Chapter 293: Section 292 - Logistics Supplier
"Squadron Leader Chekhov is going to be pissed to death by you,"
Manager Ma wanted to persuade Chen Fei to stop, but then he thought of the other party's habit of using brutal honesty to trap people, which was truly speechless.
But then again, it was also Chekhov's fault for poking his nose into the business of the communication chief, not afraid of getting on the bad side of personnel at the 911 Aircrew Base.
"Just kidding!"
Chen Fei shrugged his shoulders.
Big Bear's nature wasn't bad; he was just a bit frivolous and shameless.
Beep beep beep!
Manager Ma's electronic device beeped abruptly, and he pulled out his cellphone, glanced over the screen, and said, "The boss is coming back at dawn tomorrow!"
The small transport aircraft pilots had a heavy workload, and soon they would take off once more to the nearest public airport to await Boss Hana's arrival.
"So soon?"
Chen Fei had thought Boss Hana would need more time searching for suitable logistics suppliers, at least not with immediate results.
No sooner had he spoken, his own phone also chimed with a message alert.
He took it out and saw it was also from Boss Hana, but the content was somewhat different.
"Four in the morning, drinks!"
Such a heartless capitalist!
Forget it, with good liquor, it's worth having a drink.
Slurp!
"From the boss?"
Being a duty manager took some smarts, and without surprise, Manager Ma probed cautiously.
"Yeah! The boss arrives at four in the morning."
Chen Fei nodded and then asked, "Drink together?"
"Me?" Manager Ma pointed at himself, "Can I?"
He had long heard that the boss and this young man were drinking buddies, always seen drinking together.
In a certain sense, such a relationship was also called "intimate favor," even though he was just a low-level employee without a managerial position, in the boss's eyes, the degree of importance might not be less than that of a high-ranking executive.
"Of course you can, savor some good wine while reporting on work,"
Chen Fei guessed Boss Hana would definitely mention what happened at the negotiation scene, so having Manager Ma report would be most appropriate.
"Good, at four in the morning, I'll definitely be there."
Manager Ma smiled.
Having drinks with the boss wasn't something that happened often, and he was very grateful to Chen Fei for giving him this opportunity.
A series of muffled thuds echoed from afar, and before long, Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming came over, rubbing his fists.
"'Rookie,' we've finished reviewing the technical manual for the F-22 and have compiled a list of consumable parts for you to check out."
Chen Fei expressed his surprise, "That was fast?"
"They're all jet engines, following the same technical standard. Aside from the engine, it's pretty much the same old same old,"
In the past few days, Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming had not spared any effort, along with his mechanics, in poring over the technical data, to the point of developing dark circles under his eyes.
Although the F-22 "Raptor" jet fighter parked in Hangar 2 was Chen Fei's private aircraft, adhering to the principle that everything on the plate is fair game, the mechanics team was responsible for every aircraft in the aircrew base, be it corporate or private. Ensuring flight safety was their primary duty.
The F-22, unlike the other two MiG-28s with abundant spares, required a larger stock of parts and materials to guarantee its flight hours, each piece indispensable. Without any one, the fourth-generation combat aircraft wouldn't fly.
"Alright!"
Chen Fei nodded and then inquired, "Chief Mechanic, do we have any alloy ingots from recycling and smelting?"
"Alloy ingots? We have!"
Xiao Ming looked at Chen Fei somewhat strangely, nodding slowly, yet not understanding why the other party would want such valueless discarded metal.
However, previously Chen Fei and the new pilot "Sauerkraut" Tempun Schneider carried a large batch of alloy ingots into Hangar 2 to assemble the F-22, leaving some leftover which was not returned to its original place.
Soon they arrived at Hangar 2, where several mechanics were using high-precision equipment to inspect the newly made batch of spare parts. If these were up to standard, then the flight hours of the nearby F-22 could be fully secured.
Chen Fei first brought over an alloy ingot and placed it on the workbench, set a parts assembly on the ingot, and activated his "Metal Shaping" skill!
The parts assembly quickly "sank into" the alloy ingot.
After comparing it with the technical data, Chen Fei nodded and remarked, "The tolerance is up to standard, the proportion of alloy components slightly different, heat treatment needs improvement, but don't worry, I'll handle that."
He reached into the alloy ingot and pulled out the metal material-adjusted parts assembly.
Before "sinking" in, the parts assembly was not up to par, but after being pulled out, it met the quality requirements.
"Why did you have to melt it into there?"
Confused by Chen Fei's actions, Xiao Ming asked since when in doubt, you ask.
"My special ability only affects metal components. For non-metal parts, it's powerless. Using the larger volume of the alloy ingot allows me to wrap around and obtain precise measurements while adjusting the alloy composition on the fly."
Chen Fei patted the alloy ingot, which had undergone an almost imperceptible change in composition. The discarded metal, seemingly without much value for recycling, was actually a little treasure trove, containing over twenty different metal elements accessible to the Metal Elemental Psychic Power.
```
"So that's how it is, wait a second!"
Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming seemed to suddenly remember something and hurriedly left.
