Chapter 3: Rune date (Brunch Bistro)
"Seriously? A PTV highway chase? Spell that's so stupid and cool! Can't believe my older brother sent you to NQSC to chase down some terrorist!"
The voice belonged to a girl of medium height. She's an attractive looking young woman with pale skin and noticeable raven black-hair. That day she had chosen to wear a more casual style outfit, a grey jumper with blueish outlines and an ordinary sneaker. Her hair is tied up by an onyx black pin, while a vermillion, red scarf wrapped around her neck, which complimented her pale white skin.
The young woman then looked over at her shoulder, towards her companion, stretched out both of her arms and exclaimed.
"Spell! I wished that my brother would send me to one of those cooler missions! But seriously, first a Bank robbery, now a highway chase! What next?"
"Princess, I would like to repeat myself again that it wasn't supposed to be a 'highway chase', it's just so happened to end up that way..."
The calm and cool voice belonged to a tall and attractive man, with black hair and piercing blue eyes. As he just finished a mission for the Shadow Clan, he's still in his disguised, which consisted of a black coat, dark boots, and fake glasses; the latter complimented his blue eyes pretty well according to most people, Rain herself included.
As Rain continues to walk down the sidewalk — away from the direction of the highway chase, she then turned around looking back at her companion. Giving him a smirk and replied in a teasing voice.
"Well- I supposed that is true, regardless I guess it was a stroke of luck that you ran into me again huh June? Like the whole Bank and that villain Tyrant from a few months ago? I mean things was starting to get messy when I showed up."
June then stared at her for a moment, then proceeded to take a deep breath and smiled back at the Shadow Clan princess.
"Well i guess i do owe you some... Thanks for saving my butts back there. Frankly this mission was kinda risky all things considered considering how Ray and Fleur couldn't come with me this time."
The Princess then looked at the corsair with a surprised face, as if she just realised something just at that moment.
"Right! I thought something was missing! Last time during the Bank robbery thing, you were there with Ray and Fleur, where are they now?"
June looked at her, then shrugged.
"Well Ray and Fleur said they were off with their own separate mission so here I am, taking this one alone."
Rain then turned around and continued to walk forwards, as June followed her. Eventually they stopped at a crossroad, waiting for the PTVs to passed by so that they can continue. Leaning on the side of the traffic pole, the Black hair woman proceeded to asked.
"Hey, do you want to go and grab something? I mean after a mission you are probably are going to get hungry right?"
June stared at her with a calm and cool expression on his face.
"No thanks I'm not hungr-"
At that moment, while Corsair was just about to finish his sentences, a loud growl could be heard by both members of the enigmatic Shadow Clan.
June then turned his head and faced to the side, scratching his hair.
'Crap!'
Just then, June felt that he would spontaneously combust out of sheer embarrassment, considering how he just said that he 'wasn't hungry' with a calm and collected attitude, right before his stomach decided to betray him. In truth, to prepare for this mission, he had been tracking down and stalking his target for some times, which resulted to him not eating anything much for the last few days. Although normally he can keep his stomach in check by sheer mental strength alone, a trick or two he learned back in the Antarctic campaign as a government grunt; its seems that his stomach had given out at the worst possible moment. With a Cough, he eventually replied to Rain, while trying to somehow keep a cool demeanour.
"Not that hungry, I mean."
Rain then proceeded to look back at the Corsair, giving him a cheeky smile, tapping his shoulder.
"Sure, you are — come I know a place over at Bastion!"
****************************************************************
The warm atmosphere of False Bastion was a staggering contrast to the chilling atmosphere of NQSC in the real world. Due to this, before reaching to their destination, the two awakened made a short break to change their clothes to something more appropriate for the weather. The Shadow Clan princess is now wearing a white T-shirt with a serpent logo on the back and a short with a photo of a white lotus on the side, though she's still wearing those same sneakers as before. Similarly, Awakened June had also changed his clothes, now he wears a grey t-shirt with also a serpent logo on the back as well, with a long and black cargo pants to go along with. Though his fake glasses are still on.
"Are you sure this is the right place, princess?"
June asked, staring at Rain. The area they are at... Isn't exactly very popular in Bastion, as it is an alleyway, seemingly filled with all sorts of characters that the fire keepers haven't dealt with yet. The quality of the road here isn't exactly in top shape compared to the rest of the city and the surroundings have moss growing at random places.
"We should be here soon... I think."
Rain replied to her blue-eyed companion; she hasn't been to this area before either. She had only heard of it from words of mouth, so this was the first time she has been to this area of Bastion as well.
As the pair of awakened continues to walk along the alleyway, they met all sorts of interesting characters, including a homeless man on the side of the road, talking about something along the lines of:
"I'm telling you kid! The Daemon of Desire is actually still alive! She came to me in a dream a few years ago!"
Regardless, Rain continues to push on, dragging Corsair along with her. Eventually they reached the restaurant they were searching for. It was quite an establishment, around 300 square meters in size. Most of the place is open air with a metal roof on top of it, hold on by a few poles planted at certain places. The wall of the bistro is white, including the small 1 story tall hut, which was around 100 square meters. The establishments open air section seemed to also serve as a kind of garden as well, with several plant life thriving, with around 14 tables scattered around. There is also a sign hanging from the gate outside, which said, 'The Marbled Fig Bistro'. All things considered, the place was beautiful to behold, which is why it also stood out like a sore thumb compared to everything else in the alley.
As the two awakened entered the Bistro and take their table, June glanced over at Rain, then let out a calm smile, asking.
"So, princess, how did you even hear about this place? I mean it is in the middle of nowhere, it's not exactly a place I would ever imagine you to be at."
