Siblings with No Life Get Summoned to Another World as Detectives

Chapter 2: 2. Teleportation

Kai and Mei—brother and sister—now found themselves in a completely different place.

Huddled together, they were breathing fast, bracing for the worst—to die... or worse, to be outside!

"Welcome!" said an unfamiliar voice.

They slowly lifted their heads. And luckily... the worst possible thing wasn't true. They weren't outside. They were inside. Not at home, but at least within walls. They felt relieved.

"Ahem, ahem," a tall figure in black clothing cleared his throat. It was an old man with gray hair, and next to him sat a slightly younger man with long black hair, both looking very important in their expensive attire.

The man at the table leaned forward slightly, wearing a serious look and a faint smile.

"I'd like to introduce myself," he said. "My name is Ceal Vorenhart, but call me Voren—friends do."

Kai stared at him, trying to figure out how real this man was and what on earth was going on. Nothing made sense to him.

Meanwhile, Mei scanned the room with her eyes, then whispered:

"We're... in the White House."

Something clicked in Kai's mind. He stood up with a wide, confident smile.

"My name is Kai, Mr. President," he said before pointing at his sister, "this is Mei, my dear sister."

"You've figured that much out already, huh?" Vorenhart said, with a smile balancing between admiration and irony. "I expected nothing less from you, Mei Kagami… or, as they've come to call you—The Genius Empress. Seven-time consecutive champion of painting contests, math, physics, chemistry champ... and the list goes on."

Then he turned to Kai.

"And of course, you, Kai Kagami—the boy who knows too much about the human psyche... the kind of mind that doesn't just see people, but dissects them, piece by piece, until nothing is left but their truest, rawest selves. The one who managed to become a billionaire… for a mon—"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let's not go that far," Kai interrupted, raising his hand lightly. "That was a long time ago."

"A long time ago, you say? Ah, yes… I forgot. That was before your parents aban—"

Silence.

Voren's face tightened when he saw their eyes drop to the floor.

Mei's eyes trembled.

"It hurts," she whispered.

The word was quiet but sharp as a knife.

"I'm sorry... my bad! I didn't mean to remind you," Vorenhart hurried to fix his mistake.

Kai looked up, his gaze clear but heavy, full of pain he didn't want to talk about.

"Why are we here?" he asked, his voice cold. The topic had changed, but the wound remained.

The older man in black, who until then had stood silently like a shadow, finally spoke,

"You see... our task is to guard a very special book. A diary. Inside it are… secrets that should never exist."

He paused, as if searching for the right words.

"And... the thing is, we have—"

"You lost it," Mei cut him off, cold and precise.

Kai looked at his sister, then burst out laughing.

"Of course you did! And so, logically, you decided to pull us out of our world to solve your problem, right? Am I right?"

The old man just nodded quietly.

"That's right! We found you and after testing, we decided to teleport you here. We would like your help."

Mei leaned toward Kai and whispered,

"Payment?"

Kai returned her look with understanding.

"Good question, my dear sister."

Then he turned to the old man.

"What do we get in return?"

The old man didn't hesitate. His answer was quiet but unwavering:

"A way back home."

Silence.

Mei and Kai burst out laughing.

"Good joke," Mei grinned.

"Heh… my sister here is a top problem solver. We could leave whenever we want." Kai added, pointing at Mei with one hand while clutching his stomach with the other to stop laughing.

The old man tilted his head slightly, a note of mockery in his voice,

"Huh? Is that so?"

"Enough!" Vorenhart cut in,

"Here's the deal: if you solve the case, I'll grant you each one wish. Whatever you want!"

"Huh? We're not kids!" Kai shouted, but then paused to think.

He put his hand on his chin, an idea struck him.

"Hm... Can I... wish for a harem?" he glanced at the president, who was shuffling papers.

"Of course!" the president nodded, as if he already knew what Kai would ask.

Mei just coldly glanced at her brother, and he was too scared to meet her eyes, so he started staring at the wall instead.

"Sounds like a scam," Mei said quietly, standing behind her brother.

"I assure you, this is a 100% real offer."

"Prove it!" she snapped back, keeping the tension alive.

The old man stepped in,

"Sir, they still don't know."

