Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 195: Divorce in the Apocalypse

"But how can neighbors go and band with outsiders to attack us? This is so unreasonable!" Auntie Li said with indignation.

"Auntie, weren't you the one who felt sorry for the mother carrying a child that day and even wanted to give her some food?

She is currently standing near the elevator watching from there how we get robbed and probably killed.

I just heard her telling her child that they would wait until we can't defend ourselves and then take advantage of the chaos to sneak out a box of food.

Is that something someone would say to a young child only a few years old?" Lu Tao added fuel to the fire.

Of course, he had exaggerated. Even though that mother had indeed said something about fishing in troubled waters, she hadn't been so blunt. But that didn't matter now, as long as her family understood that anyone could turn against them as long as it benefitted them.

"What?!"

"How dare they?"

Auntie Li, Li Yunjia, and Li Han were all surprised to hear that.

How can people be so heartless?

"Encourage them to open the door and verify the facts if they don't believe it. Don't worry, I am here." Lu Tao suddenly heard Lu Zhen say.

Since he was using his super hearing ability, only he heard the message.

Thus, he proceeded with the mission.

"If you think I am making this stuff up, you can open the door and see if all those people don't attack us for our supplies." Lu Tao said again with indignation.

No one would ever doubt that he was just writing and directing a play with his brother.

"Even though people have changed in the apocalypse, I don't think they have become murderers without a bottom line." Auntie Li really didn't want to believe that the world had become so dark. So, she was willing to stake her safety for the belief that people still had their humanity.

She went to the door and opened it. What she had not expected was that even before she could say anything, a hand shoved her backwards and a gun was pointed on her forehead.

"What…what are you doing?" She asked with a trembling voice.

She was already starting to regret her decision. Why didn't she just believe her nephew?

She looked at the people who looked manacingly at her and her family and finally understood that the world had changed.

The woman who was pulling and pushing with her husband, seeing others rushing into the Lu family apartment, bit her husband's arm and shouted for him to let go.

"If I let go and you enter that house and take something from it, we are divorcing. I don't care if there is no office anymore to get a formal divorce certificate, you and I will be done." The husband had a moral bottom line and would never do something like rob others off their hard work even if he starved to death.

"What's so great about staying married to you? You can't give me the life I want now anyways. Thank the heavens you and I never had children, otherwise you might use them to morally blackmail me into staying with you.

Just so you know, I have already been with Boss Wang for a while now. He can give me everything you can't. Why should I still be with a loser like you?" The wife said such hurtful and humiliating words without an ounce of shame or remorse.

"What did you say?" Her husband was shocked. He had not expected that when the woman usually claims to be going to have a chat with other women in their building because she was bored, she was actually going to see another man.

"What are you so surprised about? Did you think I would still stick with you when you have basically nothing left apart from the furniture in your house?

What can that expensive furniture do? It can't feed me. So, I will follow the man who can." The wife shouted again.

Everyone had already been drawn to their quarrel. Even those who had budged into the Lu family apartment were listening with relish.

Boss Wang was their leader. When he saw the man and woman still pulling each other and arguing, he gave one of his subordinates a look and he went back to the couple.

Without a word, he punched the husband so hard in the stomach that he doubled over from the pain and let go of his wife's hand.

"You are not qualified to touch our boss' woman. Know your place." The subordinate said sarcastically and spat on the ground.

Juan Ke looked at his wife of six years who now looked at him with disdain and said nothing when she saw him beaten and humiliated and his heart turned to ice.

"Have you made your decision? If we separate now, there is.no turning back." Juan Ke said to her.

His wife didn't even hesitate and said, "If there was still a Civil Affairs Bureau, I would already be on my way there. Unfortunately, we cannot have that formality but you and I are done."

"Okay then, don't regret what you said today. The Civil Affairs Bureau might not be there, but we can use the ancient methods of making documents legal.

Saying that, Juan Ke walked over to the door of the Lu family which was still surrounded by thugs and some neighbors looking to score some benefits.

He looked at Lu Tao and asked, "Can I have a pen and paper and some stamp ink?"

"Sure." Lu Tao replied. He was glad that the man had finally decided to divorce that woman.

In fact, he had already known when she started cheating on him, but he was an outsider and it wasn't his place to say.

Now however, he could help the brother escape this woman. Thus, he ran back to the study to get a pen, paper, and the stamp ink.
