Chapter 4: Gold Digger
"Really?" Silvio is not stupid. He catches a hint of something else within Karen's eyes whenever she looks at him.
"I wouldn't lie to you. I promise. Cross my heart and hope to die." She sketches a cross over her chest.
"Hm. But you already know my identity, so I guess I am not suitable for you." He could tell she is up to something, so he tests her.
"Mr Gesell. To be perfectly honest, there's another reason why I am so anxious to find a boyfriend right now." She steps a little closer. " My family is pressuring me to get married to a man, but I don't like him at all. If I am already dating someone, they will leave me alone. Please, Mr Gesell."
When Karen entered the coffee shop, she had been thinking about how to get a guy to notice her, but now that she knows Silvio is hundreds time richer, her plan changes."
"Mr Gesell, I have no other choice, and I know you are a nice person, so please help me." Her voice breaks with a small sob.
Karen's acting is flawless. Furthermore, she is very beautiful. Silvio is enticed but he understands her motive. She must have figured he has a lot of money and is now targeting him.
He decides to play along with the gold-digger wannabe.
"Fine. I will do it."
"But I have a condition. I don't want anyone to know my identity."
" That's fine." Karen doesn't hesitate.
Karen has no intention of telling her cousin, Sara. Her cousin like rich persons, and she finds out Silvio is very rich, she would want him for herself. And since she goes to the same university as Silvio, Sara has the advantage. And Karen isn't prepared to tolerate any rival for Silvio's attention, not even her cousin.
She feels a little smug. Her cousin is spending time around a very rich person and doesn't even know about it. Sara even believes Silvio is a loser.
Sara returns.
"These cakes look delicious. Why don't you try one." She slides a cupcake onto his plate.
"And now you are serving him." Sara laughs as she teases him. She doesn't know why Karen is treating him so well. She assumes Karen is merely tricking him.
Sara glances at her with mischievous smile. She doesn't think much of Silvio, so she doesn't want him to be too comfortable.
When Karen notices her expression, she starts to worry. Sara has no idea what she is doing. Sara is provoking someone who has enough wealth to last her ten lifetimes. She needs to scold her harshly. Knowing Sara, she definitely would retaliate but for such man, quarrelling with her is worth it.
Karen’s anxiety grows as she sees Sara’s taunting smile. She approaches her cousin with a forced calmness. "Sara, can you please be a bit more considerate? Mr. Gesell is our guest."
Sara raises an eyebrow, still amused. "Oh, come on, Karen. I’m just having a little fun. He doesn’t mind, right?"
" Sara, don't talk nonsense!" She snaps.
Sara doesn't understand why Karen is glowering at her. She originally thought her cousin was just making fun of Silvio.
"Although you and my cousin are dating, doesn't mean you could do anything you want. You have to treat her with respect. Don't even try to hold her hands, let alone anything else!"
The blood rushes to Karen's head as she listens to Sara speak. That kind of remark is inappropriate and Sara seems to have abandoned the plan. Karen is getting angrier and angrier.
"If I can't hold his hand, how can I develop my relationship with him?" She thinks.
" That's enough, Sara knock it off! " She tells Zara, her toned is unpleasant.
Sara doesn't realize she is angry, so she keeps talking.
"While my cousin is dating you, she can still ask out any man she is interested in. She can even hold hands and kiss another man." Sara bluntly spells out the unfair terms of the relationship.
Alex feels very annoyed, "So, if I am in a relationship with your cousin, I can't touch her at all, but other man can kiss and sleep with her?"
"You finally get it. That's exactly what I meant!"
Karen's temper boils over and she slaps Sara's face.
Sara covers her face and looks at her cousin in disbelief, "I can't believe you hit me because of that loser? It was obvious that I was helping you!"
Sara's words just now could have easily caused her miss out on Silvio's fortune. If only she could get Silvio, her life would change massively for the better. Sara continued, "I am doing you a favour, right now, you know!"
" What are you talking about? Silvio is my man now. Please treat him with respect!" Karen said as she walked towards Silvio. She snuggled and pressed her breasts against Silvio's chest and glares at Sara.
Silvio smirks as didn't expect Karen to stand up for him against her own cousin. He raises his hand and massages Karen's breast.
"Ah..." Karen moans and blushes, making Sara angry.
He then pushes Karen softly to her cousin. "Treat your cousin." If he stays here, the situation would get worse. After he leaves, Karen gradually calms down and feels guilty about hitting Sara. Sara giggles when she sees Karen doesn't know how to apologize to her. "Karen, this is part of your trick to deceive that loser, right?"
Karen is puzzled because her anger was genuine.
Karen is torn between guilt and embarrassment as she realizes the gravity of her actions. She takes a deep breath, trying to regain her composure.
"Look, Sara," Karen says with a strained voice, "I’m really sorry about what happened. I didn’t handle it well, and I shouldn't have hit you. But you need to understand, this is important to me."
Sara's laughter fades as she sees the sincerity in Karen’s eyes. "Alright, Karen, I get it. But don’t think you can just play me like that. I’m not going to make it easy for you."
Karen nods, feeling a pang of regret. She turns back to Silvio, who has been observing the situation with mild amusement. "I hope you understand the situation better now," she says, trying to smooth things over.
"I did hit you too hard. Please don't hate me. Just wait, once I've got him, I will make sure you benefit too." Karen gently caresses Sara's face as she whispers.
