Chapter 232: New Clues
Luo Zheng saw that there was no gunfire as he had expected and paused, hesitantly peering out into the hallway. When he saw no one, he signaled to the boss and quickly ran out, finding bloodstains on the ground. He reached the stairwell, no one was there, and he rushed downstairs to the hostel lobby. He saw a car start up and speed away while the hostel's landlady lay unconscious.
"Thump thump thump." Sounds came from the stairwell. Luo Zheng turned with his gun and saw it was the boss, looking frantic. He shouted, "Quick, they've run away, chase them."
The boss snapped to attention, glanced at the landlady, agreed, and hurried over. The two quickly got into a car, Luo Zheng drove himself, chasing after the escaping vehicle. It was late at night, the streets were nearly empty, and in the distance, the faint roaring of a small car could be heard, its headlights glaring. Luo Zheng floored the accelerator, and the Ferrari roared like a cheetah, racing forward wildly.
In the deep silence of the night, it was easy to keep track of their target. Luo Zheng pursued fiercely, his expression focused, his eyes cold as frosty stars, emitting traces of killing intent. As expected of a luxury car, the Ferrari quickly caught up to the target, a SUV. Its speed was not slow, but it was no match for the Ferrari. Luo Zheng stared intently at the SUV, and, drawing closer, he pulled out his handgun, one hand on the steering wheel and the other aiming.
"Dada da!" The SUV in front opened fire first. Luo Zheng had to slightly swerve to the other side of the SUV to avoid the bullets. Once stable, he aimed again at the wildly speeding SUV, not rushing to fire but silently calculating the SUV's trajectory.
As if aware it was being locked onto, the SUV zigzagged crazily, its speed exceeding 120, difficult to aim at from the side. Following behind made it a straight shot and easier to aim, but the SUV's wild gunfire could not be underestimated. Annoyed, Luo Zheng's face turned ashen. The boss snapped out of it, rolled down the window, leaned out, and started shooting at the SUV in front.
The continuous shooting, although not hitting the driver, applied psychological pressure, forcing him to stop shooting back and focus on driving. Luo Zheng was delighted, jerked the steering wheel, and positioned the Ferrari directly behind the SUV, just ten meters apart, his handgun raised again, targeting the SUV's rear tires.
Aiming from behind at the SUV in front was much easier, as the vehicle moved forward. Timing was crucial. Luo Zheng didn't rush to fire but instead counted silently, noting that every three seconds, the driver would swerve, running an enlarged, perfect "Bullet Avoidance Steps" pattern.
With the pattern down, Luo Zheng reconfirmed it, waited till the count of three, then aimed about half a meter beside the rear tire of the SUV and decisively pulled the trigger.
"Bang bang!" To be on the safe side, Luo Zheng fired twice. The bullets whistled through the air like furious tigers with slashing claws, tearing off a large chunk of the SUV's rear tire. Skidding uncontrollably due to its high speed and a blown tire, the SUV flipped over to the side.
After shooting, Luo Zheng firmly pressed the brakes, calmly watching the SUV roll over. He gripped the steering wheel tightly as the Ferrari's powerful forward inertia could not be stopped immediately. Seeing the SUV rolling over to one side, Luo Zheng quickly veered to the other side, passing by the rolling SUV and coming to a stop.
"What?" The boss watched the harrowing scene unfold, his face incredulous, his look towards Luo Zheng filled with admiration. Over 130 km/h, making an irregularly zigzagging SUV flip over like that was terrifying. He was secretly glad he had chosen to cooperate rather than oppose Luo Zheng. Such a person was too formidable to provoke.
Luo Zheng ignored the boss's surprise, quickly opened the door and rushed out, aiming his gun at the overturned SUV on the ground. He cautiously crouched down and saw a bald man in the driver's seat, unconscious and unsure of life or death, so he walked over. Smelling a scent of gasoline, he was startled and looked at the location of the fuel tank, which was leaking oil.
"Don't come over," Luo Zheng shouted to the boss, who was running up, and quickly dashed forward, lying on the ground. He looked inside the flipped over compartment, where, besides the driver, there was a submachine gun on the passenger's seat, along with a phone. Luo Zheng hurriedly crawled over, searched the body without finding anything, checked the pulse, the man was already dead, covered in blood. Luo Zheng quickly grabbed the phone and started running.
After running about ten meters, the SUV hadn't exploded yet, and Luo Zheng breathed a sigh of relief, signaling to the boss to get in the car. The two quickly started their Ferrari and sped forward. Less than twenty meters out, a huge explosion sounded from behind. Luo Zheng looked through the rear-view mirror and saw that it was the SUV they had just left, secretly relieved he didn't stay longer.
"Stop!" Luo Zheng brought the Ferrari to a halt, got out of the car and looked at the blazing SUV, regretting that he didn't get any clues. He opened the phone and found a message, an address. Luo Zheng didn't know the specific location, so he called over the boss. After looking, the boss immediately said, "It's a chemical plant in the next town."
"Let's go," Luo Zheng was delighted and climbed into the Ferrari without hesitation, followed by the boss. Luo Zheng took a map out of his pocket and handed it to the boss, saying, "What's the location."
The boss quickly located the position and pointed it out to Luo Zheng. He glanced at it, saw it was in the wilderness on the outskirts of the town, about ten kilometers from the small town and around one hundred kilometers from their current location. He immediately started the Ferrari and instructed the boss to navigate as they raced forward.
With less than two hours before dawn, if they missed tonight, the assassins would definitely move by daylight, making the rescue more complicated. Throughout the journey, Luo Zheng drove silently, the boss seemed to want to say something but ultimately remained silent. Under the night sky, the Ferrari raced towards the target like a runaway wild horse.
Half an hour later, the Ferrari entered the outskirts of the town. About five kilometers from the chemical plant, Luo Zheng turned off the headlights, driving by the light of the moon, and stopped about two kilometers from the chemical plant. Surveying the surroundings, they saw an open area, unobstructed, with relatively flat terrain, and could vaguely make out a large cluster of buildings ahead, darkly looming.
Luo Zheng stopped the car and turned off the engine, loaded all the empty magazines with bullets, and prepared himself before saying, "We've had a pleasant collaboration. Now I need to go in to rescue someone. You don't have to come. If I don't return by daybreak, take the car and leave. If I need anything later, I'll find you at the night club. How about that?"
"I'll go in with you?" the boss suggested.
"No need, they're all well-trained. You'd only be a burden. Just stay alive," Luo Zheng opened the car door and stepped out, walking forward.
"Wait a moment," the boss called out, anxiously getting out of the car. Seeing Luo Zheng's surprised expression, he quickly explained, "I'm familiar with the terrain here, I know a path that leads to the chemical plant."
