Rise Of The Unworthy Trillionaire Son-in-law

Chapter 3: The Fake Bracelet

Everyone laughed at Ethan as they watched him groan in pain, he picked himself with shame, getting home a bracelet no one noticed quickly.

"I suggest that you leave before you get hurt Mr Ethan!" One of the bouncers warned as he dusted the little dirt off his suit.

"Let me in, he deserves to witness the birthday of his wife, it would be a shame if he didn't" a familiar voice called out to the bouncers and as Ethan turned around, a frown appeared on his face as he walked in majestically, holding hands with two beautiful ladies and staring deep into Ethan's eyes.

"But Lord David, he's not among the invited..."

"I said let the pauper in!" David Sinclair declared with a firm voice.

Guests who were outside, whispered as Ethan cleaned himself and walked past the bouncers, spitting on their suit with disgust on his face. On entering the grand ballroom, Ethan was stunned by the aesthetic decorations and by the high class men and women who groomed the occasion but like a plague, his presence brought an uncomfortable feeling among the crowd, they noticed him at once, his two piece suit seemed so off, a complete contrast of what was worn by others to the event.

"Look at the man who calls himself the husband of Evelyn, he looks pitiful" one of the guests whispered to her husband while the others laughed silently.

In no time, the event took off with melodious songs but Ethan's wife was nowhere to be found but still, he held tightly to his gift, savoring his sweet glass of wine and ignoring the constant glares from the preying eyes that were bound to haunt him.

"Tonight will be the dawn of a new chapter in the life of someone we consider a rare gem, a beautiful woman any man on earth will kill for. Tonight, we celebrate Mrs Evelyn Quine, one of the top rising models in the industry, her beauty and intelligence speaks better" a feminine voice called out to the crowd as they all stared at the beautiful lady in the spotlight.

Everyone cheered and like a true angel, the birthday celebrant walked in with girls pouring flowers on the ground for her to step on, she was as beautiful as the morning sun, Ethan smiled and for a moment, his troubles vanished, her beautiful gown, her shape and black raven hair was just too perfect, she was a goddess.

"I'm so glad to have all of you here with me tonight, I never knew I was this loved, thank you for your presence my darling guests, this means a lot to me" words came out of Evelyn's mouth and it sounded so magical with Ethan smiling so vividly, his love for Evelyn was divine and he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

"If all is well and settled, I would love to have a dance with my lady" a familiar voice called out from the wealthy crowd. Ethan's eyes shifted at once as Lord David took some bold steps towards his wife, he held her hand and placed one hand on her waist and like a planned event, the ballroom lights dimmed.

"You scumbag!" Ethan muttered in anger.

Everyone soon held hands with their partners, leaving Ethan alone on his table, he was greatly pissed as David Sinclair moved around and held his wife so passionately. He stood up at once and was prepared to end the dance when two private guards stopped him.

"You have to move back sir" they whispered, their words dangerous.

"Tell your master to let go of my woman or there will be chaos in a matter of minutes!" Ethan screamed, his voice sounded like lightning as the music gradually stopped with all eyes on him.

Mrs Judith's face grew cold as she looked at Ethan from her table, she clenched her fists in anger.

"Who let this Buffalo into the ballroom?, guards!" She screamed while Evelyn watched in shock and disappointment.

"This is my wife's birthday and I have all right to be here, If this spoiled brat called David Sinclair had any respect. He wouldn't meddle with the wife of worthy men!" Ethan thundered.

Four guards approached from behind with handcuffs to chain Ethan and drag him out, his presence was becoming a bad omen as the crowd gasped in shock at the words thrown at David Sinclair, fear was the least of Ethan's worries.

"No!, leave him alone, he deserves to be in the ballroom and as a matter of fact, we should respect our humble guest, the pride of Mrs Evelyn!" David said with a smile.

Evelyn said nothing as she watched, she grew ashamed by each passing moment but remained calm.

"In such case, we should proceed with the gifts we have for our darling celebrant, I believe that's the most important aspect of tonight" Mr Sinclair revealed.

Ethan smiled as he took a quick peek at his golden bracelet, he felt so relaxed and fulfilled.

"Mrs Evelyn, these are the keys to a Bentley Bentayga parked just outside this grand hall, it's all yours my lady" Mr David declared as he handed the keys to Evelyn who screamed and hugged him in joy.

"To compliment that, here's a check of $700k to support your career as a model, and as a token of your late father's good work when he was needed the most" another guest revealed as his guards gave Evelyn the check. In a matter of minutes, different guests brought in their gifts in cash and in kind but Ethan hadn't presented his.

"I can't help but notice that Mr Ethan hasn't presented his gift or don't you have anything to give to your wife?" David Sinclair asked and everyone turned their attention to Ethan in a heartbeat.

"I do have a gift for my darling wife, one that I believe will put a smile on her face" Ethan said out loud, his voice taking over the room.

Mr Sinclair smiled as the spotlight appeared on Ethan who walked majestically to his wife, holding her arms and staring into her eyes.

"And what do you have for me?" Evelyn asked, her smile promising.

"We have had our issues for weeks but tonight, I want us to settle and live in harmony, I love you Evelyn" Ethan confessed.

Everyone watched in awe as he kissed her passionately but they were also running impatient with each passing second.

"Where's your gift Ethan!" Mrs Judith's voice cut through the romance like a blade.

Ethan sighed and took out the box from his suit pocket, he opened it and took out the bracelet and wore it on her hand.

"A golden bracelet for a golden queen like you my darling Evelyn" he revealed, Evelyn hugged her husband, his gift was small but it meant something.

But behind Ethan came a dark frown from Lord David who whispered to Mrs Judith

"I thought you said he was poor, how can he afford such a gift?"

"He must have stolen it" Mrs Judith revealed and rushed to her daughter.

"And how did you manage to lay hands on such a gift you wretched bastard!" Mrs Judith screamed, her voice cutting through the beautiful moment.

"I bought it with my hard-earned cash, maybe you underestimated my love for your daughter" Ethan defended with a smile but his joy soon shattered to pieces when a voice declared with all boldness.

"The bracelet is fake!"

Everyone turned at once and behold, it was Mr Antonio, the manager at the jewelry store, everyone gasped in shock and Ethan stood completely confused.

"This man came to my renowned jewelry store, asking for a fake replica of the bracelet on her hand, I met his request but here he is, with a fake bracelet to fool you all and to mock his wife!" Mr Antonio revealed further.

Ethan was shocked beyond words and Evelyn's smile vanished in an instant, was this a joke or some sort of prank?.

Silence filled the hall in an instance.

Judith staggered back in mock horror. "So he lied... to everyone."

Ethan's face drained of color. He opened his mouth, but no words came.

Evelyn looked at her wrist. Then at Ethan. Her expression slowly changed from shock to betrayal, then to something colder.

"You gave me a fake bracelet?" she whispered. "You tried to trick me in front of everyone?"

"No I would never come so low to do such, this man is a liar!" Ethan screamed.

"Spare us the sob story," David said, stepping closer. "You tried to play king. But you're still the pauper."

The crowd murmured, some laughing now.

Judith's voice cut through again. "Take him out of here. Now."

As the guards moved in, Ethan looked at Evelyn one last time. She didn't speak. She didn't move.

"You don't believe I would do such a thing, do you?" Ethan asked as his heart raced.

The guards grabbed Ethan and in anger, he punched one, forcing a tooth out of the innocent guard.

"I demand that this man prove that this bracelet is fake!" he screamed, as everyone gasped in shock at what he had done.