The president stared at the old man, then began,

"Well, you see, in this worl—"

"Wait, wait, wait!" Kai cut him off.

"Who said I wanted to hear the rest? I ACCEPT!"

Mei looked him straight in the eyes. Seeing not even a flicker of hesitation, she nodded and declared:

"I ACCEPT!"—trusting that her brother made the right call.

President Vorenhart blinked a few times, as if he couldn't believe what he'd just heard, but then nodded.

The old man just growled softly under his breath.

"I'll escort you to your room," said the president.

"Wait. I need five minutes with my sister. Excuse us."

The siblings stepped out of the room to talk in private just outside the door.

"What did you figure out?" Kai asked.

"First..." she raised her index finger,

"This isn't our world anymore. Somehow, we got teleported here."

"Second..." the middle finger joined the first,

"They want to USE us to find their diary."

"Third..." ring finger up next,

"We can't go back without their help."

"Fourth..." she raised her pinky,

"Some kind of magic exists here—if they can grant wishes, it has to be real."

"Fifth..." finally, the thumb.

"They were most likely spying on us during our lives on Earth."

Mei listed everything she'd gathered so far.

"Nice work," Kai praised her, opening the door again.

"Shall we?" he asked Vorenhart.

———————————————————

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! came the sound at the door. No one answered.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! again. Still no answer.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! BAM! The brother and sister tumbled off the bed.

The door swung open wide, and in stepped a young maid with shoulder-length pink hair. Her frilly black-and-white maid outfit is just a little too tight—cinched at the waist, pushing her modest chest up just enough to make her constantly fidget with her collar. The skirt flares out cutely, but it's dangerously short, revealing thigh-high stockings that cling to her soft legs and leave a teasing strip of bare skin between the garters and lacey hem.

Her slender neck, pale and elegant, draws the eye like an invitation—smooth as porcelain and subtly flushed whenever she's flustered. A delicate black ribbon choker wraps around it snugly, emphasizing the vulnerable curve of her throat, where a faint pulse dances just beneath the surface. Tiny beads of sweat sometimes glisten there when she's nervous, tracing a shy line down toward her collarbone… and every time she tilts her head or gasps softly, that exposed neckline becomes a dangerous distraction—fragile, kissable, and oh-so-tempting~

"Are you okay?!" she asked in a panic, rushing straight to Mei to help her up.

Kai was slowly lifting himself off the floor, still dazed. In that moment, the maid bent down to assist his sister Mei—completely unaware of where Kai was… right behind her.

As she leaned forward, her skirt rose ever so slightly, and Kai suddenly found himself in an awkwardly perfect position—her underwear was literally just a few centimeters from his face.

He froze like a statue. Shut his eyes tight and started thinking:

"God... don't look there... don't look there… DON'T LOOK TH—"

But then...

"Wait. I mean… if I just 'accidentally' open my eyes a little and take a quick, totally 'accidental' glance… technically, it's not my fault, right?"

Just then, as one eye peeked halfway open

SMACK!

Something soft… yet absolutely lethal, hit him straight in the face.

Kai blinked, stunned, only to see Mei standing above him with a devilish smile and a pillow in her hand.

"Oops," she whispered cryptically. "Slipped."

The maid blinked, gave an awkward little smile, and began tidying up the beds.

"Ow!" Kai whimpered and slumped onto the floor.

He sighed, then finally asked,

"Where's the library?"

Maid blinked again, a bit confused by the question.

"Up the stairs and to the left."

Kai turned, ready to head out immediately, but as he looked up...

Mei was already gone.

"Huh?!" he gasped.

Kai rushed out of the room and began climbing the stairs, somehow sensing his sister was already there.

When he reached the door to the library, he pushed it open with a gentle creak... and of course, Mei was already inside. Sitting. With a book in her hands. Completely focused.

"How did you... know the way?!" he asked, stunned.

Mei looked up from her book, cold as ice.

"I memorized the building's layout."

She closed the book with a soft thump and stared at him like he'd just asked the most obvious question in the world.

Kai chuckled. "Of course you did... Found anything smart yet?"

"Not yet," she whispered softly.

"Alright," he said with a small laugh. He sank into a chair, grabbed a book, and started reading.

