Roar of the Anjanath

Chapter 12: Tussle with the Tyrants

Evans came to find out how his little tussle back in the ancient forrest had some other boons besides the Gem. For starters, without the fear of a Rathalos over their heads, Aptonoths grew more courageous and began to move along the meadows more often. Because of this, food was aplenty for both hunters and wyverns which came with an even better start: an all out war for food. Although Evans isn't entirely sure, he believes that the hunters went for these aptonoths for a big operation, like hunting Zorah Magdaros. And since wyverns like aptonoths, hunters flocked to get materials for their gear, giving Evans some much needed breathing room at the time.

Now that it seems like the hunters have nothing better to do than pester him, he decides to do his good deed for the day and help them out. And what better way than letting loose an angry Diablos?

As there name implies, these devils of the sands are not only powerful, but are territorial too. With them in the way of hunters, Evans can mossy on over to his next destination unbothered. Light on his feat, he bounds his way over to the nearby cave system. Some of the protector Grimalkynes nearby tried to scare him off with scary faces on their shields. If this was enough to drive him away, he might as well have joined the aptonoths, grazing on grass for the rest of his life. With a quick huff, he blew away the pestering felines, and descended down the cave system.

"Lucky Droll already left the area, otherwise he would've been a victim of circumstance." Evans still wasn't sure if Droll left because he could never beat him or if the ant sources near his nest got a little low. Either way, he won't be back until either the ants come marching or if something forces him back here. "Now where is this Diab-oh." Having stomped his way in, Evans finds not one, but TWO diablos napping near the sand fall. Both have incredibly large curved horns sharp enough to skewer any foolish or brave enough to get close. Behind them lies their tails, more resembling wrecking balls with how they are shaped, likely to smash apart anything in its way. And the best part? one of them is completely black, meaning that this is a couple that has most likely done the deed. "And to think these destructive things only eat cacti. Still pretty metal but kind of lame from how powerful they seem. Welp! Time to be an alarm clock." And with that, Evans huffed and puffed and then-

AUGHGRAAAAAAH! GRAAAAAAAH!

Two pairs of now angry eyes open as both diablos twist their necks to see what creature invades their home.

GRAWAHHHHHHHHHH!

Both simultaneously roar and burry under the sands. Watching the earth mounds heading his way Evans crouches slightly waiting for the right moment. And then right as tremors began to take form, He jumped up high. The two Horned wyverns emerge, only to give the other an indirect kiss, crashing face first into each other. Evans then lands on both heads, one foot for each headplate. Using them as springboards, Evans leaps away, knocking both of them to the ground in the process.

And as if his actions weren't agitating the diabloses(diabli?) enough, Evans slaps his tail on the ground twice and begins chuffing. Infuriated by the invader laughing at them, the devils of the sands look at each other, a fiery glint in their eyes. And then circle around Evans, the black diablos on the left while her partner arrives to the right. Evans lets them, knowing what they are trying to do.

Sure enough, both charge at the same time, horns lowered and ready to slice the pink provoker. 'Idiots, how do you think i dodged the first time?' Glad to let them repeat their mistake, Evans hops to over the sandy diablos, much to its frustration. However, before he could attempt to stop and turn to find his opponent, his partner slams into him. To make matters worse, now their horns are interlocked, resulting in a tug of war trying to free the two.

With the two diablos doing the tango, Evans explores their nest abit. "Hoh, you two work fast. Gotta commend you bro, although the season just started, you've been putting in work." With his little expedition, he found something that confirmed his previous guess about the two: an egg. it was the size of a human torso, half buried within the sand. Evans, The good helper he is, dug the egg out holding it in his jaw. He then makes his way back to the two still trying to untie each other. Seeing what Evans had returned with, Both Diabloses' Eyes turned red, and they began to howl at Evans, demanding he returns their offspring. "You can get you egg, back, just gotta find it first, hehe." Just like that, Evans swaggered away, uninjured and two looks that said he was a dead wyvern walking.

"Alright, now that I have thoroughly pissed off two of the wild spire's apex predators, I should be on my way"

As he was traveling north, Evans sees a figure in the distance. Squinting abit, he realizes what it is and, grinning with an evil gleam in his eye, he walks towards it

Scene change: 'camouflaged' hunter(poor fool doesn't know what's about to happen)

"UGGHH I HATE EGG QUESTS!" on the edge near a wall of vines, we see a hunter, fuming at another failed quest. She is wearing the guilds 'fool proof ghillie mantle' that was supposed to keep monsters away from her. "Fool proof my ass, ill make sure those scholars and whoever made this get a piece of my mind!" Beside her feet lies another ruined egg thanks to the apceros nearby.

Suddenly, the area around her grows dark. "Eh? what happened? I know for a fact an eclipse isn't due till-" She stops speaking, for when she turned around, she came face to face with the one thing she thought wouldn't appear around here: an Anjanath. and a big one too. "Ok, this is bad, REALLY bad. But... it hasn't attacked me yet so hopefully, as long as I'm non-threatening, i can leave without a fight."

As she was ready to back away however, she noticed something "Is that...AN EGG!?" right between the teeth of the fierce jaw wyvern was an egg, on that could possibly get her a pass with her handler. "DAMN, if only this thing would just drop the egg." To her shock as if the thing understood her, the anjanath placed the egg in the sand and ran. "What? WHAT!? IT ACTUALLY LEFT THE EGG!? SWEET!" To exited at the prospect of passing the quest she hates with a passion, the hunter doesn't even question why it left the egg after she said that. She rushes over to the egg and picks it up. "Oh you beautiful thing, you'll get me of of egg duty! FINALLY! Though why was the anjanath running? I don't stink that bad right?"

Unfortunately for the hunter, her answer would literally appear right before her eyes, as two diabloses burst from the earth with great ferocity. Seeing the now blazing eyes focused on her, the hunter finally realized something.

"IT USED ME AS A DIVERSION!? THAT PINK BASSSTAAARRRD!" and on that day, many hunters, along with the egg chaser, were hunted down by two raging diabloses, many unsure why except the first victim of their wrath.
