Chapter 35: Chapter 32
I opened my eyes after waking up from jizen. Right now I am currently inside my house in Soul Society. The whole invasion of the theocracy went smoothly and a new government was established. The funny thing is that one theocracy replaced another. Works similarly, but all of them are my priests and all that. Hopefully, they will be able to change the mindset of the idiots residing there.
There were some problems of course like people trying to rebel due to the deeply rooted racism, but let's say they don't really stand a chance against supernatural ghosts that take care of the dead.
As for the elves... After getting absolutely bodied by both kenpachis and the captain commander, they decided to stop and even came to sign a peace treaty. Most likely realising that the theocracy is no more and the new rulers are not asshats like those who were enslaving them all. Hopefully, the peace will last, or at least for now.
For now, the only remaining issue is the black scripture. The elites of the destroyed theocracy have a world-level item with them. At the moment of our operations, they were away, but they could be back at any given moment. They are not really that dangerous for us as it's possible to deal with them with just one or two captains, but the world-level item is troubling. From what my husband said it's the 'downfall of castle and country' which basically forces mind control on anyone completely omitting resistances and stuff like that.
The only thing capable of stopping it from working is being in possession of another item of that class. Unfortunately, I don't have any, maybe skele-boi can borrow me some?
So I went to see him. Of course, as soon as I wanted to get through a senkaimon I was surrounded by the ninja wannabes. When will they understand that if something that poses a threat to me ever appears, then they will be useless? Sigh.
Anyway, I appeared close to the Nazarick and felt the energy of some servants from the tomb in the nearby forests. What are they doing? Exploring? Or maybe something else.
I shunpoed a few times to get to the forest and saw... something weird.
Somehow Albedo knew I was coming and she bowed even before I appeared. I wonder how many times I need to tell her to not do that until she stops.
Meanwhile, I looked at Ainz who was sitting on Shaltear. Yes, he is sitting on a vampire loli who to my not-so-big surprise seems to be delighted to be treated this way.
It's getting weird each time I appear...
He flinches seeing me and before I can ask for answers quickly to spare the embarrassment.
"Oh, Atsune. I can explain that. During the fight with the black scripture, my mind was controlled."
Huh? When did that happen?
"And then she wanted to be punished so I thought..."
I stopped him right there to talk about more important things. The fight with black scripture is way more in need of explanation rather than his kinks.
"Wait! What do you mean, you fought them?!"
He seems confused. Most likely thinking I knew.
"When you were playing with the theocracy we tracked them. At first, we were cautious in case they had more world-level items, but after confirming they had not we fought with them. Somehow shalltear got mind-controlled. Thankfully she was able to get out of it and we killed them."
Then before answering, I heard my zanpakuto again.
'Hm. To think she got done for anyway. At least it had way less of an impact than predicted.'
Right, he knew this might have happened.
A sudden weight was taken out of my shoulders, mainly because the greatest threat was gone. At least a known threat.
I glanced at the still-kneeling Albedo. I need to figure out If I want her to join Soul Society. To begin with there is really not much reason to refuse. Ainz is completely for it, Albedo herself is turbo loyal and strong too. Alright.
"Albedo, gather your things. I will come for you tomorrow."
Her eyes lit up.
"Really?"
I rolled my eyes. Why ask for confirmation? It's not like I had a habit of saying things I didn't mean. Still, I couldn't help but notice the mixture of surprise and excitement in the expressions of the others. It was as if they couldn't believe what they were hearing. Maybe it was the idea of Albedo leaving Nazarick, or maybe it was the idea of her joining Soul Society. Whatever it was, it was amusing.
Ainz looked at me for a moment, then turned his attention back to the kneeling Albedo. Demiurge, however, didn't seem too thrilled. His calculating eyes flickered as if assessing the potential loss of power to Nazarick. I understood his concerns. Albedo was one of the most powerful entities in their realm and her joining Soul Society would undoubtedly shift the balance of power, but I had no intention of weakening Nazarick. Albedo's move would be beneficial to both worlds.
Before Demiurge could speak, I turned to Ainz.
"I'll take care of her transition. You won't lose her, to begin with. This is something you asked for me to do."
I gave him a sly grin, and Ainz nodded, seemingly relieved.
He must have understood that I said the latter part as a signal for the other guardians that it was his idea so they wouldn't think badly about this.
"I trust you, Atsune. Albedo will be in good hands."
I let out a small sigh of relief. With that settled, there was no need to linger. I still had more to do back in Soul Society, and I needed to discuss something important with Urahara and Aizen. The spatial distortions we'd been detecting had been bothering me for a while, and if anyone could make sense of it, it would be them.
I excused myself from Nazarick, making sure to remind Albedo to be ready tomorrow before stepping into the Senkaimon. The travel between worlds was quick, and I found myself back in Soul Society in no time.
Urahara and Aizen were waiting for me in the research division, where they always seemed to be these days. The air was thick with the smell of incense and some other smells... Are they smoking grass? Is that why there is incense? to mask it? Whatever, it's their problem, not mine. They are big enough to know what they are doing. I glanced around the walls of the lab which were filled with books, gadgets, and a dozen unfinished experiments that looked like they might explode at any second.
"My lady, you're back!"
Urahara greeted me with his usual mischievous smile. He looked like he hadn't slept in days, but that was pretty much normal for him. Aizen stood nearby, calm and collected as always, his sharp gaze betraying the fact that he knew exactly why I was there.
"We need to talk to you about those spatial disturbances you mentioned last time."
Aizen said, getting straight to the point.
Urahara nodded and motioned for me to follow him over to a massive screen on the wall that displayed swirling patterns of energy. The readings were erratic, showing strange fluctuations in the very fabric of space.
"These disturbances aren't just random fluctuations,"
Urahara began, flipping open a fan and holding it up to his face.
"It's more like... ripples in the fabric of reality. The energy here is similar to what we've encountered before, but there's something new about it."
"We believe these distortions could be a gateway. Not just to other parts of our world, but looking at readings to an entirely different realities. It's possible they could be stabilized."
"Stabilized?"
I asked, my heart skipping a beat. Urahara chuckled at this poor attempt to hide my excitement.
"Yes, in theory. If we can manage to stabilize the energy flow, we could create a bridge between worlds."
The excitement started to bubble inside me, and I could feel Yatsuragi or if I remember it right Taereal Illitris vibrating slightly in my hand. The question as to why he even has two different names never came to me. After all, according to what I made up, he was supposed to be death itself. Not my zanpakuto, he is more artificially made into it rather than being born like this from the beginning.
The idea of discovering new worlds, new powers, and perhaps even new allies or enemies was too tempting. My zanpakuto reacted to my emotions, the blade shimmering with a faint light.
Aizen glanced at the blade, his eyes narrowing.
"It seems your zanpakuto senses the potential. Other worlds, other realms, new energies. Not surprising. It's as if it's resonating with the possibility of something beyond our understanding."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the surge of energy flowing through me and into Yatsuragi. The blade finally settled down, though I could still feel it thrumming beneath the surface. Did something happen? Will need to ask later and I'd have to keep an eye on that.
"So, what do we do next?"
"Well, first we need to stabilize the distortions, that's the tricky part. It's not like flipping a switch. We'll need time and resources to figure it out."
I nodded, my mind already racing with the possibilities. But for now, I had other things to deal with, including getting Albedo into the Gotei 13.
