No matter what others might have thought or assumed, the truth was undeniable—Lucas had just entered the nightmare difficulty dungeon right after clearing the hard mode.
The red glow from the Star Whirlpool Gate didn't lie.
Red meant nightmare. No exceptions.
"He really went into nightmare difficulty..." Martha whispered in shock, her red lips slightly parted. "So he… didn't quit earlier? He actually finished the hard dungeon?"
Her voice trembled with disbelief. "And it only took him a few minutes? Alone?"
That didn't sound possible.
Even for her five-person squad, their best hard-mode clear time was over forty minutes, and that was with a balanced team: tank, healer, and three DPS.
But Lucas had done it solo?
And in mere minutes?
Her mind struggled to imagine it. That ogre boss had over 20,000 HP. Once enraged, it became incredibly hard to deal with. It wasn't just a damage sponge—it was a walking meat grinder.
Martha's brows furrowed. How did Lucas do it?
Before she could process it more, Zach Darnell slapped his thigh and scoffed.
"Ah! I get it now!" he said loudly. "That guy isn't Level 20 at all. He's gotta be hiding his real level!"
Zach puffed up his chest and looked smug. "If he really cleared hard mode by himself, then he's gotta be, like, Level 40. Maybe even a second-tier class!"
He chuckled, eyes gleaming with false confidence. "A fresh little assassin at Level 20 clearing a hard-mode dungeon solo? Ha! Who would believe that nonsense?"
He pointed toward the gate. "He's pretending. Faking. Trying to lure us in."
Zach's conspiracy theory kept growing. "He knew if he teamed up with us, we'd see his real level. So he avoided it. He's no newbie—he's probably a high-level vet pretending to be weak just to mess with us."
"He's definitely here for Martha," Zach added bitterly. "Playing the innocent rookie to get close to her. Classic pretty-boy move. Shameless."
His jealousy practically dripped from every word.
"But… he looks really young," Alexis Lane, the quiet female teammate, interrupted, frowning. "I even thought he might be… like, still in high school?"
"High school?" Zach laughed mockingly. "Come on, Alexis. You're not gonna say he's some freshly awakened talent from this year, are you?"
He waved her off. "Even Tianhai City only had three S-Rank awakenings this year. That was, what—less than a month ago? No one, not even an S-Talent, can hit Level 20 and solo hard-mode in that time."
"Let alone walk into nightmare difficulty," he added with a scoff. "He probably just looks young. Guy's probably pushing thirty, playing cute."
Zach folded his arms triumphantly, convinced he'd figured it out. "Total scam artist."
Alexis stayed quiet. She couldn't refute his logic—even though something still felt… off.
One person walking into a nightmare-level dungeon? Even a top-tier transfer shouldn't dare do that without backup.
But Martha wasn't convinced either, and her silence spoke volumes.
She stared at the glowing portal, watching the red light begin to fade.
Her instincts told her something else entirely.
Lucas might really be Level 20. He might not have even completed his first class transfer yet.
But the way he spoke earlier—calm, respectful, and collected—it hadn't seemed fake at all. And the way he acted... it didn't match Zach's accusations.
"No," she thought. "He wasn't lying. I know it."
Still, she couldn't explain his behavior either. Why would someone immediately go from hard-mode to nightmare mode like that? Alone?
There was no benefit in pretending. There was no trap to lay.
Unless… he was just that strong.
"Did I misjudge him?"
Was Lucas actually a master? A hidden dragon passing through the gate unnoticed?
She wanted answers—but there was no way to verify his level. Using a detection scroll on another player without permission was considered hostile and offensive.
No one would do it unless they were ready to make an enemy.
Even Zach, as bitter and jealous as he was, wouldn't cross that line—unless he was ready for full-blown conflict.

Meanwhile, inside the dungeon…
Lucas wasn't thinking about the gossip or stares outside. He had already entered the nightmare dungeon and was fully focused on the battle ahead.
Immediately, he noticed the difference.
The werewolves were stronger—much stronger.
Compared to the hard mode, their base stats had gone up at least 30%. That might not sound like much, but in terms of gameplay, it was massive.
"Tch, can't one-shot them anymore," he muttered.
His normal attacks left a few hundred HP on them. He had to follow up with a second blow to finish the job.
Still, with his twin daggers and rapid strike speed, he made quick work of each pack.
Every group of werewolves took him just 10 to 15 seconds to wipe out.
He could've used skills to kill them instantly, but that would waste stamina—not worth it.
The real test came later.
On the fifth wave and final wave of enemies, two new Elite-level werewolves appeared.
"Whoa." Lucas blinked. "Didn't expect that."
These weren't normal enemies. They had higher defense, more health, and hit harder.
The Elite werewolves led the packs and coordinated attacks with the others.
And this time, Lucas couldn't avoid everything.
One of the elites landed a hit. Then another.
For the first time in a while, Lucas took actual damage.
He grimaced, checking his HP bar. "Quarter health gone…"
No priest. No healer. No problem.
Thanks to his SSS-level talent, he had 50% damage reduction, and his base stats were stacked high. A couple of potions later, he was fine.
With some quick footwork and a few well-timed skills, he took down both Elites.
Unfortunately, they only dropped materials—not equipment.
"Come on, give me something useful," Lucas grumbled.
Still, the materials were good—likely rare-grade. He tucked them away and pressed forward.
Finally, he reached the boss lair.
And there it was again: the towering ogre.
But this time, it was stronger. Faster. Deadlier. And… it had a new skill.
Didn't matter.
Lucas moved like a shadow, slipping through the ogre's attacks. Its swings, even enhanced, couldn't touch him.
He danced around it, chipping away at its health.
Two skill combos later, the boss screamed in fury and collapsed.
And then it happened.
A brilliant light exploded from its body.
Equipment!
Lucas's heart skipped a beat. That golden glow—it could only mean one thing.
He had finally looted gear.
"Finally…" he whispered, stepping forward with a wide grin.
