Seraphim is a Bystander

vol. 1 chapter 28 - First Test Results

First Test Results

As Dr. Ichijou carried Aoi out of the room, we were met by his slightly worried parents and Ayaka-chan-san, who looked exasperated at how freely Dr. Ichijou had whisked Aoi away.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, everything went smoothly," she said with a cheerful smile.
"I see. That’s a relief," Aoi’s mother replied, visibly reassured.
She took Aoi into her arms and held him close, looking relieved.

"Did Aoi cause any trouble for you?"
"Not at all! He was very quiet and well-behaved!"
Clearly worried about Aoi’s powers going out of control, his parents seemed reassured by Dr. Ichijou’s words.

"Now then, shall we head back to the previous room and go over the test results?"
With that, Dr. Ichijou returned to the room she had tried to explain the results in earlier. It looked like a consultation room, where she took a seat and motioned for the parents to do the same. She began typing on a translucent floating display and keyboard.
Seeing the display from Aoi’s perspective, I realized this must be what everyone sees through nanomachines—it was impressive. A moment later, a similar transparent display appeared in front of Aoi and his parents.

"Alright, since this will involve private matters, Ayaka-kun, would you mind stepping out?"
"Of course. Seniors, I’ll be waiting outside, so please call me when you’re ready to leave."
Once Ayaka-chan-san exited through the door, Dr. Ichijou turned fully to face us and began.

"Alright, let me go over the test results now."
"Please do," both parents replied, bowing slightly.
Smiling at them, Dr. Ichijou checked ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) her display.

"First, to get straight to the point—there’s absolutely nothing wrong with either Aoi-kun or Sou-kun."
"Really?!"
"Yes. The detailed information is in the data I’ve sent, so please take a look."
Checking the display, they saw “No issues” listed under both Aoi and Sou’s evaluation sections. Swiping through the display, Aoi’s father brought up more detailed test results.

"As shown in the subsequent pages, both Aoi-kun and Sou-kun have truly exceptional abilities."
The data showed that both Aoi and Sou had scores far above the average across various categories.
"Sou-kun seems to possess quite high intelligence, and as a virtual organism, he's incredibly stable. Unless something extreme happens, I doubt he’ll lose control again."

"Guruu!"
Sou barked proudly, as if to say “Of course!” I can’t help but love how this prideful guy still rolls over and shows me his belly in private.
"…Gu?"

Suddenly shivering, Sou trembled a bit, maybe from a chill. Dr. Ichijou and Aoi’s parents looked puzzled but didn't seem too concerned and continued discussing the results.
"Sou-kun’s flames are regulated by his own will, so there’s no need to worry about anything catching fire."
That explains why touching him didn’t feel hot—he was controlling it himself.

"Also, regarding Sou-kun’s current flames—they’re being significantly influenced by Aoi-kun."
"By Aoi?"
Looking confused, Aoi’s parents listened as Dr. Ichijou showed them more data.

"As you can see here, Aoi-kun possesses a very high-purity flame attribute ability. High-purity flame abilities, when manifested, appear as blue flames."
Realizing this, the parents looked at Sou, who was now cloaked in blue fire. They must have remembered the first time they saw him in a rampage, spewing black flames.
"Even now, Aoi-kun is channeling his ability into Sou-kun, right? Sou-kun seems to be a virtual lifeform that draws power from flame, so they’re highly compatible."

"I see. By the way, is it safe for us to give our abilities to him as well?"
"Ah, there’s no issue with that. It’s just that Aoi-kun’s ability happens to be especially compatible."
Dr. Ichijou’s explanation seemed to ease their concerns about Sou constantly sticking to Aoi.

"Now then, regarding Aoi-kun himself—his abilities are so powerful that you’d doubt he’s only one and a half years old."
Her words made both parents visibly tense, but she continued cheerfully, perhaps to ease the mood.
"His power, purity, and circuits all score way above the average! This is what you’d call a once-in-a-thousand-years genius!"

"…I see."
Still unsure, their worried expressions remained. Seeing this, Dr. Ichijou smiled gently.
"Aoi-kun’s power will surely continue to grow, but as long as you both raise him with love and care, there’s nothing to worry about. If you ever have any doubts, I promise to support you however I can."

"Dr. Ichijou…"
"And Sou-kun being so attached to Aoi-kun is thanks to Aoi-kun’s kindness. I’m sure that with such a kind heart, Aoi-kun won’t ever use his power for the wrong reasons."
Her words seemed to finally bring some peace to the parents' expressions. Dr. Ichijou quickly operated her translucent board and turned back toward them.

"I’ve also sent you my personal contact info. Feel free to reach out anytime."
"Thank you so much."
While the parents were clearly moved by Dr. Ichijou’s kindness, I couldn’t help being a bit exasperated. You see, in Aoi’s nanomachine-vision display, a message popped up saying:

“Private Message: Ichijou”
(You can message me anytime~☆)
She had even made sure the message didn’t show up on the parents’ display. Seriously?
"Alright, that wraps up today’s tests! Please get home safely~"

"Thank you for everything today, Dr. Ichijou."
As Aoi’s parents bowed deeply and exited the room, Dr. Ichijou replied with a cheerful "No problem~" and even gave a wink—probably aimed at me inside Aoi.
…She’s not a bad person, just… a little too playful. Not that I dislike her, though.

After that, Ayaka-chan-san, who had been waiting outside, teleported us all back home. Just like that, our everyday life resumed.
Tips: Sou used to be super prideful… or so we thought…
