Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Theory Exam

The next day, at the residence of Senju Tobirama.

Senju Tobirama's eyes were bloodshot as he stared intently at a blood sample.

He just couldn't understand—how could the Senju and Uchiha bloodlines originate from the same source?

If the data wasn't mistaken, this meant that in some ancient era, the Senju and Uchiha were actually blood relatives.

That thought alone was chilling...

Who would've ever imagined that the two clans, who had fought each other to the death for generations, might actually be related by blood?

Just then, Renya's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

"I'm heading to school!"

A moment later came the sound of Renya's footsteps fading away.

Hearing that, Senju Tobirama finally realized that it was already morning.

Without realizing it, the whole night had passed.

He looked at the mountain of books piled in front of him, his face clouded with worry.

"What exactly is the truth?"

He had combed through the records of the Senju clan across generations but found no mention of the two clans sharing a common origin.

That meant, in thousands of years, he was the first to discover this.

Senju Tobirama was thrilled. If he could successfully unravel this secret, he would gain a deeper understanding of the Uchiha—and perhaps devise the perfect countermeasure against them.

"Uchiha, born evil... I won't give up!"

With that, he continued poring over the mountain of documents.

...

Ninja Academy.

Today was the day of the final exams.

Renya had come to school especially early to make the most of his time to study.

He'd accidentally fallen asleep last night.

If he didn't review in the morning, he'd really be screwed!

He definitely didn't want to score at the bottom again in theory...

"Renya-kun, you're here so early today?" Nara Motoha looked surprised.

"Well, it's exam day, so I came early to review." Renya took out his book and started going over it.

As the saying goes, sharpening your spear right before battle—better than nothing.

Nara Motoha scratched his head, puzzled.

"Is there really any need to review this basic stuff?"

Renya: "..."

He couldn't help but feel this guy was flexing in a subtle way.

Just then, Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzō walked into the classroom.

Sarutobi Hiruzen looked a little surprised.

"Yo, Renya-kun, you're here early?"

"Came to do a bit of reading," Renya replied.

"Hmph, why bother now?" Shimura Danzō sneered coldly.

Sleeping through class, then panicking at exam time?

What had he been doing all along?

Annoyed, Renya looked up.

"You'd better pray you don't run into me in the combat exam this afternoon. If you do, I'll beat the crap out of you."

It was bad enough not knowing how to answer the theory questions—this guy had to come over and mock him on top of it.

Shimura Danzō's face alternated between red and white, fists clenching in anger.

Renya's strength was in the top five of the class. If they really ended up facing off this afternoon, he might not stand a chance...

The frustration ate away at him. He'd trained so hard—so why was he still behind these guys?

Hiruzen, Hyūga Muki, Uchiha Kagami, Uchiha Renya, even Uchiha Retsufū could all overpower him!

"Uchiha... damn Uchiha!"

Of the five students stronger than him, three were from the Uchiha clan.

A seed of jealousy toward the Uchiha began to sprout in Danzō's heart.

Ninja from large clans really did have better natural talent than those from ordinary families.

If only his own talent were greater, he'd be at the top of the class by now.

Renya had barely flipped through a few pages when Senju Takuzen walked into the classroom with a stack of exam papers.

"The final exam is starting. Everyone behave!"

"If anyone's caught cheating—it's an automatic zero!"

Final exams weren't like the Chūnin Exams—cheating was strictly forbidden.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered to study either.

"Hope I can score a bit better this time." Renya prayed silently in his heart.

Senju Tobirama had said yesterday that this exam was very important.

Though he didn't know why, it surely couldn't hurt to do well.

Renya took the exam paper and looked over the questions, instantly dumbfounded.

"What the hell are these questions?!"

There weren't many questions on the test, but he basically didn't know any of them...

There were five major questions in total, each worth ten points, for a maximum score of fifty.

1. Basic Knowledge:

[Who were the first leaders of Konohagakure, Kirigakure, Iwagakure, Kumogakure, and Sunagakure?]

Renya: "This one's easy!"

[First Hokage: Senju Hashirama!]

As for the other villages' Kage? No idea.

Seriously, who has time to care about what the other villages call their leaders?!

He only knew the Kage after the First Generation. As for the originals—he had no clue.

2. History and Culture:

[The defining event that ended the Warring States Period was ______. What role did it play in shaping the Five Great Nations' ninja village system?]

Renya: "Tch, this one's a bit harder..."

After a bit of thought, he wrote: [The defeat of the Uchiha.]

As for the rest... he didn't know. Left it blank.

3. Ninjutsu Principles:

[What is the core principle behind medical ninjutsu? When treating fractures and poison infections, what are the key steps that must be followed?]

Renya scratched his head. "I'm not a medical ninja, though?"

Shouldn't this question be for medical-nin?

He wasn't one, so...

Forget it. Leaving it blank too.

4. Tactical Analysis:

[When on a reconnaissance mission, what counter-reconnaissance measures should be taken? Please propose three strategies based on terrain and ninjutsu.]

Renya was moved to tears. "Haha! Finally, something I know!"

[Erase footprints, conceal your presence, mask your chakra!]

5. Open-ended Essay:

[Explain the symbolic meaning of a ninja forehead protector, and analyze its practical role in diplomacy and mission execution.]

Renya: "..."

What kind of question is this?

Whatever, I'm tired. This'll do.

Failing's fine.

It wouldn't be the first time anyway.

Clearly, he just wasn't cut out for academic work.

While the other students diligently wrote their answers, Renya laid his head down and went to sleep.

Senju Takuzen noticed and raised an eyebrow.

This brat finished that quickly?

He silently walked up to Renya and glanced at his exam paper.

First question—five blanks, only one filled.

Senju Takuzen frowned deeply and looked at the second question.

When he saw Renya's answer, he nearly blacked out.

Seriously? "The defeat of the Uchiha"?

The correct answer was [The founding of Konohagakure]!

He moved on to the third question—completely blank.

Senju Takuzen: "..."

Fourth question—partially correct. He could only give three points out of ten.

Fifth question—still blank.

Senju Takuzen's eyelid twitched violently. For a moment, he didn't know what to say.

To not even know these basic questions—had this kid ever paid attention in class?

Adding up the 2 points for the first question and 3 for the fourth, Renya's theory score was...

A grand total of 5 points!!!

Senju Takuzen began doubting life itself.

This kid Renya... was he even human?

He might've already gone beyond the realm of humanity!

Sure, ninja valued strength above all, and academic knowledge wasn't everything.

But it couldn't be this low, right?

A score of 5 in a culture exam...

In all his years of teaching, this was the first time he'd ever seen such a thing!
