Roar of the Anjanath

Chapter 13: That Pain in Our Sides

"WHY ARE THEIR TWO DIABLOSES RUNNING AMOK IN THE WILDSPIRE!?" The Commander slams his palms on the table furious with the new situation in his hands. Earlier today he was enjoying a rare moment of respite when he noticed one of the researchers looking for him in a panic. Hearing the hasty report given to him, The Commander was shocked at first, then, he quickly called a meeting to solve the problem, leading to what is happening now.

The remaining fleet masters, unsure how to answer their leader, remain silent, having no idea themselves. "Hmm mm, you don't mind if i interrupt , do you?" Hearing the voice, all members of the table turned to see it was the chief ecologist, a report in hand. "We have just gathered some new information regarding the diabloses from one of our hunters that were assigned to gathering materials. She was the first victim of the raging diabli, yet was able to be extracted before she met her end. Her name, according to the report, was Xyla."

Yes the victim of Evans' latest schemes, Xyla, had survived. She had done so by rolling the egg in the opposite direction of her escape route and hiding in a nearby cave, watching as the diabli continued to tear into the guilds' forces.

Xyla steps up to the table and describes her recent nightmare of an experience " I was venting frustrations in the Wildspire waste when Something approached me. When I turned around, I saw that it was an anjanath staring-"

"Wait, you said an Anjanath? as in, the abnormal wyvern we have been purrrsuing for past two years now?" Meowscular chef interrupts, disbelief in his eyes. "Were you attacked by it?"

"No that's the strange part. Instead of attacking me, it dropped in front of me me what I believe was the egg for the diablos couple."

"WHAT!"

"No way!"

"So you mean to tell us-"

"That the Anjanath used me as bait? yes, it did." Xyla concluded, to the shock of the fleet members and even The Commander, who thought this anjanath couldn't get stranger. Realizing something, he then asks "Where is it now?"

"I do not know, however, before it left, it was last seen heading North. What it wants I have no idea." With that, Xyla, with permission from The Commander, leaves the table.

The Commander folds his arms, closing his eyes to think of their next plan of action. " Alright. We will have to adjust are current operations. Right now, our main priorities are as follows: to gather enough supplies for the main operation 3 years from now, to subdue the elder dragon by that timeframe, and to make sure that Anjanath is delt with before that day. I will assign 3 groups to track down and capture this creature. The first will be scouts in order to keep it within our line of sights. The second will be lance and bow hunters. The final group will actually be just an individual. [The Warhorn.] "

At the mention of this title, eyebrows of many around the table shot up. The Head engineer, an older man, asks "He's back? When?" "He arrived just today, having finished his assigned mission." The Commander would normally not bring out one of the more elite hunters under his command for a mission like this, but sometimes a heavier hand is needed.

The moniker, [Warhorn] came from his expertise with the hunting horn, and his record shows it too. 100 wyverns, no fails, and zero casualties. With a record like this, The Commander was sure this strange anjanath will be caught.

"We WILL catch this brutish wyvern!"

and while this meeting came to an end, we find the main perpetrator of this diablos fiasco walking, still snickering from time to time about the poor fool he duped "That should keep them busy for a while. Now to get going." For the next few days, Evans traveled, braving a sandstorm and blazing sun as he traveled. he at what small creatures he could find and the occasional rockfruit, finding them surprisingly delicious despite their tough exterior.

By the end of the week, he finally sees his stop: the great ravine. Evans made his way here for one reason: to prepare for the upcoming siege. Because he doesn't know when that will begin, he decided to camp out in the spot he is sure the blazing elder dragon will appear. In the meantime, Evans got to work. He begins to scout around the area, locating where he can find food, water, and a place to build his shelter with access to the previous two items. Having found that what he needs is within the southern part of the Ravine, he makes his way out there and begins to set up. Living up to his species' name as fierce jaw wyverns, Evan excavates a side of the Ravine to make a make shift cave large enough for him to fit. Once done, He lays his head to rest, dreaming of when the big opportunity will come knocking on his doorstep(literally).
