Chapter 7: Chapter 8: Delinquents, Second Year
"What's the problem? What problem?"
A young man's voice could be heard.
"Excuse me... may I ask, do you really have a problem with your memory? Or is it a problem with your hearing?"
Horikita Suzune held back her anger and asked. It wasn't much of an issue earlier, but now his attitude was really starting to get on her nerves.
Following his gaze, Suzune also noticed the person outside.
"People like that should avoid interacting with them. Otherwise, it will lower your standards."
Horikita Suzune clearly didn't like the red-haired boy and wasn't surprised that he was getting into a conflict.
"Are you even listening to me?"
Seeing Rey completely ignore her, Suzune's tone became even colder.
"Oh, sorry..."
Rey replied with a confused expression.
This only made Suzune angrier.
"Is this guy for real?"
Suzune couldn't believe what was happening.
"So, you just don't want to answer?"
"I'll remember you."
The world really isn't fair. Someone could spend their entire life trying to get a beautiful girl to notice them, but still never be remembered. However, all it takes to make a beautiful girl remember you is to make her angry.
After watching the beautiful girl walk away, Rey didn't seem to be affected at all.
"Just like that? Suzune hardly ever talks to anyone."
As Suzune went to pay, a plain-looking boy who had been standing next to Rey suddenly spoke.
He looked like someone who was quite gloomy, clearly without many friends.
"Oh, I'm Ayanokoji Kiyotaka. I already introduced myself in class."
Seeing Rey's attention shift to him, Ayanokoji reminded him, though he wasn't sure if Rey would remember his name.
"Hello, Ayanokoji-san. I don't really understand what you mean."
"I have something to do, we can talk later."
Seeing the confusion on the man's face, Rey sincerely offered to talk later.
He lifted the corner of his mouth with a friendly expression, then left.
Ayanokoji Kiyotaka watched Rey walk towards the cashier without any expression.
His eyes then shifted back to the red-haired boy outside.
When Rey reached the cashier, he could still hear the commotion outside, which suited him just fine.
"Don't look down on me just because I'm a first-year!"
"You really dare to speak like that to us, second-year students? This is where our stuff is!"
"This is where our stuff is. So, just leave."
"Wow, scary~~ What class are you from? Let me guess, Class D, right?"
"So what if I am?"
"Did you hear that? He said Class D. Looks like his true nature has come out!"
"What do you mean by that? Hey!"
"Let's just leave this place to you 'defective products.' We're leaving."
"Think you can run?"
"Keep yelling! You'll soon experience hell."
It was like wild dogs fighting for territory.
The second-year seniors' laughter and jeering could be heard outside, with the red-haired boy looking like a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment.
However, for some reason, the second-year seniors retreated first, even though their words about Class D were clearly audible.
'Do they have special rules?'
'Calling us "defective products"?'
'So, I'm considered a defective product by the school?'
'If we're talking about physical abilities and academic performance, I shouldn't be considered a defective product. But if we're talking about personality or social contribution, maybe I really am a "defective product".'
Rey had a high level of self-awareness and didn't mind being labeled a defective product at all.
After successfully paying and leaving, he didn't spend much money since most of the items were free.
His thoughts about what he just overheard began to take shape.
Simply put, he might have been discarded into the trash pile.
If Class D is considered defective, then Class A must be the elite, right?
With this initial hypothesis, Rey couldn't wait to find out more.
After stepping out of the convenience store, the outside was in chaos due to the earlier confrontation with the red-haired boy. The instant noodles they were eating had spilled everywhere, and trash cans had been kicked over, with trash scattered everywhere. It was definitely going to be a major headache for the cleaning staff.
'Really an angry young man.'
'And seems to have no brains.'
Rey looked up and glanced at the surveillance camera facing the store door.
So, that scene was completely recorded, huh?
Is this how the school evaluates its students?
'There must be someone watching the footage, right? If I help clean up the trash, will I earn extra points?'
'Was that altercation even considered something? If I report it to the school with this video, will they take action?'
Whether it would help or not, Rey went back into the convenience store and asked about the surveillance cameras.
Surprisingly, it went smoothly. Not only could he watch the footage, but he also got a copy.
Without hesitation, Rey copied the video onto his phone.
After saving it back at the dorm, Rey returned to the campus area.
If he didn't find the information he was looking for from the higher grades, he planned to take the video to the student council to see what would happen.
Even if no one got punished, getting information and testing the limits of the school would be beneficial.
The floors in the campus area were separated by grade levels.
Rey didn't go through the first-year floor but went straight to the classrooms of other grades.
On the blackboard, there wasn't anything special written; just names like Shinjo Tomoya, Hoshinomiya Chie, and Sakagami Kazuma.
They seemed to be the names of homeroom teachers.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"What are you doing here?"
Nothing had happened in the first year, but as Rey was casually walking through the second-year classrooms, someone suddenly blocked his path.
