Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: There's Definitely Something Fishy Going On!

"Renya-kun, wake up, stop sleeping."

Renya groggily opened his eyes. Nara Motoha was quietly calling out to him.

"Ugh... is the exam over?"

He wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth and looked around. There weren't many people left in the classroom.

Nara Motoha nodded and said, "The exam's over. Everyone went out to eat and get ready for the practical assessment in the afternoon."

"Come on, let's go eat too."

The two of them took their lunchboxes to the training field and found a spot to sit down.

Some students had already finished eating and were warming up.

Renya opened his lunchbox and began to eat.

"Renya-kun, how'd the test go?"

Sarutobi Hiruzen came over with his own lunchbox and sat down.

"Not bad," Renya replied.

"Haha, that's good to hear."

Sarutobi Hiruzen picked up a piece of braised pork from Renya's lunch and put it in his mouth. His eyes lit up and he exclaimed:

"Wow, this is delicious!"

"For real? Let me try."

Nara Motoha followed suit, picking up a piece of braised pork, and squinted his eyes in satisfaction.

"It really is good!"

"One more piece."

"Same here."

Before long, the whole box of braised pork was gone—completely devoured by the two of them.

Renya didn't react much. These two often came over to mooch food and drinks from him. He was already used to it.

From a distance, Shimura Danzō glanced at the rice ball in his hand, then looked at Sarutobi Hiruzen whose mouth was glistening with oil.

"Hiruzen, you selfish bastard!"

Couldn't he have brought just a little for him too...?

It had been a long time since he'd had any of Renya's cooking.

At first, when Hiruzen got food from Renya, he would share some with Danzō.

But after that, Hiruzen never shared again.

When he ate, he'd even avoid Danzō on purpose.

He'd always sit with Renya, leaving Danzō to watch miserably from a distance.

But really, it wasn't entirely Hiruzen's fault. Renya's lunches were just too good.

Even Renya barely had enough for himself. Why would he share with Danzō?

He'd already forced himself to share a few times before—that was more than enough.

Shimura Danzō subconsciously swallowed and coldly snorted:

"Hiruzen, you'll regret this!"

One day, Hiruzen would regret not sharing that delicious food with him!

...

In the afternoon, the practical assessment began.

Senju Takuzen arrived at the training field with a box of drawing lots.

"Next is the practical assessment. Opponents will be determined by drawing lots."

In the match, students needed to use their ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu skills to demonstrate their combat ability and adaptability.

Senju Takuzen would assess students based on their performance—skill use, tactical decisions, reaction time, and so on.

Scoring wasn't based on winning or losing.

The lot drawing concluded.

Shimura Danzō looked at his result and his face turned green.

Damn it, his opponent really was Uchiha Renya.

He was seriously starting to suspect that Uchiha Renya had bribed the homeroom teacher and rigged the draw.

"Hahaha, got you now!" Renya's eyes were icy. "I'm going to beat the crap out of you until you're squeaky clean!"

Who told this guy to come looking for trouble first thing in the morning?

His written test score sucked and he was in a bad mood. Beating up Danzō would be the perfect stress relief.

Shimura Danzō's face darkened.

Sure, he'd lost to Renya before—but that didn't mean he'd lose this time!

He had been training late every night to prepare for this practical exam!

Shimura Danzō was confident—this time, he would redeem himself!

"Oh? Then you'd better win," Renya said nonchalantly.

Veins popped on Danzō's forehead. He wished he could fight Renya right this second.

Too bad it wasn't their turn yet.

The first match was Sarutobi Hiruzen vs. Nara Motoha.

Nara Motoha saw the draw result and felt like the sky had collapsed.

"Why am I so unlucky?"

Sarutobi Hiruzen smiled gently. "Motoha-kun, I'll go easy on you."

Senju Takuzen announced, "Battle, begin!"

Sarutobi Hiruzen launched his attack toward Nara Motoha.

"Bastard, don't underestimate me! I'm still a genius of the Nara Clan!"

Nara Motoha used Shadow Possession Technique, trying to restrain Hiruzen.

But the attack was easily dodged.

"What?!" Motoha was shocked. He was just about to redirect the shadow when Hiruzen had already closed the distance.

"I'm done for!"

He could only watch helplessly as Hiruzen's attack approached.

So this was the difference between geniuses?

"Sarutobi Hiruzen wins."

Senju Takuzen began grading their performance.

"Uchiha Retsufū vs. Uchiha Kagami."

"Kagami, this time I will win!"

Last time, Retsufū had lost to Kagami in the test.

He couldn't accept it. Why should he lose to a guy like that?

Since then, he'd trained even harder—just to defeat Kagami.

Uchiha Kagami smiled, "Retsufū-kun, I won't hold back."

"Bastard, you haven't won yet!"

Two minutes later—

"Uchiha Kagami wins!"

Uchiha Retsufū lay on the ground, questioning his life.

Was it just him, or had Kagami gotten even stronger?

"Retsufū-kun, are you alright?" Uchiha Kagami asked with concern.

That worried look felt like needles piercing Retsufū's heart.

He slowly stood up. "Kagami, next time, I will beat you!"

"I look forward to that day," Kagami replied with a smile.

Uchiha Retsufū: "..."

"Hyūga Muki vs. Utatane Koharu!"

"Hyūga Muki wins!"

"Uchiha Rin vs. Mitokado Homura!"

"Mitokado Homura wins!"

Soon, it was Renya and Danzō's turn to fight.

"Danzō, good luck!" Sarutobi Hiruzen shouted.

Danzō's face turned even darker.

That guy Hiruzen really just loved to make him look bad, huh?

"Uchiha Renya, this time, I will defeat you!"

"Go ahead and try."

Their battle began!

Their battle ended!

"Uchiha Renya wins!"

"Danzō, are you okay?" Sarutobi Hiruzen walked over, concerned.

"Get lost, Hiruzen! Stop pretending you care!"

Renya: "???"

Why did this scene feel so familiar?

The practical exam concluded.

Senju Takuzen began ranking students based on their written and practical results.

"First place, Sarutobi Hiruzen!"

"Second place, Hyūga Muki!"

"Third place, Uchiha Kagami!"

"Fourth place, Mitokado Homura!"

"Fifth place, Shimura Danzō!"

...

"Eleventh place, Nara Motoha."

...

"Twenty-fifth place, Uchiha Renya."

"You've got to be kidding me?!"

When Renya saw his ranking, it felt like the sky was crashing down!

There were only thirty students in the whole class, and his score was practically rock bottom.

"This is rigged, definitely rigged!" Renya protested loudly.

In response to his complaint, Senju Takuzen pulled out the test paper with the score of 5.

Everyone present saw the result and wore expressions of disbelief.

Was this even humanly possible?

Renya stared at the test paper and fell into deep thought.
