Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 189: Atrocities in the Apocalypse

"Speak." After making sure that they were beyond earshot, Lu Zhen immediately spoke.

"I didn't expect to find you here. The boss has been looking into your whereabouts since the first day of the disaster.

He didn't find you in your villa and thought that something might have happened to you." The soldier leader said to Lu Zhen.

"Well, as you can see, I am fine. Go tell him not to worry." Lu Zhen replied.

"Yes sir. He will be overjoyed to hear that. Can you tell me where you live? I will give him the address then he might look for you himself." The leader said again.

He had to get the address because if he didn't, he was worried that the leader would skin him alive for failing as a soldier and a human.

"Mmm…." Lu Zhen agreed immediately and proceeded to give him his address.

He also hoped to see his friend. If they could join forces, then surviving the apocalypse and protecting humanity would become easier.

"Aah…that…I am sorry about offending your wife. I just thought I was protecting the people who remain on earth.

I didn't expect them to be a cancer that is eroding the remaining humanity." The leader apologized.

"It's alright. Just try to find the cause and effect next time before you judge someone's actions." Lu Zhen said to him.

He didn't take this conflict too seriously because he knew that his wife was not at a disadvantage. So, he didn't intend to pursue the matter.

"Yes sir." The leader agreed and gave Lu Zhen a standard military salute.

On Leng Pan's side, the other soldiers apologized for misunderstanding her and judging her actions without knowing the truth.

"It's alright. I know it's your duty to protect all citizens even in this crumbling world because that's the oath you took. But maybe you should start considering that the world had changed." Leng Pan said to the soldiers good-naturedly.

In fact, she didn't blame them. After all, they were just doing the duty they were supposed to be doing.

The people standing around and adding fuel to the fire were the problem. These were the self-righteous people who thought only their opinion matters and anyone who didn't fit their opinion was wrong.

Especially the woman who had been shouting about her being cruel. Anyone with eyes could see that she was just jealous of Leng Pan and wanted to discredit her in front of all those people.

She didn't expect Leng Pan not to back down and instead to expose the evil dead of those people in front of everyone.

Moreover, she had kicked an iron plate because Leng Pan also had the protection of Lu Zhen. She didn't dare to say a word more after seeing how Lu Zhen had set those people on fire without a word.

They were still burning very slowly. The fire had started from the tip of their toes and was still burning upwards. There legs were still burning and to make matters worse, they were still breathing.

So, they could experience all the pain. This was such a cruel way to kill a person.

That chatty woman didn't even dare to make a peep anymore. The others who were supporting her before were also slipping away quietly to avoid the firepower turning on them.

They didn't want to turn into mummies like the people on the ground.

As Leng Pan was talking to the soldiers about the changes that had occurred in navigating the law in the apocalypse, a young girl around eighteen years old approached her timidly.

"Thank you." She said in a low voice, but the few people including Leng Pan and the soldiers heard her.

"For what?" Leng Pan asked puzzled.

She hadn't seen this girl before, so she was sure she hadn't done anything for her. Why was she thanking her then?

"For getting rid of them. They gang raped my elder sister, who was twenty years old to death and didn't even spare our neighbor's granddaughter who was only fourteen years old.

They came to our building carrying sticks and knives and robbed all the food in the house. They weren't satisfied with the supplies they took and started harassing the women in the building, especially in the houses which didn't have many men to protect the women.

One man who seemed to be their leader tried to pursuade them to take the supplies and leave, but they ignored him and called him a coward. Saying that he didn't know how to enjoy life especially now that no matter what they did to the women, they couldn't go to jail and wouldn't have to pay any price." At this point, the girl was sobbing uncontrollably to the point of hiccuping.

Leng Pan felt sorry for her and offered her a tissue from her pocket.

The girl took the tissue, wiped her tears and mucus and continued to explain.

"My sister resisted at first and tried to fight them, but when they saw me they threatened to rape me in front of her. In order to protect me, my sister stopped struggling and asked them to let me go out and they could do whatever they wanted to her.

I didn't want to leave, but they held a knife to my sister's neck and said they would server her carotid artery and kill her. I had no choice but to leave.

I wanted to stay close by and help my sister after they left, but that leader they called Uncle Zoro told me to go far from there. Somewhere they won't see me when they leave because if they saw me, they won't spare me either.

So, I listened to him and ran away. I hod in an abandoned building for a few hours before going back.

Luckily, the zombies were slow and couldn't catch up to me. But when I went back, I found my sister lying on the ground, her body already cold as ice."
