So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Chapter 118: Shadow Creatures

“They ran away.”

The illusion shattered, and the mist dispersed.

Stepping out from the Mirror Illusion, Vivian couldn’t help but smugly twirl the wand in her hand.

“The Mist Tower apprentices are really pathetic. They didn’t even see us before fleeing.”

Based on the magical energy, it could be determined that among the four on the other side, two were Second Tier Wizard Apprentices, and the other two were First Tier Wizard Apprentices.

If judged by apprentice level and numbers, Janna's side wouldn’t necessarily have had the upper hand in a direct confrontation.

But fortunately, Bell Moonshadow had detected the opponents' traces early.

With the illusion constructed by the Hundred-Eyed Specter and several Explosive Runes contributed by Vivian, the roles were reversed.

The stalkers turned into prey walking right into a trap.

Even though the outcome ended with the enemies escaping, given the disadvantage in numbers, their first teamwork attempt yielded quite a promising result.

“They must’ve used Teleportation Scrolls to escape. They came well-prepared—looks like they’re veterans.”

Sensing the abruptly vanished magical energy around them, Bell Moonshadow, who possessed Dark Elf blood, sniffed lightly in the heightened perception of night and quickly drew a conclusion.

“So they ended up losing both the wife and the soldiers? Not only did they get nothing, but they even wasted four Teleportation Scrolls?”

Hearing Bell Moonshadow’s deduction, Vivian couldn’t help but laugh, mercilessly mocking the four Mist Tower apprentices.

Teleportation Scrolls were expensive.

At the apprentice level, without Sealing Spells or Ritual Witchcraft for suppression, apprentices like Janna’s group would have had a hard time preventing their escape.

“Vivian, mark down the runes you lost this time. We’ll compensate you when we divide the loot later.”

“Just a few Explosive Runes, I’ve still got hundreds of them. No need to fuss—”

Seeing Janna’s eyes, Vivian abruptly swallowed her words.

“All right then. These runes were taken from my family at cost, so just reimburse me at cost when the time comes.”

“No problem.”

After quickly tidying up the battlefield and confirming there were no traces that could expose their identities, under the concealment of the Hundred-Eyed Specter’s illusion, the group vanished into the night like droplets sinking into a lake.

Because of the Explosive Runes' blast, the Mist Tower apprentices who had teleported to the other side of the forest suffered varying degrees of burns.

The worst was that shrill-voiced apprentice, whose arm was nearly blown off.

“Damn it! I can’t believe we got screwed in a place like this—since when did the White Coral brats get so cunning—”

Spitting a mouthful of blood mixed with spit, the tall apprentice, who was the leader, touched the serious burns on his face caused by the explosion’s heat.

“Luna’s injuries are severe. If we don’t treat her quickly, her arm might be done for.”

“Let’s go!”

Looking at Luna, who was lying on the ground with half her arm blown off, the tall apprentice gritted his teeth and finally followed the suggestion of another, choosing to retreat.

“What rotten luck!”

Their opponents were just three people, and among them, only one was a Second Tier Wizard Apprentice—yet they ended up in such a sorry state.

The most frustrating part was that, even now, they hadn’t even gotten a clear look at the White Coral apprentices' faces.

Unlike the miserable Mist Tower apprentices, Janna’s group, led by Bell Moonshadow, soon found a one-meter-long shadow fissure at a very secluded spot on the forest’s edge.

“How did you find this? Could it be a secret technique of the Moonshadow family?”

Seeing Bell Moonshadow’s impressive ability, Vivian, who usually looked down on her, couldn’t help but regard her with new respect.

“It’s not a secret technique. I’m just naturally extremely sensitive to shadow energy.”

At that, Janna glanced meaningfully at the Dark Elf features on Bell Moonshadow.

In addition to greatly enhanced perception in the dark, her sensitivity to shadow energy subtly demonstrated the advantage of Bell Moonshadow’s extraordinary bloodline.

“Let’s go in now—better us than someone else.”

Hearing Vivian’s suggestion, the other two nodded in agreement.

Creak—

“There’s something there!”

Just as the three were about to step through the shadow fissure, Bell Moonshadow raised a hand to stop the others.

“Is it a shadow creature?”

“I’m not sure—”

Before Bell Moonshadow could finish, over a dozen shadows shot toward them across the ground like arrows.

“Aph!”

Buzz—

Accompanied by a blinding white light, just as the shadows were about to strike, a protective Barrier enveloped the three of them.

Sss—

In that instant, as the shadows touched the milky-white Barrier of holy light attribute, a piercing corrosive sound rang out continuously outside.

“Master, this is the aura of Darksun Contamination!”

Just as Janna was about to cast a second round of counter-witchcraft, the Celestial Finch’s mental transmission froze her expression, and her casting hand also came to an involuntary halt.

“Shadow Bind—”

Unlike Janna, who had paused, Bell Moonshadow crouched and instantly formed a casting gesture.

With her right palm pressed to the ground, five shadow tendrils of various lengths shot out from the shadow beneath her palm, chasing the strange creatures hidden in the darkness.

“Got one!”

Boom—

Just as the shadow tendrils caught a lone shadow creature, the Ice Spike that Vivian had readied at the tip of her wand shot out and pierced the creature, pinning it to the ground.

“Freeze—”

White frost spread, and coldness scattered. Under Vivian’s Quick Freeze talent, the shadow creature impaled by the Ice Spike was swiftly frozen into a patch of shadow on the ground, unable to move.

“Ugh—”

Before Vivian could finish the kill, a sharp cry suddenly rang out around them.

One cry, two, three… As the cries became more frequent, about a dozen shadow creatures the size of hyenas silently surrounded Janna and the others.

“It’s the Carrion Maned Hounds—looks like we hit the jackpot—”

Looking at the roughly fifteen Carrion Maned Hounds around them, Bell Moonshadow was at a loss for words.

No matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t understand how a small shadow fissure she found randomly on the forest edge could be hiding so many shadow creatures.
