Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Strange Combination Spell
[Third Person's PoV]
A portal opened just above the border walls of Kiten Town. From it emerged Stephen, Asta, Charmy, Finral, and Yami.
Finral still had tears in his eyes as he whined, "Why on my day off~"
"Well, I'll be off to see Mimosa!" Stephen announced, happily skipping away.
Asta chuckled and shook his head. "I've never seen Stephen so smitten with someone before."
Retrieving his sword from his grimoire, Asta hoisted it onto his shoulders. "I'm going to see Yuno—I want to see how much he's really grown!"
With that, he kicked off the wall and launched himself into the air. Meanwhile, Yami ordered the others to help evacuate the civilians.
Stephen levitated from the border wall and shot forward, soaring over Kiten Town.
[Arcane Magic: Bolts of Balthakk]
Arcane bolts burst from Stephen's hands, crackling with energy as they streaked toward the battlefield. The ground trembled and split apart beneath them, the bolts seeking out their prey like a relentless tide.
One immediately struck a Diamond Kingdom mage who had been attacking a Kiten Town guard. Two others split off, slamming into two enemy mages and sending them crashing through a wall before electrocuting them. Another bolt curved sharply along the cobblestone road before leaping upward, striking a mage who had been raining down spells from above.
Stephen wove through the streets with practiced ease, a grin lighting his face. Then, he spotted Mimosa.
She stood among the wounded, her long floral dress swaying as she tended to the injured with her healing magic. Large, decorative wings adorned her back as she worked tirelessly to stabilize Kiten's mages and civilians.
Stephen landed quietly behind her, a mischievous smirk forming on his lips. He gently covered her eyes and whispered in a low, eerie voice, "Guess who?"
Mimosa jolted, a shiver running down her spine before she let out an inhuman scream and started thrashing around.
Stephen burst into laughter as he released her.
Recognizing his voice, Mimosa turned, her face lighting up. "Stephen!" she exclaimed before leaping into his arms.
A moment later, she began angrily pounding on his chest. "Don't scare me like that! Especially not at a time like this!" she scolded, pouting adorably.
"Sorry," Stephen teased, still chuckling. "But we seriously need to work on your fight-or-flight response. That was… concerning."
Mimosa's cheeks reddened as she huffed and turned back to her patients, only to realize they were already fully healed. The civilians stared at her awkwardly, making her shift uncomfortably.
Stephen quickly opened a portal. "Step through here," he instructed. "It leads across town where people are being evacuated."
Noticing the Black Bulls insignia on his outfit, the civilians nodded gratefully and rushed through.
Stephen then glanced at Mimosa's wings, smirking. "So, can you actually fly, or are they just for decoration?"
Mimosa looked down and twiddled her fingers. "Decoration…" she admitted shyly.
Stephen and Mimosa both turned their gaze skyward, watching the battle unfold as numerous mages soared through the air.
Stephen suddenly looked back at her. "Want to try a combination spell with me?"
Mimosa blinked in surprise. "A combination spell? Aren't those really rare and difficult to pull off? The mages need to be completely in sync."
Stephen shrugged. "It's all about trust, really. I trust you. So—do you trust me?" He extended his hand toward her.
Mimosa's expression softened into a loving smile. "Of course, you're my fiancé, after all. If I can't trust you, then I can't trust anyone." She gently placed her hand in his.
Stephen levitated off the ground, bringing Mimosa along with him. As they rose, Mimosa closed her eyes, and a soft green glow pulsed from her fingertips.
Stephen raised one hand, forming a rapid series of signs as he murmured, "By the Seven Suns of Cinnibus…"
[Combination Magic: Eternal Sun Garden]
A massive magic circle materialized at the heart of Kiten Town, its intricate patterns glowing with celestial brilliance. From its center, a radiant sun began to descend, casting golden light over the battlefield.
Then, from the ground, ethereal golden flowers sprouted, their petals unfurling like a fusion of lotus and sunflower. They spread across the town—adorning streets, rooftops, and even the walls—turning Kiten into a breathtaking garden bathed in golden luminescence.
The sun pulsed, and the flowers responded in harmony, glowing brighter as they bloomed to maturity. Their centers—pistils of radiant energy—tilted skyward, as if drawn by an unseen force.
Then, in a single, mesmerizing moment, the flowers released a cascade of shimmering pollen into the air. It drifted like stardust, filling the sky with a breathtaking constellation of golden motes. Fireflies of pure light danced through the fading evening, an enchanting spectacle that left both friend and foe momentarily entranced.
That is, until one of the Diamond Kingdom mages extended his hand and caught a glowing pollen in his palm.
"AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
The moment it touched his skin, an unbearable heat ignited across his flesh. His scream shattered the battlefield's trance, ripping everyone back to reality.
He clutched his hand in agony, eyes wide with horror as the pollen seared into him like molten gold. The veins beneath his skin blackened, the golden light crawling through them like fire consuming parchment.
The flowers continued to bloom, pulsing in tandem with the radiant sun above.
At first, the Clover Kingdom mages recoiled, fearing the same fate. Yet, when the pollen drifted onto their skin, they braced for agony… only to feel a soothing warmth envelop them instead.
Wounds closed. Strength returned. Their fatigue melted away like frost under the morning sun.
Mimosa's magic flowed effortlessly through the golden domain, amplifying her healing spells to unprecedented levels. Deep wounds stitched themselves shut in seconds, shattered bones realigned, and warriors on the brink of collapse rose with renewed vigor.
But for their enemies, the light was a relentless scourge. Shadows were banished, leaving them nowhere to hide. Their bodies trembled under the sun's oppressive heat, sweat pouring from their brows as their magic faltered.
Spells fizzled mid-cast, their strength sapped by the suffocating radiance. Some staggered, exhaustion overtaking them, while others crumpled entirely—unable to withstand the unyielding purity of the sun's dominion.
The mage who had touched the pollen fell to his knees, his breath ragged, golden cracks spreading like fractures across his arm. His comrades recoiled in horror, desperately trying to shield themselves from the drifting luminescent spores.
One attempted to disperse them with a gust of wind. A fatal mistake.
The pollen scattered further, spreading like an unstoppable wildfire across the battlefield.
Then, as if responding to the enemy's despair, the golden flowers trembled—tilting their glowing pistils toward the remaining foes. Their centers pulsed once… twice… and then—
With a radiant burst, they unleashed another wave of shimmering pollen.
A golden tempest engulfed the battlefield, a cascade of celestial wrath descending upon the Diamond Kingdom forces.
Stephen and Mimosa stood at the heart of the radiant storm, bathed in starlike light, their eyes locked on each other.
"I missed you, you know…" Mimosa murmured, voice barely above a whisper as she shyly looked up at him.
Stephen chuckled softly. "As did I. A whole week apart… and as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder~"
Mimosa let out a small sigh. "Not to mention, we barely kept in touch… We had to make up for Captain Vangeance's absence."
As she looked down, a stray lock of hair fell across her face, swaying in the wind.
Stephen reached out, gently tucking it behind her ear.
Their gazes met again, warm and unspoken words passing between them.
Slowly, Stephen lowered his head, and Mimosa lifted her chin to meet him.
Among the celestial pollen, beneath the golden sun, they shared a kiss—lost in the luminous dreamscape they had created, forgetting the chaos around them.
