Saitama is my Disciple in One Punch Man

Chapter 17: SDOPM: Chapter 17

"WHO DID THIS?! WHO?!"

Back-Brawler Elder's eyes were blazing. Rage practically radiated off him.

"It… it was a guy named Garou."

A small, hesitant voice came from a corner. It was Chestnut, the only female member of the Back-Brawler Gang. She'd only been knocked unconscious; Garou hadn't harmed her.

"GAROU?! You bastard! I'll make you pay! You'll feel the same pain my men are feeling!!!"

Back-Brawler Elder's furious roar echoed through the gym. He vowed revenge.

Kaito Ren hadn't expected Garou to inadvertently save him. He'd have to thank him properly later.

That night, Kaito Ren tossed and turned, unable to sleep. A bold idea formed in his mind. He was three years in the past. The Hero Association was brand new. The powerful heroes of the future were still unknown. Saitama, the future invincible hero, was just a newbie starting his training.

What if… he recruited those future S-class heroes who were currently unknown, forming a new team?

The thought was electrifying.

But then he hesitated. Such a team would be just like Blizzard's group! Like Tatsumaki said, a collection of weaker heroes would be a pathetic, self-amusing clown show.

No way.

Kaito Ren shook his head, giving up on the idea and trying to sleep.

Dozens of kilometers away, at the Asaka estate…

Asaka Hanako lay awake, unable to sleep. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Kaito Ren, especially his impressive display against the Back-Brawler Gang. She felt a ripple of excitement, anticipating a stronger Kaito Ren in the future.

The next morning…

Kaito Ren was still asleep when Saitama woke him.

"Teacher! Teacher, wake up!"

"What?!"

Kaito Ren rubbed his eyes, yawning.

"Look at this! I got this flyer this morning!"

Saitama was excited, holding up a flyer.

"Just a flyer…"

Kaito Ren glanced at it, his expression turning peculiar.

"Reserve Hero School?! What the heck is this?!"

"The guy handing them out said it's a combat training school to deal with the increasing number of monsters. Anyone under 25 can sign up, it's free, includes food and lodging! Plus, bonuses for good performance!"

Saitama was even more excited. This school seemed tailor-made for them. Training, food, lodging, and money!

"Let's check it out."

Kaito Ren, initially uninterested, changed his mind upon hearing about the free food, lodging, and money. He'd thought selling monster materials would be enough to support them, maybe even let them buy a car. But last night's Oden dinner cost over 90,000 yen! He'd been naive. Without monster parts, they'd starve. This was an opportunity they couldn't miss.

The school wasn't far, less than fifty kilometers away, on the edge of Z-City. They decided to go immediately. They were out of food, and their remaining few thousand yen barely covered the bus fare.

"This is the Reserve Hero School?!"

"The sign says so."

"Whew, finally found it! It took me forever!"

"Excuse me, who's in charge? Is it really free? Do they really pay?"

Kaito Ren and Saitama arrived to find the school entrance crowded with prospective students.

"That's right! We train heroes to combat the increasing number of monsters. Reach a certain level or defeat enough monsters, and you'll receive a bonus. Everything here is free!"

A sweet-looking woman in a business suit addressed the crowd from a platform.

"What if I'm really strong and kill lots of monsters? Extra rewards? Like a date with you?"

A shirtless, tattooed man grinned lecherously.

"If you can beat me, you've got a chance!"

The woman smiled sweetly.

"Ha! You're on!"

The man charged the platform, launching a series of low blows and dirty tactics. The women in the crowd hissed in disgust, but the woman on stage remained calm, effortlessly dodging his attacks.

"Damn it!"

The man, frustrated, went all out, lunging at her. The woman, as if bored with dodging, suddenly kicked him in the chest. The seemingly light kick sent the nearly two hundred-pound man flying off the platform. His friends rushed to help.

"Our school doesn't restrict anyone. But you need a certain level of skill. This man clearly doesn't qualify. The rest of you, good luck! We hope to welcome you as students."

The woman calmly continued her presentation.

"Interesting."

Kaito Ren studied the woman, impressed. She hadn't even broken a sweat. The Hero Association wasn't as weak as he'd thought.

"Let's get started!"

A voice cut through the crowd. A woman in a black dress and Black hair floated onto the platform.
