Chapter 19: Chapter 20: Betrayal, Six Million Points
Hearing Rey reveal the information.
"Hmph."
Ryuen Kakeru scoffed.
"So, you're here to propose a partnership? Do you represent Class D?"
"I don't represent Class D."
Rey responded calmly.
This slightly angered Ryuen Kakeru, "Then why are you here?"
"I'm not here to partner with you."
"I told you, this is a transaction. I want your points."
"There's no need for our two classes to cooperate," Rey continued.
Combining the troubled Class C with Class D, also full of issues? To go up against Class A?
That was a ridiculous idea.
Class D was already troublesome enough, and adding the problem children of Class C wouldn't make things any better. Having more people doesn't always help.
"Your information isn't worth much, and do you really think you're in a position to ask for points now?" Ryuen Kakeru said dismissively.
He already knew the information, so what was the point of Rey pushing for it?
"Of course, I'm not just talking about this. This is just the beginning."
"If I told you, next month, I would make sure that Class D ends up at the very bottom, how would you react?"
"Isn't Class D already at the bottom?" Ryuen Kakeru replied.
"If Class A is the best, then the school must have selected them during the entrance process, right? I know how things are with Class C, and as for your Class D... hehe."
With a final cold laugh, Ryuen Kakeru felt like he understood everything.
"No, what I mean is, I'll make it extremely hard for Class D to rise. Don't worry, you won't need to worry about catching up to you. For example, I could make your class's score drop to zero. No new points for the class, and the gap between classes would be too large. Do you think anyone would bother trying to catch up? That would make sure you lose one competitor."
Rey spoke without hesitation, despite having to betray his own class.
In truth, he felt that if he did nothing, Class D would never gain any points anyway.
He had been observing the state of his classmates these past few days.
"You... you really are ruthless," Ryuen Kakeru said, finally acknowledging Rey.
He was completely shameless in selling out his classmates.
"And you should know, problem children, 'defective products,' don't mean they don't have capable people."
"How about this? We can sign a contract with your class's homeroom teacher. Next month, I'll make sure Class D ends up at the very bottom or even gets zero points. The condition is that I want six million points from your class. I'll accept installment payments."
Rey directly made his offer.
"Are you crazy? Six million points?" Ryuen Kakeru said, taken aback.
Six million? Their class's total allocation from the school was only around four million when they first entered.
"Six million isn't much. It's still a fair amount. It's only been a few days since we entered, and the school already gave you at least three million points. Even if your class's score drops, you'll still get some points every month. As long as you can manage the scores in your class, it's not a huge amount. If you already knew about the school's evaluation process, would you let the points continue to drop?"
"This is a deal for the whole class. Plus, this might not be the last chance for cooperation. You could even get leverage over them to use as a threat in the future. A price like that—six million points—isn't too much, is it?"
Rey stared at Ryuen Kakeru, his gaze unwavering.
"I'm not afraid of you. You just want to make our whole class work for you," Ryuen Kakeru said, pretending to scoff.
"And, there's also the issue of how you've gathered so many points."
"Of course, points are valuable. If the deal goes through, I'll also provide you with all this information. Seems like a good deal, doesn't it?" Rey responded.
"Six million is impossible. At most two million, and that's still in installments," Ryuen Kakeru rejected outright.
He slashed the offer down immediately.
"Two million is too little," Rey replied immediately.
"You can still go look for other classes, right? You must have a plan for that," Ryuen Kakeru said, aware that Rey had previously been running around to different classes.
"I combined several classes, and that's why I came up with the six million number. Each class, six million."
"Eliminating one competitor and getting to know the school's exam schedule in advance—that's already a huge profit."
"If I don't deal with Class D and reveal this information, do you think Class D will keep failing on purpose? Even if some people want to fail, I'll find a way to make them behave. At the very least, the competition between Class C and D will be clear."
"Even, I could drag you into this and prevent you from catching up with Class A and B. If you don't cooperate, I'll have no hesitation in getting Class A and B to join me against you."
Rey spoke decisively.
"Ryuen Kakeru, think carefully."
"You're the first person I've approached. If you reject me, the people after you will have a harder time."
Facing Rey's persistence, Ryuen Kakeru hesitated for a moment.
"You think I'm afraid? If I were afraid, I wouldn't have come."
"You think you're the only one who can take advantage of things? Why can't I work with other Class D people?"
But Ryuen Kakeru still couldn't bring himself to part with six million points.
"Well, they'll have to have the guts for that. They'll have to trust you."
"And besides the first contact, do you think no one will leak information later? That will just make Class D resent Class C even more."
"If this gets exposed now, they'll resent me. Isn't that worth six million points?"
Rey spoke without any concern.
Betraying your own class openly wasn't an easy task.
But if there were such a person in the class, it might not necessarily be a bad thing.
