Chapter 766: Nosy Parker
"Eight talismans, do you want them or not!" the man in the green robe tossed eight red talismans in front of the other person.
The old Taoist in the yellow robe widened his eyes, astonished that his companion had pulled out eight red talismans—this was truly frightening. A single red talisman could fetch at least one hundred and eighty thousand in the outside world. Of course, the money of the secular world can't compare to these talismans. Such talismans were considered protective amulets in the cultivation world.
"Deal!" The other party hesitated briefly before picking up the eight red talismans.
Excited, the man in the green robe held the broken sword. Although it was only a broken sword, it had been used by an ancient-level deity. If there were any remnants of an Ancient Great God's qi or spiritual sense inside it, it would greatly benefit his cultivation. Getting that object would be immensely advantageous for him. Moreover, just the spiritual sense inside this broken sword was worth the price.
Carefully, the man in the green robe placed the broken sword into his Qiankun bag. Then, he continued to wander aimlessly through the Sub-Ghost Market.
"Daoist, I need to gather information. Where should I go?" Xiao Han humbly asked.
"Gather information?" The yellow-robed Taoist hesitated before saying, "In the northwest corner, there seems to be a Nosy Parker."
"Oh," Xiao Han nodded.
"How come? You're here to gather information?" the old Taoist in the yellow robe asked.
"Yes!" Xiao Han nodded and then said, "A friend of mine was captured, and I want to rescue her, so I need to find out her whereabouts and see if I can track her down."
"However, Nosy Parker's prices aren't low," the old Taoist in the yellow robe chuckled, "You should be mentally prepared."
"Mm!" Xiao Han clenched his teeth.
He had nothing valuable on him—no Yellow Talisman, Red Talisman, Gold Talisman—absolutely nothing, and he had no treasures to barter with either. Suddenly, Xiao Han remembered that during his fight with Daoist Qingfeng, he had seized a Xuanyuan Sword from him. This sword seemed very powerful—it was useless to him but perhaps valuable to others.
He arrived at the northwest corner of the Ghost Market.
Soon, he found Nosy Parker's stall.
Nosy Parker was a chubby man with a simple and honest look, dressed in a gray robe, sitting on a chair, and holding a hand fan. He had a small mustache and sharp, cunning eyes looking stealthily from side to side.
"Yo, got customers?" Nosy Parker, alone, chuckled and said, "What would you like to inquire about?"
"I need your help to find someone," Xiao Han said.
"Find someone?" Nosy Parker shook his fan and said, "That won't be cheap."
"Price is negotiable," Xiao Han nodded.
"Alright, tell me about this person," Nosy Parker laughed, believing firmly that there was no one he couldn't find.
Nosy Parker was a mysterious figure; no one knew his background, only that he was very capable. Though he had no cultivation, he could gather information of any level.
"Her name is Xiao Yue, she's a demon, a juvenile Golden Giant Python. I brought her out of the Mist Forest," Xiao Han said.
Nosy Parker's smile widened slightly at the corner of his mouth. "Okay, noted. But..."
"This..." Xiao Han flipped his palm, and a black longsword appeared in his hand.
"Xuanyuan Sword?" Nosy Parker's eyes gleamed.
"Xiao Han, that's a good sword you're giving him?" the man in the green robe asked.
"Then... how does it compare to your broken sword?" Xiao Han asked back.
"This..." The man in the green robe hesitated before replying, "My broken sword already possesses a spiritual sense. Your Xuanyuan Sword, although it is not broken, lacks a spiritual sense. At most, it's just a good sword but can't be considered a Magic Artifact or a Spiritual Artifact."
"That settles it then," Xiao Han laughed.
Nosy Parker tucked the Xuanyuan Sword into his embrace and then said, "Come here on the first day of next month. I will have the information for you."
"Okay!" Xiao Han nodded.
Xiao Han had absolute trust in Nosy Parker's words—after all, one could not afford to break trust while doing business in the Ghost Market; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to survive there long. The yellow-robed Taoist and the man in the green robe both felt regretful, lamenting how such a fine sword could easily be lost just to exchange for some information. They complained all the way.
In the Ghost Market, there were many people, and it was bustling with activity.
Xiao Han saw many fine items but unfortunately had no means to buy any. The only item he could trade, the Xuanyuan Sword, had been used to exchange for information about Xiao Yue. In Xiao Han's heart, Xiao Yue was certainly much more important than the Xuanyuan Sword.
Ghost King, always in the form of a cat, was lying on Xiao Han's shoulder. Ghost King asked, "For Xiao Yue, is losing the Xuanyuan Sword worth it?"
"It is worth it!" Xiao Han smiled and said, "Friends are much more valuable than material possessions."
"I don't understand," Ghost King shook his head.
For the Ghost King, a Xuanyuan Sword was far more valuable than a juvenile Golden Giant Python. At the very least, the Xuanyuan Sword was a handy weapon. Xiao Yue was just a Golden Giant Python, which wasn't very useful at all.
