Soul Land: Full Body Martial Soul

Chapter 55: 55: Combat Awareness

With one member of the Bear-Leopard Combination lying unconscious on the platform and the other knocked completely off the stage, the host promptly announced the victory of the Seven Treasure Combination.

Yang Xiong walked over to Ning Rongrong, who was still slightly out of breath from running. "Let's go. We won the match."

Ning Rongrong, who had appeared exceptionally nervous throughout the intense battle, was still somewhat shaken. However, she couldn't help but laugh at this moment. "Little Xiongzi performed wonderfully! As expected of an inner disciple of our sect. From now on, Sister Rongrong will take good care of you."

Yang Xiong couldn't help but shake his head at her attitude. "Rongrong, what do you think of Dean Flender's lesson today? Do you believe he was right about the importance of running?"

Ning Rongrong found herself momentarily speechless, though she still seemed reluctant to admit the truth. "If you had allowed me to assist you earlier, you could have defeated those two much faster. Who told you to forbid me from helping?"

Yang Xiong smiled patiently. "Not letting you assist served two purposes. First, I wanted to test my actual combat abilities - consider it a form of training. After all, I haven't experienced many duo battles before. Second, I wanted to see how you would respond to danger. Some lessons are better learned through personal experience than through Flender's explanations."

Ning Rongrong looked slightly indignant. "It's all your fault, Little Xiongzi! Using me for some experiment - otherwise, I wouldn't have been so embarrassed just now."

The two walked off the platform together. Despite her complaints, Ning Rongrong seemed quite pleased with herself. Although she hadn't assisted Yang Xiong or made any real contribution to the battle, it still counted as her first victory in a spirit arena match.

Yang Xiong couldn't help but reflect on her behavior. This young lady had been pampered since childhood and was indeed far too arrogant, even somewhat childish. However, there was truth in the saying that while teaching might not always work, experience was an excellent instructor.

Ning Rongrong's talent was genuinely impressive, and her comprehension abilities were top-tier. Given time, she would gradually come to understand the true role of a support soul master.

Up in the stands, Tang San and Dai Mubai remained somewhat stunned. They hadn't expected Yang Xiong and Ning Rongrong to defeat their opponents so effortlessly. Based on what they'd witnessed, if Ning Rongrong hadn't been present, Yang Xiong would likely have fought even more efficiently.

It was worth noting that Yang Xiong was only level twenty-six, while both opponents were level twenty-eight and were well-coordinated beast soul battle soul masters.

Dai Mubai turned to his companion. "Tang San, if it were you, could you have defeated the Bear-Leopard Combination alone?"

Dai Mubai and Tang San had already sparred against each other. In terms of pure strength, they were evenly matched. If Tang San employed his hidden weapons, he might even hold a slight advantage.

Tang San remained silent for a moment before responding. "I should also be capable of defeating those two, but it wouldn't be nearly as effortless as Yang Xiong made it appear. Most remarkably, he didn't sustain a single injury throughout the entire battle. His physical capabilities are far superior to what I had imagined - he has virtually no weaknesses in terms of speed, strength, or defense."

"Furthermore, Yang Xiong appeared remarkably calm throughout the fight. I suspect he didn't exert his full strength. Only he knows how much power he truly used. Additionally, he didn't employ any spirit skills during the entire match - not even the technique he used against Teacher Zhao previously."

"I recall during the entrance examination, Yang Xiong demonstrated teleportation abilities and even possessed a method of attacking enemies with spheres of light from his hands."

Dai Mubai nodded thoughtfully. "Perhaps Yang Xiong considered the enemies too weak to warrant his full effort."

Tang San's expression grew more serious. "I found something quite peculiar about the battle. When Yang Xiong faced the dual assault earlier, his hands actually employed different techniques to counter each enemy simultaneously. This is rather incredible."

"Moreover, Yang Xiong's reactions were uncanny. He managed to rescue Ning Rongrong at the precise moment every single time, as if he had calculated the exact timing. There were no wasted movements whatsoever."

Tang San, having lived two lifetimes and possessing Purple Demon Eyes that granted him mental power far exceeding his peers, could observe details on the platform that others might miss.

In truth, Yang Xiong's performance stemmed from his cultivation of Mind Distraction Control. He was essentially multitasking throughout the entire battle - not only observing the overall situation but also enabling his body to execute different attack techniques simultaneously. This resembled the ambidextrous fighting techniques from the martial arts world, though at a far higher level of mastery.

While Tang San's strength and observational abilities allowed him to notice surface details, Dean Flender observed even more intricacies from his position in the stands.

"This little monster is quite intriguing. It seems the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School has invested considerable effort in training him. No wonder they arranged for him and Ning Rongrong to study at our academy together."

After Yang Xiong completed his two matches, he and Ning Rongrong spent the remainder of the evening watching spirit arena battles. All members of the Shrek Seven Devils except Oscar made appearances, achieving respectable results.

Unfortunately, only Tang San and Xiao Wu participated in a duo battle, maintaining their identity as the Three-Five Combination. The others simply had no viable way to form pairs.

Dai Mubai had reached Spirit Elder level, while the others remained Spirit Grandmasters. If they teamed up, they would face Spirit Elder combinations with virtually no chance of victory.

Considering Ma Hongjun and Oscar's individual strengths, even if they formed a team against Spirit Grandmaster combinations, their chances of winning would be essentially zero.

As for Zhu Zhuqing, judging from her obvious distaste for Ma Hongjun, any partnership between them was simply impossible.

Oscar approached Yang Xiong with a hopeful expression. "Brother Xiong, as you know, I'm a food system soul master with no combat abilities whatsoever. Seeing how formidable your combat power is, would you consider participating in two-on-two spirit battles with me? I promise I won't hold you back."

"Moreover, according to the academy's regulations, if I can't obtain a Silver Spirit Badge, I won't be able to graduate."

Yang Xiong smiled warmly. "No problem at all. It's a small matter. Classmates should help each other. Why don't we go fight a match right now to test our compatibility?"

Oscar looked puzzled. "Brother Xiong, you've already fought two matches. Do you still have enough spirit power for another battle? Perhaps you should eat a couple of my sausages first? You know their recovery capabilities."

Yang Xiong waved off the concern. "There's no need. Let's go to the stage first. If I truly run low on spirit power during the match, eating sausages on the platform will work just as well."

In reality, Yang Xiong hadn't used any spirit skills in his two matches, merely expending some physical stamina. Given his exceptional recovery abilities, this was negligible.

Moreover, Yang Xiong found the prospect of fighting alongside a support soul master quite intriguing. It would help hone his combat awareness and prove far more interesting than one-on-one battles.

Among all his classmates, Yang Xiong held the most favorable opinion of Oscar. At the very least, his behavior wasn't irritating.

Soon, Yang Xiong and Oscar participated in a spirit battle as a combination. Oscar possessed considerably more combat experience than Ning Rongrong and demonstrated impressive agility. Clearly, he had participated in numerous platform matches before.

Yang Xiong and Oscar easily defeated their opponents. While Oscar was quite pleased with the victory, he also expressed a concern. "Brother Xiong, I'm not sure how many more of these Spirit Grandmaster duo battles I can participate in. I should breakthrough to level thirty soon."

Yang Xiong smiled confidently. "That's perfect timing. Once you advance, we can participate in Spirit Elder level duo competitions. I'm eager to test how much pressure fighting against two Spirit Elders can provide."

Oscar chuckled nervously. "Brother Xiong, you truly are a monster. Although we're all called little monsters, compared to you, I think you're absolutely terrifying."
