Chapter 481: 480: Did I Offend...?
The moment Corey used Lightning Step, the five crimson lightning bolts above struck where Corey stood in the blink of an eye.
Five loud explosive sounds resounded across Aethara's Imperium, and a large crater containing magma could be seen where the five crimson lightning bolts struck.
The amount of destruction these five crimson lightning bolts caused was more than the saber slash that Aethara unleashed which sundered the earth in two and almost killed Corey despite teleporting away.
After escaping the five crimson lightning bolts, Corey continued running while executing Lightning Step. Crimson lightning bolts fell upon him with every eight steps he took, and this was equivalent to a single second.
Corey swerved, dodged, anticipated, and calculated every single lightning strike, and because of his Eyes of Omniscience which granted him a bird's eye view of his surroundings, his Ears of Omniscience which allowed him to hear even the smallest of sounds, his Paragon Senses, instincts and reflexes, and most especially, his stars of consciousness which allowed him to perform so many tasks at once, he was able to avoid each lightning strike even with Selene on his back.
Although it seemed like everything was going well for Corey as long as he maintained Lightning Step, that was not so.
If one removed the black boots he had which were made from Nina, one would see the burns and injuries he had on his legs.
Despite having Dream Healing, an increase to his constitution because of the Earth Infinity Crystal, and so many other abilities, Lightning Step was not a skill Corey could use anytime he wanted.
Not only did Lightning Step produce streaks of electricity around his feet and legs, but it also produced streaks of electricity inside his legs and feet.
Lightning Step was not a skill that even Tier 4s could causally use. The lightning it produced both inside and outside one's legs and feet could cause one to become a cripple or even lose their legs completely.
The only reason why Corey was still able to use Lightning Step was because his constitution had increased by a large amount after fusing with the Earth Infinity Crystal, he was a Demi-Paragon with the blood essence of the Defying Paragon in him, and he was also simultaneously using Dream Healing with Lightning Step.
However, to Corey's slight frustration, he found out that his regeneration of dream energy could not keep up with his consumption.
However, it was not surprising.
He was not healing his legs, he was also healing the injury on his body, and Selene's injuries.
'And I can't teleport.' Corey thought with a tinge of frustration in his eyes.
One of the things Corey realized, was that even with his skill proficiency and high affinity with the space element, he could not teleport.
As long as he was in Aethara's Imperium, he could not teleport.
Corey looked around, and then he glanced at the titanic Tree of Rot before shifting his gaze toward Aethara who had been silently, calmly, and indifferently watching all that he did.
Only a minute had gone by, and although it might seem short, Corey had worked himself so hard, both mentally and physically.
He could not remember the last time he was this focused, and though a part of him loved his current condition and focus because he could feel his mind, body, and some of his skills improving at a 'rapid' pace, he knew he could not last long if he continued like this.
'Five minutes… I can only last five minutes if I keep this up… Maybe ten if I don't use some skills and try to reduce my mana consumption.'
Corey thought with a slight furrow of his brows, and a second later, he exhaled softly.
'Let's go then… We wing it once again.'
A cold light flashed in his eyes, and then he took a sharp turn to his right, dodging both a lightning strike and a tree root.
Just as Corey dodged both attacks, his mind shook and his eyes widened slightly.
'Wait!... Tree root?... Not a vine?!'
Corey's eyes snapped toward the Tree of Rot, and his pupils shrunk to a needle point when he saw the countless eyes on the Tree of Rot stare at him with a dark crimson glow in their eyes of maliciousness and rage.
When he looked at the eyes on the Tree of Rot, he felt something subtle impact his mind and body, and for a fraction of a second, a dazed light flashed in his eyes before it was quickly dispelled.
Corey quickly looked at his right hand, and when he saw that his arm was becoming rotten like that of an old corpse, his eyes flashed with a cold light, and a second later, an azure, silver, and violet covered his entire arm.
A blackish-green smoke came out of his arm, and the sheer size of the smoke shocked Corey. It was enough to cover Corey's figure, but Corey made sure to burn the smoke.
'It was able to make a part of my body rot with just a glance?... But how's that possible?... I didn't see anything even with my Eyes of Omniscience… I only sensed it… How can I block it? Can I evade it?... Also, what's with the amount of blackish-green smoke?... Why do I always find myself in this sort of predicament?'
So many questions, thoughts, guesses, and hypotheses appeared in Corey's mind as he burnt off the rot in his right arm with Dreamfire which slowly returned his arm to normal.
All of this occurred with Corey still executing Lightning Step toward Aethara and the Tree of Rot.
Corey shifted his gaze from his arm which was now mostly healed, and then he looked at the Tree of Rot.
The instant he did, he saw the countless eyes on the Tree of Rot close their eyes, and then a drop of dark crimson liquid fell from the eyes.
Although it was just a single liquid, with there been countless eyes, it was like the Tree of Rot was raining dark crimson blood.
Corey shifted his gaze from the eyes to where the dark crimson blood landed. When he did, his eyes widened in sheer disbelief, he then froze, and then he stopped moving by sliding with his right leg stretched outward.
A deep scar could be seen on the ground from the spot where Corey started sliding, but Corey did not care about this in the slightest.
Instead, what he cared about were the countless abominations and monsters that appeared from each dark crimson blood that fell.
'I don't get… Did I offend somebody important or the Goddess of Luck in my past life?'