———————————————————

They read for about half an hour, until Kai finally broke the silence.

"So, what have you got so far?"

"Well... this seems like some kind of fantasy world! It's not just humans here. There are elves, elementals, bloodbeasts, neko, and even a few kinds of demons," Mei explained, a spark in her eyes.

"I learned a bit of this world's history… nothing too deep, honestly," Kai replied, and the two of them stood up to stretch.

That same pink-haired maid from earlier quietly entered the library, holding something in her arms.

"Sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself earlier… I'm Lily. It's nice to meet you!" she said cheerfully, placing something on the table.

"Here are your uniforms!" she added with a bright smile.

"It's nice to meet y—" Kai began with his eyes closed, but then paused, opened them, and looked up.

"...Uniforms?"

"Yes, your school uniforms!" Lily confirmed, still smiling.

"...For school?" Mei echoed, clearly confused and wanting another confirmation.

"Yep! But it is more like academy," Lily replied with a smile.

.

.

.

"HUH???" both of them gasped in unison.

"Who said we're going to school?!" Kai yelled, borderline desperate.

"N-No… s-school…" Mei mumbled in the background like a dying ghost.

"W-Well… Vorenhart told me that… that you have to go to school… to, um, s-solve… the c-case…" Lily stammered, her voice shrinking with every word as she clutched the uniforms tighter to her chest.

"I can barely talk to you! How the hell am I supposed to talk to a whole school full of strangers?!" Kai cried out, throwing his arms up.

"Those are terrifying things for introverts," Mei added coldly, like a final judgment.

Kai nodded firmly with eyes closed, completely agreeing with his sister like she was a prophet of truth.

"B-But… Vorenhart said that if you go to school, you'll receive all the tools you need to… u-uh, solve the case…" Lily tried again, her words tripping over themselves.

Mei suddenly shifted tone completely.

"Sketchbook and pencil."

"That's it?" Lily blinked, visibly confused.

"I mean, I don't need anything, but if I can get yo—"

SMACK! Mei slammed a book into Kai's arm without warning.

"Ow!" Kai groaned as he grabbed his uniform.

"Let's just get this over with!"

He marched into the bathroom, holding the neatly folded clothes in his arms. The door shut behind him with a soft click.

"If this thing has a tie, I'm not coming back..." he shouted through the door to his sister.

Inside, the room was warm, lined with smooth white tiles that echoed every breath he took. He unzipped his old hoodie, looked down at the uniform… and sighed.

A black shirt with silver buttons, a vest trimmed with gold, and a long coat bearing the academy's emblem—a silver phoenix.

"At least there's no tie..." he muttered.

He spent a few minutes getting dressed.

The dark uniform actually fit him surprisingly well—it emphasized his shoulders, and the coat flowed behind him with every step.

He looked… smart. Mysterious.

But of course...

"What the hell is this? How do you even fasten this thing…" he grumbled while fumbling with the brooch.

He looked like the cool fantasy school guy—

but make it antisocial.

———————————————————

Meanwhile, Mei stayed in the room.

Her uniform was folded neatly on the bed. She touched the fabric with her fingers—soft, but firm.

"This is more costume than clothing..." she murmured to herself.

She slowly pulled on the dark blue skirt that stopped just above the knees, along with the tall socks that came with the set.

On top, she wore a white blouse with golden studs and a dark vest, finishing it off with a short cloak fastened by the academy's brooch.

When she stepped in front of the mirror—

she paused.

She looked like some aristocratic detective from another world. Elegant and serious.

But, of course, they weren't siblings for nothing...

She sat on the edge of the bed and started swinging her legs like a child.

———————————————————

They both stepped into the hallway.

"You look like you're headed to a funeral, not to solve a case," Mei threw at him, smirking.

"And you look like a lost princess. Don't tell me you're related to Arisu?" he shot back.

They laughed at each other.

After all, they were just a brother and sister trying to survive their first day of school… in a parallel world.

"Alright, shall we go?" Kai asked.

Mei grabbed her sketchbook and pencil—both brand new and shining.

"Are you sure I can't bring the maid with me?" Kai asked playfully, but immediately looked away as Mei raised her pencil like a weapon, ready to stab.