He returned to Hangar 2 ten minutes later, driving an electric towing vehicle, on which was a neatly stacked array of boxes.
Seeing the puzzled look on Chen Fei's face, Xiao Ming patted the boxes and said, "These are all scrapped PT6A turboprop engines. Some parts are almost completely disassembled and not intact, but see if you can use your Metal Elemental Psychic Power to repair them."
He had a bold idea!
Since Metal Elemental Psychic Power could repair parts, it stood to reason that it could also be used to repair old engines that had been accumulated over time.
If successful, 911 Aircrew Base would absolutely have no issues with engine consumption, and it would also save a substantial amount of operational costs.
"For sure! Absolutely!"
Chen Fei was somewhat surprised, he hadn't expected Big Brother Xiao to have hoarded so much junk. Shouldn't this have been thrown into the smelting furnace to become Alloy Ingots long ago?
"It's all yours. Repair as much as you can."
Xiao Ming patted the boxes again.
Each box contained a discarded engine, mostly beyond the warranty range of the manufacturer and beyond repair, scrapped items that could no longer be started. However, they had been well preserved with very little oxidation and rust and were now finally awaiting unsealing.
The "Physical Evolution Database" already had the PT6A turboprop engine. Repairing them turned out to be even easier than correcting the parts made by the mechanics for the F-22. After consuming a few Alloy Ingots, Chief Mechanic Xiao received seventeen brand-new replica PT6A turboprop engines.
As a universal engine, whether in the sky, underground, or on the surface of the water, this engine was eternally useful and one could never have too many.
"Maybe we could get into the recycling business."
911 Aircrew Base, which had accumulated a good amount of Alloy Ingots for a while, was showing signs of running out, forcing Chen Fei to set his sights on the entire Xingdu Kush Mountain Area.
These Alloy Ingots, recycled and smelted, didn't offer much opportunity for reutilization at various air bases other than taking up space.
If possible, he would personally go door-to-door to collect items, and chances were that the other party might even pay him to take them off their hands; it was probably a case of mutual need, leading to mutual satisfaction.
Hearing Chen Fei's muttering, Big Brother Xiao directly said, "I'll report to the boss for you!"
"No, I'll have Squadron Leader Chekhov help. He has the contact information for the Xingdu Kush Mountain Area liaison director of the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee."
Chen Fei took an unconventional approach; considering Boss Hana's predicament in the industry, attempting to contact various air bases would most likely lead to rejection. If the liaison director of the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee stepped in, it would be more acceptable. Out of respect for the position if not the person, they would likely be given some face.
"Is he willing to help?"
Xiao Ming had just given Big Bear a good thrashing, and it was doubtful he'd be easy to speak to.
"I'll have the deputy squadron leader relay the message."
Chen Fei chuckled mischievously.
This laughter was incredibly troublesome. Big Bear would likely be infuriated to death but would still have to pinch his nose in agreement, then timidly contact the director of the Global Defense Committee. Ha ha ha, it was definitely a major accident waiting to happen.
-
At a little past three in the morning, the small transport plane that had picked up Boss Hana from the public airport finally returned to 911 Aircrew Base.
At four in the morning, the entry door to Chen Fei's cottage was punctually knocked on.
"The boss is here!"
Manager Mahnam, the duty manager, immediately sprang up to open the door.
"Here she is, have another drink!"
Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet Er Lang, who had heard there was good liquor and had also come to join the fun, was not greeted with good wine but had been so inebriated by cider that he slumped over, dazedly looking up before his large cat head heavily knocked against the sofa, turning his entire body into a drunken mush.
Even though the cider was low in alcohol content and was short in taste, similar to champagne, it could still hit hard if drunk in excess.
"Good morning, Manager Ma. Are you here too?"
Hanna Gagar, dressed in fresh, clean clothes and with her hair slightly damp, entered, greeting Chen Fei and Manager Mahnam.
But fatigue that could not be easily shaken appeared to linger on her face. Even with some rest on the way back to 911 Aircrew Base, it wasn't enough to completely dispel the deficit in her vitality and spirit.
Manager Mahnam cautiously asked, "Boss, how did the negotiations with the logistic supplier go?"
He was a smart man, knowing that Chen Fei had invited him to join such a gathering because it mattered.
"Have a drink first to relieve the fatigue; don't blame me for taking the liberty."
Chen Fei opened a bottle of fine wine, poured a small half glass, and handed it over.
"It's just what I needed!"
Hanna Gagar smiled, took the glass, and drained it in one gulp.
Then she exhaled a long breath and said, "This trip was not in vain. Thanks to the contractors from 909 Aircrew Base and Mr. Xia Ji, the CEO of Ballistic Sax Military Limited Company, who helped me get in touch with a logistic supplier, we finally nailed it down!"
The efforts of nearly half a month were not wasted and ultimately bore good results.
"What?"
The movement of Chen Fei pouring the wine froze.
What was going on? After suffering such a huge loss, the boss of 909 Aircrew Base was actually willing to help find a logistic supplier.
Could it be fate from a previous life?
Manager Mahnam, after being stunned, swiftly came back to reality and asked, "Boss, what's the situation here?"
