Chapter 82: Chapter 82: With a Master Like This, It Must Be Hard on You
"Where's the yokai?"
Haruno couldn't quite believe it, they'd actually been cursed by a bakeneko.
"…Seems like it died."
Now that they had found a way to lift the curse, Yukino breathed a sigh of relief. As long as they could return to being human, it was fine.
Although cats were cute, who would really want to live the rest of their life as one?
Not to mention, cats also had fixed mating seasons...
"Let's go home, Yukino! Dad will definitely recognize us!"
"Are you sure? That Dad can recognize both of us?"
As a hardcore cat lover, the reason Yukino never had a cat was because Mrs. Yukinoshita was allergic to fur, and severely allergic at that.
With the current situation, if they got anywhere near the Yukinoshita mansion, the security would immediately find them and throw them out, wouldn't they?
"Then what should we do? Ask Miss Shizuka? Nanako?"
Haruno didn't have many friends either. The only ones she could think of were Hiratsuka Shizuka and Nanako.
"Do you think Miss Hiratsuka even has the brain for that?"
In Yukino's heart, Hiratsuka Shizuka didn't seem particularly bright.
"…Yeah, Shizuka might not be a good choice. Then should we go find Nanako?"
"But your relationship with Sister Nanako isn't quite at that level yet, right? Even if she's gentle, it's not guaranteed she'd recognize both of us."
"Then what exactly should we do?! It's still nighttime now, but if we don't show up to school tomorrow, Dad will quickly notice something's wrong. Once he realizes we're missing, he'll be worried sick!"
Just imagining her and Yukino going missing at the same time made Haruno feel like the sky was falling.
Thinking about how their strict father might be saddened by their disappearance, Yukino felt just the tiniest hint of revengeful satisfaction.
Under their father's oppressive rule, maybe the ultimate act of rebellion for a child like Yukino… was to disappear and leave him in anguish?
"…Let's go find Shin-chan, he's right next door."
For some reason, the first person Yukino thought of wasn't their dad, but Shin-chan.
"That unreliable brat?" Haruno let out a couple of sharp meows to express her dissatisfaction.
"He's my friend. He'll definitely recognize me."
Though she spoke firmly, Yukino didn't sound too confident. Could Shin-chan really recognize her?
Hearing her sister's words, Haruno fell silent. Shin-chan lived right next door, and honestly, he did seem like their only choice now.
Nanako was living in a university dorm, sneaking in would be tricky. Better to try Shin-chan first. Maybe… maybe he really would recognize Yukino?
And if he could, handing Yukino over to him might not be such a bad idea…
Having settled on going to Shin-chan, Yukino relaxed a little and began enjoying the odd sensations of being a cat. With just a light jump, she leapt down from the bed.
"Don't go running around!"
Haruno wasn't yet used to a cat's body, she walked clumsily and couldn't match Yukino's agility at all.
"Sis, you're so clumsy."
Being able to outdo Haruno for once made Yukino incredibly happy. She jumped up onto the bedroom desk and licked the water in a cup, fully displaying a cat's elegance and cunning.
"I'm just… not used to it yet!"
Haruno was still trying to save face, but she nearly tripped over her own paws, her walking rhythm was completely off, unlike Yukino's graceful feline gait.
"Sis, what exactly happened at home?"
Yukino chose this moment to ask the question. Haruno had no way to ignore it, maybe they really would have to live out the rest of their lives as cats together?
As a hardcore little-sister-lover, Haruno suddenly thought… maybe if she could spend her whole life with Yukino, even as a cat wouldn't be so bad?
"There's been a big problem with the family business. The head of the Shinomiya family's health is getting worse, and the three sons are all scrambling for succession, trying hard to prove themselves."
"Our family's real estate business was affected. The shares got diluted heavily, and if this continues, Yukinoshita Real Estate might get absorbed and reorganized by the Shinomiya family, we'll go bankrupt."
The Shinomiya family didn't directly target the Yukinoshita family. They just wanted to expand in Chiba, but even that pressure had left the Yukinoshita house struggling to stay afloat.
"Sigh. Back at the temple, my wish was to solve that issue. What was your wish, Yukino? Don't tell me it was to become a cat?"
"Sis, can we not joke around at a time like this? Come help me open the door."
Yukino's wish had been to understand how Shin-chan viewed her, whether he truly considered her a dear friend.
She hadn't expected that she'd be tested so soon. Would he be able to recognize her?
The apartment's security door required a bit of strength to open. The cat-girl sisters worked hard for a while before they finally got it open.
Next up was knocking on Shin-chan's door. After struggling for a bit, they finally managed to produce some dull banging sounds.
"Can that brat even hear this? Are we just wasting energy here?"
Haruno really wasn't used to this feline body, banging on the door felt like her bones were about to fall apart.
"Even if Shin-chan can't hear, Shiro definitely can."
"Shiro?"
Click!
The door opened. And it was Shiro who opened it.
"Huh? Are you here to see Shin-chan?"
Seeing two cats at the door, with very familiar scents, Shiro was stunned again. 'What's with all the weird stuff today? Are we doing another movie arc or what?'
The Yukinoshita sisters were just as shocked. So they could understand not only each other's speech, but dog language too?
"Shiro, you can understand what I'm saying?"
Yukino meowed twice in disbelief. By logic, even if they could understand animals, the animals shouldn't have such high intelligence, right? Even the smartest cats or dogs should only be able to communicate on a simple level, right?
"Aren't you Miss Yukinoshita from next door? Why are you a cat now?"
"Can we come in to talk? We need Shin-chan's help."
Shiro nodded and stepped aside. The Yukinoshita sisters, now two cats, successfully entered the room.
"Master's still watching TV. I just finished cleaning and happened to hear you banging the door. I thought it was a false alarm, but luckily I came to check."
'Cleaning? Is the world this crazy now?' Haruno widened her eyes. Could this dog have been cursed too, like them? A dog demon's curse?
"With a master like that… it must be hard on you."
The last time she saw Shiro running errands for Shin-chan, Yukino already thought his master was a bit much. Now to learn he even had Shiro cleaning the house?
The strange thing was, Yukino, who had always been scared of dogs, wasn't scared of Shiro anymore now that she was a cat.
Maybe a free-spirited cat naturally looks down on loyal dogs?
