuers stayed put, so did Luo Zheng. He continued to scout and barely made out the location of an armed militant before striking decisively. The gunshot echoed, another scream tore through the night, carrying far. The continuous sniping infuriated the pursuers. At the command of their officer, the pursuers dispersed and advanced from different angles.
