Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 228: Chapter 229: The Capture-Makoto Association

In the following days, Makoto stayed at home resting, just as he had previously told Isane.

It wasn't that Makoto was being lazy or shirking his duties, nor was it because his wounds hadn't fully healed. Rather, after losing such a significant amount of blood at once, even with his extraordinary regenerative abilities, he couldn't shake off the psychological illusion of feeling weak and drained.

Thus, Makoto simply took the opportunity to rest for a few days. Whenever he had spare time, he would delve into the problem concerning Hisana's spiritual body.

In truth, after the conclusion of the 'Zanpakuto Rebellion Incident,' Makoto hadn't ceased his related research. Despite verifying some theories through the spiritual body constructed by Senbonzakura, there were still numerous obstacles when it came to practical application.

Foremost among them was the unique method by which the materialized spiritual body of the Zanpakuto was constructed, which centered around the consciousness of the zanpakuto spirit itself. Applying this to an ordinary soul would require supplementing the soul's inherent flaws, increasing the density of spiritual particles in the body, and optimizing its spiritual structure.

In doing so, the soul could withstand greater fluctuations in spiritual pressure, potentially enhancing its spiritual aptitude. In other words, upon deeper exploration, this appeared to be another evolutionary path for a Shinigami!

If Aizen's approach to evolution involved altering the original form of a Shinigami's spirit by integrating part of a Hollow's power, then Makoto realized that his own approach leaned more towards the ultimate enhancement of spiritual body quality.

Upon realizing this, Makoto became more cautious and discreet with his research, shifting from open studies to working in secret. For safety, he went as far as creating a hidden underground lab beneath the Vice-captain's residence allocated to him by the Fourth Division.

Currently, Yamada Rinka lived alone in Makoto's former quarters. Given her relatively average strength, there was little risk of her detecting the underground space. Moreover, since few Shinigami would intrude on the living quarters of a widow like Rinka, and with Urozakuro constantly monitoring the movements within Seireitei, Makoto felt relatively assured about the lab's safety.

As for the equipment and tools required for his research, they posed no difficulty for Makoto. With Unohana gradually handing over full authority to him, he effectively managed all the affairs of the Fourth Division. By tweaking a few records here and there, he could easily requisition any medical equipment he needed for his experiments.

Currently, the remaining issue Makoto struggled to resolve was determining what core could stabilize Hisana's reconstructed spiritual body. After various trials, he found that the most stable method was using the spirit of his own Zanpakuto as the core.

After all, in terms of compatibility, a Zanpakuto spirit was born from the soul of its wielder and shared a bond where damage to one would affect the other. However, this solution raised a fundamental problem—how could Hisana, who didn't possess any spiritual power, possibly awaken a Zanpakuto of her own?

This conundrum formed a deadlock, seemingly blocking the path for ordinary souls to gain spiritual power.

Makoto was suddenly reminded of an important question: the unique power of a Shinigami was condensed, separated, and wielded through their Zanpakuto. But in ancient times, before Zanpakuto even existed, could it be that a Shinigami's power was harnessed in its purest form, directly by their own being?

Could it be that the creation of Zanpakuto, aside from helping Shinigami better control their power, was also a form of limitation imposed on them?

However, Makoto had no way of knowing the answer to such a distant mystery. Even Soya Azashiro, who had fully integrated himself into Seireitei, was equally unaware.

"Looks like it won't be that simple after all…"

Exhausted from his research, Makoto stretched his sore back as he emerged from the hidden exit of his residence, feeling slightly light-headed.

Just as he turned the corner outside, he encountered a familiar figure.

"Huh? Makoto-kun, what are you doing here?"

Yamada Hanataro, who had a somewhat timid demeanor, widened his eyes in confusion and surprise upon seeing Makoto. His gaze lingered particularly on Makoto's weak, hunched posture, leading to some strange assumptions.

"Hanataro?"

Makoto's expression immediately changed, shifting to his usual gentle and composed demeanor. Straightening his back, he appeared as if nothing had happened.

Hanataro blinked in disbelief, wondering if his earlier impression had been an illusion.

"Hanataro, hmm? What brings you here?" Makoto asked, smoothly shifting the conversation.

Flustered, Hanataro quickly replied, "I came to visit my sister-in-law."

"I see…"

Makoto nodded and casually began asking Hanataro about the training progress of the new recruits. Under Makoto's detailed questioning, the nervous Hanataro soon forgot his initial doubts, focusing entirely on answering each query.

At the end of their conversation, with a look of encouragement, Makoto patted Hanataro on the shoulder.

"Good job, Hanataro. Truly, having you transfer from Shin'o Academy to the Fourth Division has been a great help."

Hanataro, feeling a surge of warmth in his chest, replied with emotion, "N-No, it's all thanks to your guidance, Makoto-kun. I couldn't have done it without your trust!"

"No, it's your own hard work. Keep it up and continue making contributions!" Makoto said with a smile.

After all, if Hanataro didn't work hard, how could Makoto remain so free to conduct his private research and enjoy tea and ikebana with Captain Unohana?

With renewed determination, Hanataro declared, "Yes, Makoto-kun! I'll do my best, and I'll always support you, even in the 'Capture-Makoto Association'!"

"Wait a second…"

Makoto, who was about to leave, suddenly froze. His expression turned to one of shock.

"What… association?"

"Huh? You don't know, Makoto-kun? The 'Capture-Makoto Association,'" Hanataro replied, surprised.

'The Special Communication Association for Capturing Doctor Senju', Recently, the president has been planning to expand it into a formal organization, with Captain Unohana even suggesting a name change…"

???

Makoto blinked.

Under Unohana-sensei's… suggestion???