Rain was staggered at her companion's cool and calm smile, which took her a few seconds to answer his question.
"Well, I've heard about this place since Ray and Fleur! They actually went here on one of their very first date, ahh they couldn't shut up about how good the food here was."
Suddenly, Rain flinched, and her body froze out of nowhere.
'Wait, since Ray and Fleur went here on a date... Then doesn't that mean me and June are now on a date as well?! I mean there's nothing going on between us but still...'
Rain then sneaked a glance at June, who was currently reading the menu.
'Actually, this isn't too bad...'
After a while, Rain called a waiter by the name of 'Backer' over to her table to order their food and drinks. Rain herself ordered pasta with mushroom and cream sauce and a coffee liquor, while June himself ordered some Poach eggs with avocado, hot chicken tenders with ranch sauce and shaken Vodka martini.
'Huh he must be hungrier than I thought'
Rain ponders to herself, after hearing June order selection, though for some reason thinking about it makes her feel at ease for unknown reasons that Rain herself haven't figured out yet.
Though after a feel minute of waiting for her food to arrived, she noticed something off about the bistro they're in. Although the place is at a relatively unknown location, through words of mouth, it did have quite a few customers today; And apparently, most of the female customers in the bistro today are currently either staring at or talking about her companion's looks.
'Keep your eyes off him you....'
Suddenly she froze again, as if her soul sea had completely frozen in place by the likes of the winter beast, staring down at the table with open wide eyes.
'W- Wait what am I even thinking? It's not like me and June are dating or anything!'
Eventually after a hot minute or two, Rain managed to compose herself and attempts to make small talk with June.
"Sooo... I didn't know that you like drinking Vodka."
June looks at her with a stiff expression, almost agitated, but then quickly returned-back to his usual cool and calm demeanour.
"Well, if it's one thing good I got in common with my grandfather, then it would be drinking this."
'Crap! This is so awkward!' Rain thought to herself, as though June tried to hide it, his voice was filled with distain towards his grandfather, making the overall mood of their conversation more awkward. So, she decided to ask about something else that could perhaps lighten up the mood.
''Okay.... So, June, you probably have heard of the old Dreamscape before, which player was your favourite?
June then stared at her for a while, then looked up at the roof, it seemed like he was thinking deeply about this question. Which was a surprising for Rain as she would just assume he would answer immediately, though after a while he did reply.
"Well... I didn't actually watch much Dreamscape back then myself, but if I had to pick, then I guess I would've gone for the generic choice of 'Queen Bee'. Though I do remember a vague player that I really liked watching right before the Antarctic campaign, so it might be that player too."
Well, that answer didn't surprised Rain much, since almost everybody chose Queen Bee as their favourite dreamscape player, with a few smaller portions of people choosing the likes of Leo striker. Though the mentions of the 'other player' that June described was kind of interesting as well, since it's also similar to a lot of people recollection of the dreamscape games too, with a mysterious player that no one seems to remember.
"So, what do you like about Queen Bee and this mysterious player?"
June then gave her a cool smile then laughed, which made her heart fluttered a bit.
'Cute!'
Eventually June did respond to her question.
"Well, for Queen Bee, I always noticed that she has quite a unique fighting style, while for the other player... I don't know, can't really remember much."
Eventually both Rain and June continued to chat for a while until their foods and drinks had arrived. Though, during the midst of their conversation, the Princess of the Shadow Clan realised that she's for some reason having a hard time to keep her eyes off the Corsair.
'Crap...Have I've been staring for too long? What if he notices? Think of something else! Like imagine him in a dress or something!'
Then she flinched.
'That's even worse!'
************************************************************************
A few minutes after their orders had arrived, there was suddenly a commotion outside. Due to both being an awakened, they managed to hear every little detail on what the commotion was about. It seemed that two big shot saints have arrived.
"Hey is that Saint Nightingale? What's he doing here?!"
One person asked.
"Hey beside him is that- the old princess of Valor? she's so pretty~ Wait are they together?"
Another one asked.
The whole bistro was now in frenzy thanks to their arrival, which did annoy Rain and June a bit due to how loud it was. Though eventually, the noises did die down, partially thanks to Morgan asking them to be quite in a demanding tone. However, something that Rain didn't expect- no, something she should've expected was for the 2 saints to approach her table.
"Ahh, you're Sunny younger sister! Rain, right? Long time no see!"
Saint Kai exclaimed excitedly. He'd then turns around and looks over at June.
"Oh? Rain, who is this that you're with?"
Rain looked back at Kai, replying to his question in a flustered voice.
"Oh... That's June! He's uh- a friend from work!"
With that, Corsair stood up and walked over to Kai, then bow and shake his hand.
"I'm awakened June sir; it was an honour to serve with you back in Antarticia."
The gorgeous saint then looks over to his shoulder, at the Saint with vermilion eyes, smiling, he looked at them again.
"So, are you two like on a date right now? Because I'm sorry if we're interrupt-"
Suddenly, out of nowhere both June and Rain suddenly spoke up, interrupting the saint mid-sentence.
"NO! We are not dating and there's nothing going on between us!"
Then there was a moment of silence between the two pairs, which was only broke by the sound of Kai laughing.
"Right, right..."
Before Kai could say anything else, June then asked Kai a question in return, in his usual cool and calm voice.
"So, Saint Kai, may I ask why you and Saint Morgan are here? Are you two a thing now like the rumours are saying?"
With that, both Kai and Morgan face suddenly lit up red like a fresh tomato.
"What?! No..... We- uh, Saint Kai and i are here today for a simple business meeting!"
