Chapter 4: SJIN: Chapter 4
---
The next morning, Mizuno's team decided to set out.
"Aren't you going to wait and attend the Second Hokage's funeral?" Uchiha Kagami asked, looking at the crowd gathering.
Today was the day of the Second Hokage's funeral. Mizuno noticed a hint of sadness on Akimichi Chōza's face, indicating he intended to attend.
"No," Mizuno said. "Time is of the essence. The sooner we do this, the better. Delay could lead to changes."
Shimura Danzo suddenly shouted at the village, "Second Hokage, I'm leaving! I... I will protect Konoha well!"
Then, Danzo fell to his knees and began to sob.
Huh?
What's going on?
Mizuno looked at the kneeling Danzo, feeling a bit surprised.
He had realized yesterday that Danzo was a step behind Hiruzen, Uchiha Kagami, and the others in terms of awareness. And now, he seemed so carefree. He didn't look like a scheming person at all.
Was Danzo a straightforward boy in his youth?
Thinking of Danzo's later dark and devious ways in Shippuden, Mizuno couldn't help but sigh... What have you been through all these years, brother?
Seeing his emotional display, Chōza also had tears in his eyes. Including Hatake Sakumo, the few of them paused and gazed at Konoha for a moment, paying their final respects to the Second Hokage.
Mizuno noticed that Konoha was very lively today, with groups of people returning from outside the village.
"Who are they?" Mizuno asked.
Uchiha Kagami glanced over. "Oh, they're the Senju branch family."
Branch family?
"Does the Senju clan have a main family and a branch family?"
Mizuno was very surprised. In the original story, the Senju clan mysteriously perished, with no information at all.
"You don't even know that?" Uchiha Kagami scratched his head. "It's not a main family or a branch family. It's just some Senju clan members who were sent out to marry into other families and are now returning. After all, Tobirama-sama was the Hokage of the Senju clan."
Married into other families? Mizuno was even more surprised.
"Let's talk as we go." Hatake Sakumo, who was packing his ninja tools, said, and they instantly disappeared from their spot.
With everyone's explanations, Mizuno finally understood the so-called Senju branch family.
It was actually very simple: the Senju clan loved to intermarry.
The Senju clan's tradition of intermarriage started with the First Hokage. Hashirama's wife was from the Uzumaki clan.
However, unlike Hashirama, other clan members might not be able to intermarry into major clans. Therefore, the Senju bloodline was diluted to a certain extent.
"Unlike the Uchiha clan's narrow family ideology, Hashirama-sama had a broad vision. The more the Senju clan spread out, the stronger Konoha's overall strength would be," Uchiha Kagami said.
Mizuno finally understood.
"Hashirama-sama didn't care much about bloodlines. His own son married into a commoner family. Even Hashirama-sama's own granddaughter and grandson don't have the Senju surname," Hatake Sakumo said.
As he said this, a hint of admiration appeared on Hatake Sakumo's face.
Mizuno was slightly surprised after hearing this. "You mean Tsunade-hime and Nawaki?"
"Yes," Uchiha Kagami replied.
Mizuno thought carefully. Indeed, in both the original story and the setting books, Tsunade's full name was always Tsunade-hime, and the same was true for Nawaki. They never had the Senju surname.
[ShixT9: Idk if this is actually true]
"There's actually something like this," Mizuno muttered. "Time travel really broadens your horizons..."
"So, Hashirama-sama's own son is actually not in the Senju clan anymore."
"Yeah, he came back today. What was his name again..." Uchiha Kagami furrowed his brow and thought for a while. "Right, his name is Senju Mineshi. From memory, he didn't get along well with the Second Hokage."
[ShixT9: Another name not mentioned in anime]
...
...
Konoha Ninja Village.
Senju Mineshi had just left the Second Hokage's funeral.
However, unlike what he expected, there was no sadness on his face, but rather a hint of excitement.
Seeing Senju Tobirama's body with his own eyes filled his vengeful gaze with a hint of pleasure.
He couldn't stay too long. He was afraid that if he stayed longer, he would burst out laughing.
He had only just left when someone patted him on the shoulder.
Senju Mineshi quickly followed. The mysterious black figure led him through twists and turns to a secluded corner.
"The information is all here," the figure said. "Sarutobi's team is planning to go to the Daimyo."
Senju Mineshi took the few cards from the figure's hand.
"The Uchiha guy, the Shimura guy, and the Akimichi clan... this team is really to my liking."
A hint of malice flashed in Senju Mineshi's eyes.
"Your mission is to prevent them from negotiating with the Daimyo. You can't let the Daimyo support Sarutobi's ascension to the Third Hokage."
Senju Mineshi looked at the figure. "It didn't say anything about not killing, did it?"
The black figure remained silent for a moment. "If necessary, you can eliminate them all."
"Hahahahahaha!" Senju Mineshi suddenly couldn't hold back. "After all these years, I finally got this opportunity!"
"You can't stay in Konoha for too long. They've already set out. You need to be fast."
Senju Mineshi turned around. "Don't worry, I'm not alone. My men have already been deployed along the way."
...
...
Mizuno's team arrived at the Daimyo's territory much later than expected.
