Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 47: Captain Poaching Players

The shooting command was quickly passed down, and without knowing the inside story, everyone treated it as a regular drill. Only Luo Zheng had a vague feeling about something, but since Lan Xue didn't explain, Luo Zheng didn't ask further. Taking a deep breath, he relaxed his body and conjured the Breathing Skill passed down in his family. He quickly entered a trance-like state and took aim intently at the target.

Unlike the previous night's shooting, there was no intense training beforehand, so Luo Zheng's hands were steady, his eyes were steady, and his heart was even steadier. Hearing the command for free shooting, he did not hesitate to pull the trigger, firing off all his bullets in one go, then pointed his gun downward, glanced at Lan Xue, and focused his attention on the target. Luo Zheng felt his condition was very good this time.

"Oh, we've got a quickdraw here," the Commanding Officer said with a chuckle as he walked over, his tone somewhat mocking and displeased, "Don't tell me you got nervous and didn't hit the target at all? Snipers are not machine gunners; they don't need rapid firing. What matters is precision killing. In training, the kind of rapid fire Luo Zheng just displayed is almost useless. With such speed, how could he achieve the training's goal?

Luo Zheng didn't speak, but Lan Xue came over and said coldly, "Whether or not I hit the target, we'll know once we see the results."

"Eh?" The Commanding Officer was surprised as he looked toward Lan Xue. Catching the glance Lan Xue threw back, he understood, looked Luo Zheng up and down, unable to see how he could be sniper material. Pretending to be dissatisfied, he said, "Alright then, a soldier's strength speaks for itself—bullets are the language. I hope your language isn't nonsense."

Just then, an instructor ran over and saluted, "Comrade Commanding Officer, the 600-meter live fire sniper training has concluded. Please give your instructions."

"Instructions my ass, I don't have instructions—remember, we're soldiers and soldiers speak with strength. Bring me the shooting results; I'll check them myself," the Commanding Officer shouted loudly, feigning anger. The instructor was secretly baffled but didn't dare to question further and quickly complied.

It wasn't long before the targets were brought over and dropped onto the ground, arranged in a line, with bullet holes clearly visible. The Commanding Officer started from one end of the line: the first target had a score of 70, the second 75, the third 71, until he reached the sixth, which was 92. He was significantly taken aback; for 600-meter sniping, this score was comparable to that of an Ordinary Special Soldier. He glanced at the target number and silently noted it before continuing to inspect the rest.

After reviewing all the scores, the Commanding Officer faced the neatly lined-up Training Team with a stern expression and shouted, "I've seen your scores, and they're all trash, no, calling you trash is an insult to the word 'trash.' You are the trash of trash, and I'm very disappointed in these results. Of course, I haven't lost all hope because among this trash, I actually found a piece of wood, a piece that can be carved. Who was the one who hit the sixth target? Step forward."

Luo Zheng took a step forward, his gaze fixed ahead, his expression calm like still water.

"Very good," said the Commanding Officer, seeing it was indeed Luo Zheng. He had even more faith in Lan Xue's word. This score matched those of his Special Forces who had trained for more than three years. Truly a good seedling. He immediately said, "Pack your belongings and come with me."

"Eh?" Luo Zheng looked at Lan Xue with surprise, but seeing Lan Xue subtly nodding, he quickly realized that this was likely another of Lan Xue's arrangements; the purpose was unclear, the reason obscure, but Luo Zheng knew Lan Xue would never harm him. Standing tall, he answered loudly, "Yes."

"Commanding Officer, what is this about?" the instructor hesitantly approached and asked.

"What, do I need to seek your approval to take someone from your Training Team?" the Commanding Officer said with a displeased expression. "Don't forget your Training Team is the cradle of our Army's Special Forces, the place that supplies talent to the Special Forces. Today, I was in a good mood and decided to drop by. I didn't expect to find this piece of wood. Whether it's rotten or not, I'm not sure. I'll bring it back for some carving, maybe it'll become a piece of art. What, are you objecting?"

"Not at all," the instructor hurriedly agreed. Facing the questioning of his direct superior, even if he felt there was something problematic, he dared not utter a word of objection. Pretending not to see Song Yang's warning glance, he smiled obsequiously, "The Commanding Officer is right. It's just that I hadn't expected we had such promising material in the Training Team. This is all thanks to the Sniper Instructor." He looked toward Lan Xue, trying to discern something.

"That's part of my job," Lan Xue said coldly, her face obscured by a silicone mask that revealed no expression.

"Enough talk. Oh, right, this Sniper Instructor, I arranged for her to come help, she is not an instructor from our Special Forces. Take her with you when you leave, and tomorrow a new instructor will arrive for you to prepare for," said the Commanding Officer, his tone dissatisfied.

"Yes." The instructor was increasingly puzzled but didn't inquire further. Agreeing, he thought to himself that with Luo Zheng gone, at least he wouldn't have to be stuck in the middle anymore. Outside of the Training Team, nothing concerned him. With this thought, he was in a great mood and said enthusiastically, "It's rare for the Commanding Officer to visit; I'll go prepare some food right away."

"No need for that, it's still early and it won't affect your training. I am very disappointed with today's outcome. I hope to see a drastic change in three months; otherwise, I might have to consider appointing new instructors." The Commanding Officer said sternly. After the instructor had agreed, he turned to look at Lan Xue and Luo Zheng, and continued, "You two, quickly gather your things. I'm waiting for you in the car."

Luo Zheng realized there must be something going on, but seeing that the Commanding Officer also asked Lan Xue to leave with him, he naturally had no objections. He strode back to his dormitory, grabbed the Army dagger and the 65 Army dagger, and since he had arrived empty-handed, he had no luggage to take with him. Meanwhile, Lan Xue had a small bag. Once they all met up in the square, they moved silently to the vehicle.

"Get in," said the Commanding Officer as he jumped into the vehicle and started it up. He waited for Luo Zheng and Lan Xue to get in before turning the car around and driving off swiftly, completely ignoring the instructor who tried to make small talk several times.

On the road, the vehicle sped along. Luo Zheng knew that even if he asked about what was happening, no one would tell him, so he simply observed silently and centered himself.

The Commanding Officer was secretly observing Luo Zheng. After a good while, he found Luo Zheng remained composed and calm, which surprised him and also pleased him. He thought to himself that he may have truly found a gem this time and couldn't help but say, "What's your name, kid?"

"Luo Zheng," Luo Zheng replied with neither humility nor arrogance. Beside him, Lan Xue, who was resting with eyes closed, slightly curved the corners of her mouth, forming a beautiful arc. She didn't explain further, tilted to one side, and pretended to sleep. Having spent some time with Luo Zheng, Lan Xue knew all too well his unyielding character and waited to see what would unfold.
