Chapter 228: The Twisting Truth
"I hope you are not deceiving me, or else you know the consequences," Luo Zheng said coldly. There had been no progress in the situation thus far, but with any sign of hope, Luo Zheng was still unwilling to give up and tossed his cellphone over.
The boss quickly powered on the phone. Luo Zheng had turned it off earlier when sneaking into the valley base to avoid detection. After powering it on, the boss hurriedly dialed a number and spoke anxiously. After hanging up, he said earnestly, "My father truly wishes to meet you. It's at Mogan Town's night venue, to talk in person."
"Trying to trick me again?" Luo Zheng pointed towards the empty Gobi ahead and said, "Mogan Town is right ahead. If you want to talk, drive here alone with the person for the exchange, or else just go die; there's no room for negotiation." The view ahead was clear, making it easy to see if many people were approaching without worry about deceit.
"That's impossible. What if you've kidnapped my father?" the boss said anxiously.
"I see you are quite filial. In that case, let him arrange for someone to bring the person over. I have nothing to discuss with your father," Luo Zheng said coldly.
"I'm afraid that won't be possible," the boss said hesitantly. Seeing Luo Zheng's surprised expression, he explained with a bitter smile, "At this point, I won't hide it from you—I am just one of his sons. My father has three other sons. Without me, there would be no shortage. Compromising would mean losing credibility. How could he lead in the future?"
"So you mean you could be sacrificed?" Luo Zheng snapped coldly, "Then what's there left to talk about? Let's just fight it out; your father certainly isn't in Mogan Town, right? If you're setting a trap for me, just wait for death."
"No, he said he is there. I believe my father," the boss quickly said.
"You have already lost my trust, just wait for death. Also, you are part of the Wata Organization, right? Your government will soon launch an attack on the Wata Organization until all of you are annihilated. Having the entire Wata Organization as a funeral escort for my people, along with your families and descendants, is something I can reluctantly accept," Luo Zheng said coldly, his eyes full of ruthless murderous intent, growing heavier as the lack of clues made it harder to decide where to strike.
"No, you can't touch my family!" the boss cried out in panic. Seeing Luo Zheng's expression as cold and hard as iron, and completely flustered, he suddenly thought of something and asked with astonishment, "What did you just say? Did you say the government would go after my Wata Guerrilla? That's impossible, why would the government listen to you?"
"Impossible?" Luo Zheng was momentarily taken aback, then chuckled coldly, and snapped, "Don't you know whom you have kidnapped? With the relationship between my country and Ba Country, once the government knows who did it, they would act immediately without mercy."
"That's absurd, that's impossible. There are many guerrillas like Wata in Ba Country. We coexist peacefully with the government. Why? Because we maintain local security and pay a lot of taxes. As long as all guerrilla groups are united, the government wouldn't dare to act arbitrarily. The government won't offend the entire guerrilla group for just one hostage," the boss said, his face filled with disbelief.
"Hostages vary greatly; some of them you simply cannot afford to offend," Luo Zheng scoffed disdainfully.
"What do you mean?" The boss was startled, then sensing something fishy, he looked at Luo Zheng suspiciously. Seeing Luo Zheng did not seem to be deceiving him and recalling Luo Zheng's methods, his face turned pale as he hurriedly asked, "Are you implying the hostage is a VIP from your country, that you are a Huaxia Country special agent, not an assassin? No? That's impossible."
"There's nothing impossible. Don't you guys know who you have kidnapped?" Luo Zheng was taken aback. Seeing the boss's pale face and cold sweat, not appearing to be lying, he became suspicious and stared at the boss's eyes firmly, not missing a single detail, and snapped coldly, "Why is it impossible?"
"Because…" The boss looked panicked, his speech disorganized, uttering with an incredulous tone, "Someone paid us money to ambush someone in the merchant group. Kidnapping business inspection teams here is nothing unusual; it happens often, so we agreed. Who exactly are you people?"
"Congratulations on being used, offending someone you shouldn't have. Wait for your destruction," Luo Zheng said coldly, inwardly not completely believing what the boss claimed. Any guerrilla surviving this long was surely no simple matter; there had to be more to it.
"Are you really from the Huaxia Country government?" the boss exclaimed, his eyes fixed on Luo Zheng, utterly unable to believe the truth, completely disoriented. Kidnapping a business inspection team wasn't a big deal, as long as the hostages weren't killed and the ransom was paid, such things happened often. However, kidnapping a government inspection team was different.
"What your ambush targeted was a VIP inspection team from Huaxia Country's government, and the kidnapped were also from there. To appease my government's anger, the Ba Country government has no choice but to deal with you thoroughly, and other guerrilla groups, once they know the truth, will definitely not help you. Thus, you have only one future, and that is destruction," Luo Zheng said coldly.
"No, we did not know, we were used," the boss frantically pressed his phone's keypad, explaining in terror as he waited for a connection. When it finally connected, he quickly began speaking.
Luo Zheng couldn't understand, feeling helpless. Seeing the boss's pale face and rigid body, his phone slipping from his grasp and staring blankly into space as if spellbound, Luo Zheng was puzzled and snapped, "Playing dead?"
"Uh?" The boss shuddered, then suddenly collapsed to the ground, his face deathly pale, devoid of any color, with cold sweat breaking out and desperation flashing in his eyes. His lips trembling, he muttered, "I've been abandoned, just shoot me."
"Ah?" Luo Zheng was startled, then quickly understood and said coldly, "Your father abandoned you?"
"Can't help anymore. With the Wata Guerrilla kidnapping your people, we have truly offended your government; there's no room for reconciliation, we can only see this through to the end, unless you publicly declare that you will not pursue this. The condition, of course, is that we release the hostages, but they are in the hands of the person who hired us. We can't hand them over; we can only hide. Kill me if you must, but as an exchange, I only ask that you spare my family," the boss said in a tone of utter despair, his voice low and bitter.
"You handed them over?" Luo Zheng was shocked, his expression as cold as black ice, and he snapped, "Do you know how many they brought this time, where they are hiding?"
"I don't know. I've only met three, and it was my father who directly contacted them. Unless you find my father, who has already gone into hiding, I cannot find him either," the boss said weakly.