The main reason was... Mizuno couldn't keep up with these people's speed.
Although Mizuno didn't look like a teenager at all, when it came to speed, he was far behind these elite Jonin who had experienced countless battles.
Mizuno gasped for breath. There was no way around it; he was just too lazy to train.
He had been in this world for a long time, and the system's activation conditions were too harsh. He hadn't grown up yet, but he was already following these semi-Kage level masters on missions. It was really hard to keep up.
They had planned to arrive in the morning, but it was already evening, and they still had a distance to go.
"Mizuno, can you hold on?" Shimura Danzo asked with a straightforward face.
Mizuno nodded. Although he was a bit tired, he could still hold on.
However, Hatake Sakumo spoke up at this time. "I suggest we stay overnight."
"Wait, wait, wait. How is that possible? Didn't we say time is of the essence?" Danzo said.
Uchiha Kagami, however, frowned slightly. "I agree with the silver-haired one."
Danzo turned around. "What's wrong, Kagami? Can't you hold on anymore?"
Uchiha Kagami shook his head. "It's about to get dark. Visiting at night will arouse suspicion. It's neither formal nor sincere. And if we travel at night, we'll be too passive if we're ambushed. We've been traveling for a long time. It's better to rest well tonight and recover our energy."
"I agree." Akimichi Chōza was quickly persuaded.
Danzo sighed. "Alright, I agree."
The group began to prepare for a night's stay in the forest.
"Mizuno, you have a good eye for picking this young man," Uchiha Kagami said, looking at Hatake Sakumo. "He's able to remain so calm on his first mission with high-ranking officials, and he dares to offer dissenting opinions. I admire him."
Shimura Danzo scoffed.
Hatake Sakumo smiled slightly. He was a junior and a commoner, so he was very humble.
"Kagami-senpai, it's not just that."
Uchiha Kagami was taken aback. "Oh?"
Hatake Sakumo pointed to the sky. Under the setting sun, a flock of hawk-like birds flew in layers.
Everyone's brows furrowed slightly. "What's this?"
Hatake Sakumo said, "These are hawks unique to the Land of Iron. There are Iron Country samurai entering the Daimyo's territory."
As soon as he said this, everyone realized the seriousness of the situation.
The Land of Iron was known for its samurai. Although samurai were not as skilled in chakra manipulation as ninjas, their physical techniques were often superior. They didn't use chakra for reconnaissance, so these birds became one of the Iron Country's methods of patrol and reconnaissance.
"What a blunder. I actually overlooked such an obvious detail," Uchiha Kagami said.
Danzo and Chōza exchanged glances, feeling a bit ashamed.
"Senpais often fight against ninjas, so it's normal to be unfamiliar with samurai," Sakumo said.
Mizuno was a bit concerned. "But why are the samurai entering the Daimyo's residence..."
Inside the Fire Country Daimyo's mansion.
Several samurai lay on the ground. The Daimyo looked at the masked woman in front of him in a panic. "Who... who are you?"
The Iron Country samurai he had hired with a lot of money couldn't even put up a fight. The man beside her, who looked very dangerous, just moved his hand, and everyone fell. It was too unbelievable for the Daimyo.
The woman's voice was cold and terrifying. "You don't need to know our origins. Did you understand what I just told you?"
The Daimyo gritted his teeth. "You're wrong. Ever since that Hokage from Konoha, Senju Tobirama, took office, they've never taken the Daimyo seriously. Times have changed. It's not like when Hashirama was in power. The Second Hokage wouldn't listen to any of our opinions."
"Times have changed again, my lord," the woman slowly walked over. The red hair behind her mask cascaded down, beautiful and dangerous. "Senju Tobirama is dead."
The Daimyo's pupils contracted. "What did you say?"
"The Third Hokage he appointed needs your support. Those people will arrive soon. Of course, you know what to do."
The Daimyo gasped. "I... I understand."
After saying this, he looked up again. "Actually, you don't need to do this at all. I was unwilling to accept the Third Hokage appointed by the Second Hokage."
"Hopefully," the woman behind the mask seemed to smile slightly. "If so, maybe we can be friends."
The Daimyo nodded and sat up.
There were chaotic footsteps outside. "My lord, my lord!"
The woman waved her hand, and the man behind her instantly disappeared. The woman's figure also vanished in an instant.
A samurai burst through the door. "My lord, I am Hanpō, a high-ranking samurai of the Iron Country. Are you alright?"
The Daimyo nodded. "Hanpō, it seems you'll have to take charge of the security work from now on."
...
...
The next morning, Mizuno and his team paid a visit to the Fire Country Daimyo.
Inside the Daimyo's mansion, Mizuno sat in the guest seat, Uchiha Kagami sat below him, and Shimura Danzo and Akimichi Chōza stood on either side.
It seemed that the Daimyo was giving them a high level of treatment. There were plenty of dancers and tea ceremony etiquette, seemingly showing great sincerity. But Mizuno knew that this was not the Daimyo's true attitude.
Because they had waited too long.
From the time they delivered their name cards to the present, nearly two hours had passed. The dancers' songs were almost over, but the Daimyo's figure was still nowhere to be seen.
"Something's wrong," Uchiha Kagami said.
