Chapter 8: Chapter 9: Conflict, Values, Third Grade
In the second-year corridor,
"You're not a second-year student, are you?"
Three students, their uniforms disheveled and looking like troublemakers, blocked Rey's path. Their sharp glares made it clear they weren't pleased to see him.
"I'm a new student this year, Ikigaya Rey. Nice to meet you, senpai."
Rey smiled brightly, greeting them without a hint of fear or hesitation. His calm, friendly demeanor almost seemed to challenge them.
Rey had always been drawn to delinquents like them. The moment he saw them, he felt an instant connection.
But this overly cheerful and calm attitude left the delinquents unsure. They began to wonder if Rey was somehow mentally off.
Their anger grew, embarrassed that a new student had the audacity to disrespect them—senpai.
"Don't get too familiar with us. You don't belong here. Go back to your own place."
"You came here to see how great we are, huh?"
"Get lost. There's no room for you here."
They immediately ordered him to leave.
"Ah, is there a rule saying that first-year students can't come to the second-year area? I didn't see anything like that."
Rey wasn't about to leave, and his eyes casually drifted toward the surveillance camera behind them.
"In this place, the rules we make are what matter."
"You better keep quiet, or I'll show you what real rules are."
The words came out sharp and threatening, which only served to increase the delinquents' anger. Their loud yelling echoed through the corridor, making it clear they weren't afraid to make a scene.
"Really? I don't believe you."
"Senpai, are you going to hit me? I'm starting to get scared."
Rey's tone was teasing, almost as if he were daring them to make the first move.
His smile showed he was looking for trouble, clearly challenging them to act.
This only made the delinquents angrier, but despite their scowls, they didn't make a move.
"Seems like this year's new students are something else, huh? Not even listening to their senpai."
"You definitely deserve a scolding!"
The commotion had attracted the attention of several second-year students, but no one came to intervene. No one seemed interested in stopping the scene.
"Useless guys, all they do is talk down to others but don't know how to do anything useful. Even if you died and turned to dust, your mouths would still be loud."
"You don't belong here, so get out."
Rey spoke indifferently and walked past them, heading toward the door to class D.
As he spoke the word "defect," he purposely raised his voice.
"Wow, you guys really aren't friendly, huh? Guess I'll see you later."
When no one made an attempt to strike him or respond, Rey decided not to escalate the situation further.
He left them behind, their hateful stares burning into his back, knowing they wouldn't forget this encounter.
The three delinquents began to plan.
"That guy…"
"Find out which class he's from."
"A new student that arrogant? Even if he's from class 1-A, I'll show him what hell is like!!!"
But Rey didn't care. With a casual stride, he continued deeper into the second-year area. Students were gathered in groups, chatting or engaged in extracurricular activities.
Rey paid them no mind and walked straight into a classroom.
Soon, the second-year students were whispering about the new student who had entered their territory.
But Rey remained indifferent. He stopped in front of a small blackboard and looked at the numbers written on it.

[B1200]
[C800]
[D300]
"Senpai, can you explain what this is?"
Rey asked casually, but no one responded.
He took a picture of the board.
"Could this be the school's grading system for you all?"
"From A to D… so class D is considered 'defective products,' huh?"
Rey spoke loudly in front of class D, deliberately provoking them.
"Who are you?"
"Which class are you from?"
"You come in here acting like you know everything?"
"You looking for trouble?"
His words ignited anger in several students from class D, and even students from other classes began to grow uneasy.
As expected, the word "defective" had triggered their emotions.
"Such an unfriendly senpai. I'll see you later."
Rey waved his hand dismissively and left after getting enough information.
As he walked away, he was sure the small board displayed the school's grading system. From this, he deduced that the scores applied to all classes, and he saw that class D had the lowest ratings.
With that, Rey moved on toward class three.
In class three, no one tried to stop him, perhaps having already heard about the situation in class two and choosing not to interfere.
Rey, confident from his earlier experience, went directly to the small board in class three.

[D200]
He quickly took another picture of the board.
"Seems like class D in class three is even worse off than in class two."
"Is the competition in class three tougher?"
"200 points, so they really do get free stuff…"
"Do the students in our class have scores like this?"
Rey then decided to enter class D in class three. The moment he stepped in, all eyes turned toward him.
"Who are you? You're a new student. What do you want?"
A girl with orange hair stepped out of the class.
"Could you tell me how many points you all get in a month? It probably doesn't even reach ten thousand, right? Senpai?"
Rey asked directly.
"I can't tell you."
The girl answered firmly.
Rey smiled and started analyzing the situation himself.
"You probably get about two thousand points a month, right? But if you want a more comfortable life, you must rely on the free stuff from the school."
"100 points for a thousand, so ten thousand should be enough if you can maintain that standard."
The girl's expression shifted slightly—though she didn't admit anything, her surprise was visible.
But she stuck to her stance.
"You're sharp, but I can't tell you anything. You'll have to figure it out yourself."
"Are you from class 1-A?"
Rey guessed, and the girl became increasingly uneasy, realizing Rey had figured it out.
"Don't worry, thanks for the information. If there's ever an opportunity, we can work together again."
Rey said as he left class D, knowing full well they didn't like him. But he had gathered all the information he needed.
Afterward, Rey headed toward the Student Council to find out more about the grading system and the rules of the school.
