Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 231: Thrills and Surprises

"Want to know where our headquarters is?" the other party said coldly, his face so gloomy it seemed about to drip with water, his eyes filled with anger, disdainfully looking at Luo Zheng, "Fine, help me up first." As he spoke, he struggled to crawl onto the bed, propping himself up with his shattered palm against the bed edge, immediately staining the white sheets red with blood and grimacing in pain.

Luo Zheng felt that something was off with the other person, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong at the moment. As long as the other party was willing to talk, helping him up was not out of the question. He reached out to assist the other person up. The man leaned forward and Luo Zheng stepped back, exerting strength in his hands to stabilize the man, who then took the opportunity to sit on the edge of the bed and looked at Luo Zheng with a cold laugh.

"What are you laughing at?" Luo Zheng demanded coldly, his mind full of doubt as the feeling that something was abnormal grew stronger. Startled, he scanned the man's face with vigilance, his gaze falling on the window. He suddenly realized that the man's position and the window formed a straight line, unobstructed, and a flash of white light passed through a window in a building opposite.

"No good, sniper." Luo Zheng was alarmed, pulling the owner and moving quickly to one side.

"Whoosh!" A sniper bullet whistled through the air, leaving a bullet hole in the window glass, and hit the wall. Luo Zheng turned pale as he glanced at the bullet hole in the wall, tensing his body immediately, aiming his gun at the man, but noticed the man's face held a resigned cold smile, his eyes full of disdain, without any attempt to hide.

"No good," Luo Zheng exclaimed in shock, but it was already too late. Another sniper bullet came whistling in, emitting a terrifying screech. It entered the back of the man's head, turned his brain to mush, and drilled out through the front of the skull to embed itself in the opposite wall, leaving a bullet hole mingled with red and white matter, a clean headshot.

"Damn it." Luo Zheng was greatly shaken and filled with regret, thinking that he should have anticipated this. Too bad a prisoner was lost. Such a formidable assassin, such a clever scheme, feigning compliance to create an opportunity for a companion. If not for his own vigilance, he would have been finished with one shot earlier. That sniper was ruthless too; as soon as the plan failed, he simply eliminated his accomplice. True to the assassin organization's nature, brutal to the target and just as brutal to their own.

"Stay down and don't move." Luo Zheng, lying on the floor beside the bed, shouted to the owner, tossing him the assassin's gun for self-defense. He glanced at the window, knowing going straight toward it was out of the question; he would become a live target. Seeing the dead assassin's body, an idea struck him. He grabbed the ankle, dragged the body over, and heaved it forward.

"Whoosh!" As another bullet whistled by, Luo Zheng took the opportunity to get up, rolled across the bed to the opposite side, landed on the floor, and quickly crawled to the window to draw the curtains for cover. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief. He slowly lifted a corner of the curtain and peered through the gap to the front.

The residential area was very quiet at night, all the households had their lights turned off, and it was impossible to see inside the rooms. The room across from where the sniper was hiding was no exception. Luo Zheng let go of the curtain, leaned against the wall, and fell into thought. The enemy didn't hesitate to kill to silence someone; they were indeed ruthless and had precise shooting skills, making them difficult to deal with. Just then, the owner asked in a low voice, "How's it going?"

"Sniper, he's probably still there. Don't make any sudden moves," Luo Zheng warned, when he suddenly heard what sounded like a gasp from the corridor outside. It was very faint, and he wasn't sure. He listened intently, gesturing for the owner, who was about to ask another question, to be quiet. He aimed his gun at the door, and the owner, savvy as he was, quickly got the message. He moved to the corner of the room, pressing his back against the wall and also aiming his gun at the door.

He couldn't hear footsteps, nor could he hear any voices; outside it was deathly silent, but Luo Zheng felt there might be someone out there. He didn't dare to be careless; glancing at the bed, a thought struck him. He tucked the gun into his waistband, dragged the mattress up, and leaned it diagonally against the window to increase the difficulty of the sniper's line of sight outside. Then, he took cover under the bar and whispered, "Have your people come over to assist nearby."

The boss also sensed the danger and immediately agreed. He took out his cellphone, and while the boss was making the call, Luo Zheng dashed into the restroom next to the room door. Before he could hide properly, there was a loud bang—the door was kicked open, and a burst of gunfire spewed out wildly, "tatatatata!" It was actually a submachine gun.

The submachine gun was compact and had a fast firing rate in addition to its power. With a 40-round magazine, it was suitable for close combat and also easy to carry. Luo Zheng was taken aback. He hadn't expected the assailant to have such firepower. He quickly darted to a corner near the entrance and saw that the bullets kept spraying into the room, suppressing the boss who couldn't return fire. Luo Zheng silently rejoiced. If he had been hiding behind the bar just now, he would likely have been riddled with bullets.

"Die." Enraged, Luo Zheng didn't hesitate to shoot at the point of fire at the entrance. The angle was just right; they were only two meters apart. The hidden assailant by the door was hit, the bullet entering the center of the forehead, and his body stiffened, then fell rigidly at the entrance, as the submachine gun clattered to the floor inside the room.

Luo Zheng didn't dare to pick it up; instead, he concealed himself well and waited patiently. He had a faint feeling there were still people outside the door. The boss was at the main corner of the entrance while he hid on the side, in a pincer position. As long as no grenades were used, they could hold their ground. With such a ruckus, law enforcement officers would surely come rushing.

Just as he feared, a grenade came rolling in, emitting a trail of blue smoke. Luo Zheng was alarmed and leapt forward, grabbing the grenade with lightning speed. As he tumbled forward, the grenade left his hand, thrown outside the door, all taking place in about a second. Before Luo Zheng could stand, an explosion sounded outside.

"Boom." A powerful blast swept through, shattering debris flying everywhere, gunpowder smoke filling the air, and the whole building seemed to vibrate. Luo Zheng lay flat on the ground, covering his head with his hands, feeling the powerful blast rushing past him. There were no bullets hitting him; he let out a sigh of relief and rolled to the corner of the room.

"Are you alright?" the boss asked with gratitude. If Luo Zheng hadn't lunged forward bravely and thrown the grenade out at the last moment, it would have exploded right beside the boss, and the outcome would have been obvious. Having just narrowly escaped death, the boss was filled with appreciation for Luo Zheng.

"I'm fine, be careful," Luo Zheng commanded. He shot two rounds towards the doorway, and seeing no return fire, he peeked out while continuing to fire. There was no one at the door. Luo Zheng moved into the restroom next door while firing and emptied the magazine.

The boss didn't understand why Luo Zheng was firing blindly outside. Seeing Luo Zheng slip into the restroom, he hurried to shoot randomly out the door. Even if he couldn't hit anyone, he could at least deter the attackers outside from rushing in easily. Luo Zheng took advantage of the boss's covering fire to quickly change his magazine and calmly looked outside.

It was eerily quiet outside. Luo Zheng signaled the boss to stop shooting and then pointed at the body on the floor. The boss understood; seeing that Luo Zheng had his gun aimed outside ready to cover him, he flashed out from the corner, grabbed the body on the floor, and threw it towards the doorway. The body hit the floor without any response.
