Chapter 3: Sound vs Light
Bullets rain down the dock. Screams fill the air. Men are getting shot, slashed, and beaten. Iceberg yells at his shipwrights to flee the dock. The giant door opens and men, women, and children are running for their lives. Fire is growing bigger by the second. Waves of explosions wipe out buildings. Dock 1, home of the Galley-La company, is now a warzone. Large men in black clothing and white hats appear through a smoke cloud. Their heads vibrate, charging an energy blast in their mouths before shooting at a blue blur.
"Bring more Pacifistas! More soldiers! More ships! I want him dead!" yells Thierry, who is being escorted back to his massive boat. About 30 Marine officers flank him, along with 15 Pacifistas. All of them are shooting at an invisible enemy. Marines next to the man look scared and confused. Their opponent keeps disappearing and knocking down their comrades. Streaks of blue pass near Thierry, launching dust everywhere. His men scream and shoot blindly at their target. The Celestial Dragon's ears ring from the bullets and cannons buzzing past him. Meters away from the ships, Thierry sees a blue shape standing on the deck.
"Leaving already?" Sonic says, one foot on the ship railing with a grin. "Thought you would want to enjoy the show." Thierry takes his gun with his uninjured hand and shoots three times at the hedgehog. He barely moves his body to dodge them.
"You know, this is pretty pathetic, right—" Sonic gets hit with an energy blast, disappearing in a fireball. Thierry smiles.
"Yes, finally!" he says with a laugh. "That stupid arrogant mink is finally dead."
"You know, since I've been here, people keep calling me that. I don't know what it means," Sonic says, appearing in another part of the deck.
"SHOOT HIM!" Thierry snaps. The Pacifistas shoot a barrage of energy blasts at the hedgehog.
"I don't know if I'm supposed to be offended—" he says while dodging, "by that word or not. Can someone explain to me what that means?" The more they shoot, the more the boat gets damaged. Thierry notices that. His eyes go wide.
"STOP! STOP SHOOTING, YOU IDIOTS!" It's too late — his ship is now catching fire. He can't even speak. Sonic stands on the railing, hands on his hips.
"I got good news and bad news, buddy. I like to start with the bad, so let's do that. Your ship is on fire. The good news is there's another one right there. But I'm not gonna let you get it after everything you've done. So… I hope you can swim, bubblehead." Thierry's face is twisted in such a way it's barely recognizable. Veins pop out of his red forehead.
"KILL HIM!" he says in a deeper voice. Tears of anger run down his face. Sonic taps his foot on the railing.
"They already tried that." He turns into a ball and goes through a bunch of Pacifistas, causing a chain of explosions. Marines can't even follow his movements. One moment he's destroying Pacifistas, and before they can blink, he's in front of them. Thierry watches in horror as his men get annihilated with ease. Sonic lands a couple of meters in front of him, fire and smoke behind him. He looks like a blue devil. The Celestial Dragon falls to his butt, terror in his eyes, body shaking, sweat pouring down like a waterfall. Blood stains his suit.
"Thi… this can't be happening. I… I am a Celestial Dragon. I… I am a god." Sonic stares down at him. He bends down to look directly into his eyes.
"Do you feel like one?" he says with a mocking smile. "I don't care who you are or what you are. You don't get the right to treat people like they're less than human. If you think you can just treat people like shit because of your title in this world, I'll make you wish your mama raised you better."
A silhouette moves in the fire behind Sonic. Thierry's face slowly forms a cocky smile.
"What's so funny, big guy? Found some courage left stranded in that belly of yours?"
"I'm not the one who's gonna need courage right now, you rat," he says now with a small laugh. The silhouette walks through the fire, wiping dust off his coat. He adjusts his glasses and uses his long legs to approach the two men. Sonic raises an eyebrow.
"Yo. Blue hedgehog mink," the man says, now standing right behind Sonic.
"Again with that word," he says, rolling his eyes and turning to face the tall man. "Stole that shirt from a clown, yellow guy?"
"Make my job easy and please do not move," Kizaru says, pointing a finger at Sonic and charging a light beam.
"I'll wait." Sonic taps his foot and looks at his wrist like he's wearing a watch. He looks up and the beam is centimeters from his eye. He manages to dodge — but barely. The projectile lands beside Thierry.
"Woah. That was close," Sonic says, appearing on the left side of the Admiral. "But you're gonna have to do more to defeat me." He then gets into a ball and charges at Kizaru. The Admiral quickly gets into his guard, not expecting such speed from the hedgehog. The attack goes through him.
"I missed? Won't happen again." He charges again at his enemy. He goes right through his chest. "What the hell was that? There's no way I missed. I aimed right at him."
Sonic attacks again and again, missing his assault each time. Kizaru laughs.
"Guess you don't have Haki yet."
"Ha— what?"
Kizaru kicks him through a building. A trail of smoke and destruction follows his path. Sonic stands up, wiping dust off his body.
"He's fast, but I'm definitely faster. I just need to find a way to hit him. Somehow my attacks don't work on him. Maybe I need to attack a different way."
As he's about to rush toward his enemy, light balls explode at him. With lightning reaction speed, he manages to dodge them by running all over the docks. He jumps in the air and gets into a ball. He charges energy and six electric spheres flank him. They then fly at high speed toward Kizaru, who doesn't even need to move to dodge them. Sonic uses this chance to rush full speed at the Admiral. He didn't even see the attack coming, but his Logia property saves him.
Frustrated, Sonic sends a barrage of kicks and punches that have no effect. Kizaru stands there, looking at him, bored. The hedgehog stops.
"What is this!" he shouts at the Admiral.
"Your limit," Kizaru responds, kicking him multiple times and blasting him across the ruined dock. Sonic's body is buried in rubble and smoke.
"My limit? I'LL SHOW YOU MY LIMIT!" The rubble explodes in blue energy. Sonic is surrounded by a blue aura, his eyes sparking blue. He gets into a running position. Kizaru stares, annoyed by his perseverance.
What's the point of all that if you can't even touch me? he thinks to himself.
A hole appears in his stomach. Confused, he sees that Sonic is no longer in front of him. The hole closes in light energy. He turns around and sees an enraged hedgehog halfway turned toward him, eyes staring into his soul.
"We'll meet again, yellow dude. For now, I need to focus on finding my friends. I'll also learn a way to use that Haki thing if it means defeating you. Don't get too cocky. This is not a victory for you. Let's say it's the end of round one," he says, his fun demeanor returning.
"See you later, four-eyes."
He dashes at full speed toward the ocean. Even though he said it wasn't a defeat, he feels like he has been beaten. On top of that, he's leaving the island with no map or compass to guide him. He is alone with the endless water. He smiles.
"This world is interesting. I hope the others didn't end up in a situation as bad as mine." His eyes spark and a blue aura twirls around him.
"New World, here we go."
He splits the water with his speed and disappears into the horizon.
