Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 183: Getting Robbed

The others felt that this made sense and took action immediately. To them, the message was equivalent to an imperial edict that had to be followed to the tee.

The group separated into various smaller groups and went to different locations to look for supplies that would assist them in the winter.

They didn't know the specific time left before the disaster happened, so they didn't dare to waste time.

Other people who believed the message also did the same. Those in big houses that have basements chose to live there during the extreme cold and even the timid ones finally decided to leave their homes to look for fuel and food.

The next few days were bustling with activities in different cities, towns, and even villages around the world.

In this way, the population of zombies also suffered a hit. Even though some other humans still fell victim to the zombies getting stronger, many who went out to scavenge fought with their lives to survive and take supplies home.

This surge of people into the streets to collect supplies also contributed to the amount of supplies available.

Gas stations saw a large surge of people collecting gasoline and many shops that stocked generators also experienced numerous break-ins for zero-dollar shopping.

People also raided parks and chopped the trees available and even decorative bushes.

Many had already dried because of lack of care in the last few weeks since the apocalypse started.

Even though people preferred easy to operate heating systems, with many places lacking power, there was no choice but to look for alternative ways of providing heat when the extreme cold really came.

Furniture stores were not spared either as people who felt that they had not collected enough fuel chopped up furniture and timber used in workshops as firewood.

In order to fit in with the rest of the crowd, Lu Zhen and his family also went out everyday for the next few days and came back with a lot of stuff.

Because they were trying to save more people and protect as many humans as possible, they didn't fight for resources with those who were scavenging within the city.

Instead, they went to the forests and mountains in the outskirts of the city to chop firewood.

They weren't the only ones who had come up with this idea and they met a couple more groups on the first day they went to the mountain.

Unfortunately, one of the group was not honest and waited until they had chopped large logs of wood and even Lu Zhen and Uncle Li chopped them into pieces to surround them.

It was a group of about a dozen men and two women. From the behavior of the women, one could tell that they were the kind who didn't want to get tired but demanded a good life.

Thus, they had chosen to live as a plaything for that group of men in exchange for protection and food.

"Hand over the wood you have chopped if you want to keep your lives." One man with a scat running on the side of the neck said roughly.

That day, only Lu Zhen, Leng Pan, Uncle Li, and assistant Yao had gone to chop wood.

Even though Leng Pan insisted on helping, the men refused and she was more like their lookout than a helper.

She looked at this overconfident group of people and looked away.

She didn't understand where they got their confidence from. They were just flaunting their numbers but had no real substance.

Lu Zhen and the others ignored the group as well and continued to load the chopped wood into the truck they had brought.

Seeing how they were treated like invisible nuisances, the leader of the group got angry and shouted.

"I said you should give this firewood to us and leave. Don't force me to take action because you won't like it."

Lu Zhen and the others remained silent and continued with their work. Leng Pan turned to look at those people and sized them up from top to bottom as if to determine their level of skill or danger before turning away again and looking at her handsome husband carrying heavy logs as if they weighed nothing.

It looked like her husband's strength had increased to an inhumane level. This was great.

The women in the group of self-proclaimed bandits got jealous of Leng Pan when they saw how beautiful and ruddy she looked when they looked like they had been sucked dry.

They had to rely on tons of makeup to make themselves look presentable because they had to sleep with multiple men just to get food.

Seeing a woman who didn't look any different from before the apocalypse started made them so jealous they wanted to scratch her face.

"Hey, brother Jin is asking for your firewood because he thinks highly of you. Who do you think you are to ignore him like that?" One of the women shouted.

However, just like before, she was treated like a barking dog. She got no response.

This infuriated everyone in that group. They thought that Lu Zhen's group was looking down on them. Otherwise, they wouldn't treat them like jumping clowns.

"Are you deaf? We are talking to you." Another man shouted while moving closer to the four people.

However, it seemed that their leader wasn't an idiot. Seeing how calm Leng Pan's group was even when surrounded and still going on to do their errands, he realized that they weren't simple.

He had been a part of a small city hang before the apocalypse started and had awakened a strength-type superpower. He could now punch holes in walls, but he wasn't stupid or overly arrogant.

Since he could awaken such a superpower, others could as well, and he had met some superpower users with stronger abilities than his.

Seeing the scene in front of him, he immediately realized that these people probably fell in the category of those with strength higher than his own.

He didn't want to provoke such people. So, he made a decision just as the man shouting was pulling his sword and about to attack.

"Retreat. Let's go chop firewood on the other side."
