Chapter 944: 941: Breaking Barriers
While the Immortal Leopard's focus on Pamela and her weapon, Corey's goal was the Celestial Dewfern.
Before appearing at the top of the ridge, he had seen the Immortal Leopard created a barrier made out of Immortal Mana, the third type of mana he had ever laid his eyes on.
Immortal Mana was the most complex and most dense mana he had ever seen- aside from the mana from Infinity Crystals- and at first, he was awed by the beauty of Immortal Mana, he was also worried that he had encountered an obstruction to his plan.
With the barrier of Immortal Mana protecting the Celestial Dewfern, neither Kiefer, Selene, Willow, or even Rhea would be able to destroy it and uproot the herb while they were battling the Immortal Leopard.
And even if they found a way, the destruction of the barrier would alert the Immortal Leopard and draw it back to the Celestial Dewfern, even if it was engaged in a battle with him, Pamela, and the Invaders that were baffled about his aura, Pamela's aura, and the aura of the Immortal Leopard.
Corey knew that before his plan could work, he had to destroy the barrier no matter what, or it would be better to run away and allow the Invaders to deal with the Immortal Leopard and if they were lucky, obtain the Celestial Dewfern.
But Corey did not want this.
It was his first time seeing or even nearing an Immortal plant, and he was not going to let it go so easily.
Luckily for him, Corey was able to see through his Eyes of Omniscience that the barrier was rather crude and was poorly made.
It was powerful and extremely durable, and he knew that an average Tier 6 would never be able to destroy the barrier.
But for Corey, he had a plan and this was enough for him to find a way.
His Eyes of Truth and Judgement activated, and he instantly saw a yellow light which showed him the weaknesses in the barrier.
They were a lot, but the issue was these weaknesses were like thick concrete that was used to patch a hole in an iron wall.
Asking a man to destroy the thick concrete with his bare hands was something that many could not achieve.
It was the same thing for Corey, these weaknesses were not truly weaknesses, and although he could break it, it would take require him to use about seventy five percent (75%) of his energies to destroy the barrier in one attack.
At least, that was before he gained two new skills as a reward from the Universal System for defeating Death.
Crown of the Lifeless Sovereign
Scythe of the Final Breath
Corey had used Scythe of the Final Breath a few moments ago, and he was a little bit familiar with the skill. Through his Stars of Consciousness, he knew that there was a synergy between Scythe of the Final Breath and Crown of the Lifeless Sovereign.
And this synergy was not to be taken for granted.
The moment he appeared in front of the barrier, he instantly activated Crown of the Lifeless Sovereign, and a crown that was extremely similar to that of Death appeared on his head.
It was a crown that was made of black bones, but the only difference was that the crown was jagged, not smooth, and there were cracks around it, making it to seem like it was about to shatter.
But one would not have noticed this at all because of the changes that were occurring on Corey.
His eyes turned pure black like his other persona, Anon.
Extremely black tattoos appeared all over his body and even his face, and his hair turned to extremely black flames that seemed to burn both space and time around it.
A black fog seeped out the tattoos on Corey's skin, and Corey could feel his vitality was being rapidly drained away.
He could feel his lifespan vanishing as quickly as one second for a year of his life span, but his gaze was unfathomably calm.
'I guess I don't have much time. Or else I'll have to concoct another pill that can increase my lifespan.'
Corey's eyes flashed, and he wished he could study the death qi that was currently flowing through his body, but he could not.
He didn't have time.
He stretched out his hand, and he summoned Scythe of the Final Breath.
The scythe that appeared was somewhat similar to the last time he summoned it, but there were differences.
First of all, it was made out of metal not bones, and it had black runes all over it.
It also had a ring connecting the handle to the blade, and connected to Corey's hand was a chain.
Corey only took a glance at the appearance of the scythe because he could feel the perception of the Immortal Leopard focusing on him, and his danger senses were also warning him.
He grabbed the scythe, and he felt absolutely no resistance from it unlike the last time. Even his Undying Will seemed to be getting stronger with every second he wore the crown.
'Very tempting. A poison that kills you but also makes you stronger.'
Corey thought as he swung the scythe at a yellow spot his Eyes of Truth and Judgement could see.
CRASH!
The moment the Scythe of Final Breath touched the weak spot of the barrier, the death qi eroded it and the barrier became a lot weaker.
The death qi was like the end of all things, and even Immortal Mana was not even Immortal before it.
It was like a mortal facing a god, and this made it a lot easier for Corey to destroy the barrier.
The moment he saw that the barrier was destroyed, he was taken back for a moment at how easy it was, but he controlled his strength and stopped the scythe or even its aura from touching the Celestial Dewfern.
Who knew what damage the scythe and death qi would cause to a mere plant?
'That was fast.'
It was then he heard the roar of the Immortal Leopard, and his instincts screamed at him.
"YOU DARE!"
Without even caring about Pamela's Destroyer, the Immortal Leopard suddenly vanished and appeared in front of Corey who was holding the Celestial Dewfern in his hands, and he swung his claws at Corey in anger.
