Chapter 942: 939: Race
"Oh, and one more thing."
Corey suddenly opened his right palm, and three talismans made out of silver appeared in his hand.
"This is a teleportation talisman. Pour your mana into it when you see that the battle is happening far away from the Celestial Dewfern. I'll place another one close to the Celestial Dewfern so that you won't waste anytime in approaching the herb."
Corey handed out the silver talismans to Kiefer, Selene, and Willow. They all observed the talisman, and Willow asked a question that had been bothering her.
"But what about the shockwaves and aftermath of the battle? I don't know how strong an Immortal is, but I'm fairly certain the destruction its attacks would cause would be immense and indescribable."
Corey's lips parted slightly, but before he could speak, Pamela spoke.
"I'm sure the Immortal Beast would not unleash an attack that can destroy the entire ridge since it's clearly guarding the Celestial Dewfern."
She looked at Corey.
"I've heard and read that Immortal Beasts are different from Mythic and Astral Beasts. Their intelligence rises, they gain the ability to speak, and some of them even gain the ability to turn into a humanoid form."
The expressions of Kiefer, Selene, and Willow changed when they heard Pamela's words. They had no knowledge of Immortal Beasts, and it was surprising to them that Immortal Beasts could not only talk, but transform into a humanoid shape.
It was surprising to them.
"So you guys should be safe since the Immortal Beast will clearly not want to destroy the Celestial Dewfern which is very useful for it, and the Invaders would also not want to destroy such a priceless treasure. Who knows, both parties might even take the battle somewhere else."
Corey nodded slightly. "Also..." He paused, and then he looked down slightly. "Rhea."
Caw!
The sound of a bird cry echoed in their ears, and Rhea appeared in front of Corey while flapping her wings.
"Protect them."
Rhea turned and looked at Kiefer and the others for a few seconds before flying to Kiefer's shoulder.
"She'll protect you in case anything that is out of your league appears." Corey said, and Selene and Willow looked at Rhea with a skeptical look.
Meanwhile, Kiefer was gently rubbing Rhea's head with a light smile.
"Are you sure she can protect us? She doesn't look strong." Selene asked while looking at Rhea with a skeptical look.
Corey smiled, and he nodded. "Yes. She's stronger than the three of you combined."
Corey did not blame Selene for her words since he sort of expected it. Rhea looked just like an ordinary raven with nothing special about her, and her aura was hidden and well controlled so that individuals without exceptional perception would not notice anything odd about her.
'But it seems like Rhea took offense to her words.'
A light chuckle escaped Corey's lips as he looked at Rhea who viciously pecked Selene's hand as she tried to poke her.
"That's your pet right?"
Pamela's voice drifted into his ears, and he nodded.
"What is she? I can sense her aura, but it feels and dangerous. It's like... she's not meant for this place... this universe."
Corey glanced at her, and then he shifted his gaze to Kiefer, Selene, and Willow who had stopped what they were doing and were looking at him.
They too were curious, and he could not help but sigh.
"All you need to know is that she's my friend."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away.
"Let's go. We need to get there before those other guys."
Pamela glanced at Rhea one more time before she vanished and reappeared beside Corey.
She had used a movement technique that was too fast for the eyes of Kiefer, Selene, and Willow to follow.
"Hey."
Pamela called out, and Corey looked at her from the corner of his eyes.
"What if the Immortal Beast does not follow us? What then? Wouldn't your plan backfire on us and we'll be at the receiving end of the Immortal Beast and the Invaders? I'm sure they won't choose to help us but would choose to watch back and take the Celestial Dewfern while we're fighting."
Corey did not bother to look at her this time around, and he just kept on walking. Though he increased his pace.
"Don't worry about that. The Immortal Beast will definitely chase us."
Pamela raised her brows. "How are you so sure?"
"I said trust me."
Pamela frowned, and then she scoffed. "There's no moment where you're not insufferable."
Corey did not reply her statement. Instead, black lightning began flashing on his legs.
Pamela looked at it with intrigue, and then a slight grin appeared on her lips.
"Cute lightning. But it's nothing compared to mine. Do you want to compare?" Her eyes flashed with pure white lightning.
Corey's expression did not change in the slightest despite her taunting words. He merely looked at her with an indifferent expression and said.
"Make sure to keep up."
Without waiting for a response, he executed Lightning Step of the Lightning Movement Art.
Pamela grinned, and her eyes flashed with a competitive and determined light.
"Sure thing, insufferable man."
Her entire body flashed with lightning, and her hair turned longer and became pure white as lightning bolts streaked across it like the fury of a fallen god of thunder.
She took a step forward, and then she vanished.
The ground where she vanished from melted and sparks of pure white lightning could still be seen.
A second later, a large crack appeared on the ground along with remnant streaks of pure white lightning flashing around the crack.
In the blink of a Tier 6's eye, Pamela appeared beside Corey and smiled.
"You're too slow."
Corey looked at her, and then he pointed two fingers at her.
A bolt of black lightning shot out from his fingers and it shattered the skull of an unfortunate Tier 5 goat like beast.