"For you, I'd sacrifice the Soul Bead," Xiao Han said solemnly.
Upon hearing this, the Ghost King immediately fell silent, but his mind was in turmoil. The Soul Bead was an extraordinary object; revealing it at this time could cause a sensation throughout the Ghost City. It might even catch the attention of the lord of the Ghost City. And Xiao Han would likely be targeted by many powerful figures. The origin of the Soul Bead was still unclear; it was only known that it might be an ancient magic artifact from the Yellow Emperor, perhaps even a Life Essence Bead refined by the Yellow Emperor's vital energy.
If that were true, the bead's value could no longer be measured, for it had become a tremendous treasure.
Yet Xiao Han was willing to trade the Soul Bead for his own life. This... this shocked the Ghost King immensely. At least, for the Ghost King, he would not sacrifice such a precious Soul Bead for someone unrelated to him, let alone a ghost who had signed a servant contract with him. He wouldn't even do it for a Xuanyuan Sword.
So, Xiao Han's words left the Ghost King speechless.
The Ghost King trusted Xiao Han, because for Xiao Yue, he had already given the Xuanyuan Sword to someone else.
In the heart of the Ghost King, Xiao Han's status rose once again, and invisibly, Xiao Han had earned the true acknowledgment of the Ghost King.
After wandering around the Ghost Market, realizing he couldn't afford anything, Xiao Han could only leave the Ghost City with the Old Taoist in Yellow Robe and the Man in Green Robe. The Yellow-robed Taoist traded for a compass with a Marrow-Cleansing Pill, which contained a certain power and was quite a decent magic artifact. This time, both the Old Taoist and the Man in Green Robe had benefited quite a bit and got themselves a good deal, at least that's what the Ghost King said.
Their departure from the Ghost City went smoothly.
The group passed through the Ghost Gate and returned to the Chang'an Cemetery.
"Xiao Han, my young friend, we're leaving first," the Old Taoist in Yellow Robe said with a smile, "Visit me at the Three Pure Ones Temple on Mount Three Pure Ones when you have time."
"Sure!" Xiao Han nodded.
"Xiao Han, I'm leaving too," said the Man in Green Robe with a smile, "Visit me at Wangjiang Tower when you have time."
"Sure!" Xiao Han smiled politely.
As soon as the two of them left, the Ghost King immediately reverted to his true form; he deeply inhales the Yin Qi in the air. Numerous wandering wild ghosts around him were swallowed by the Ghost King, for him just another feast. A feast like this only came on the first and fifteenth of each lunar month.
"Let's go!" Xiao Han sighed, saying, "It seems we'll have to come back here in half a month."
The Ghost King nodded repeatedly, saying, "Let's go!"
Xiao Han returned to Shuimu University and climbed over the wall in the middle of the night. When he arrived back at his dormitory, Zhang Feng and the others were already deep asleep. Xiao Han entered the dormitory, didn't turn on the light, and directly burrowed into his bed.
The next morning, bright and early.
Xiao Han got up, just as a commotion arose outside.
Soon after, two police officers walked in.
"Who is Xiao Han?" a square-faced male police officer demanded sharply.
The others in the dormitory sat up quickly, all eyes turning to Xiao Han. Rubbing his eyes, Xiao Han said, "That's me."
"You are suspected of intentional injury and need to come to the station with us for an investigation," the man glanced at Xiao Han and then said, "Come with us."
Xiao Han frowned and said, "I haven't even brushed my teeth or washed my face; let me brush my teeth first."
"No!" the square-faced officer shouted sternly.
"Let him brush his teeth," the slightly frail male officer intervened.
Seeing him speak up, the square-faced officer couldn't refuse, and he reluctantly agreed.
Xiao Han got up to brush his teeth and wash his face. It took only a few minutes, and in that time, Xiao Han figured out why they were there—for the incident with Huang Liang yesterday. So, Xiao Han appeared fairly calm. He smiled and then said, "It's because of Huang Liang's incident, right?"
"Good that you know!" the square-faced officer snorted.
Then, the square-faced officer pulled out handcuffs. Xiao Han furrowed his brow and said, "I'm not a criminal now; why would you handcuff me?"
The square-faced officer was about to speak when the police officer behind him said, "No need for handcuffs, let's go."
Xiao Han smiled, then said to Zhang Feng, "Ask Teacher Lan for a leave for me, just say I have something to deal with."
"Ah…" Zhang Feng was stunned, not expecting Xiao Han to take it so lightly.
Zhang Feng could only nod dumbfoundedly, then watched as Xiao Han was taken away. As soon as Xiao Han left, the dormitory fell into chaos. Zhang Dagou quickly said, "What... what's going on?"
"It's about the incident at noon yesterday!" Zhang Feng said bitterly as he recounted the event.
Upon hearing this, both were slightly stunned; they hadn't expected Xiao Han to have hit Huang Liang. Considering Huang Liang's strong background among the new group of students, they couldn't understand why someone of his status would go to the canteen to eat, but indeed, Xiao Han had actually hit him.
