Chapter 5: Lords of the Sectors
I didn't know this at first, but Clara is also a cursed skill. It makes sense when you think about it. It evolved the same way as cursed petrification and is even more powerful. After all, we've all heard the saying, Knowledge Is Power. Its effect, increases my IQ level by a whole lot, allowing me to think much further ahead. This is why I know what the king's answer will be and already made a new plan. A more effective one.
"Thank you, your majesty. My request is rather simple. Something that you could do while seated on your throne."
He laughed as if to show a sign of relief. "Is that so. Then tell me what you desire. Is it money, land, fame, authority?"
"None of those. I wish that, you use your power, as the king of a nation, to make a small change."
"What change?" He began to be worried.
"The way of worship."
"What do you mean?"
"I ask that you make the people change who they worship. Make them worship some other being that isn't the goddess."
"What?" He was shocked.
"You could write a law to change or destroy the temples or do whatever. Just make them change who they worship."
"Why would you want me to do that? Why that? That's impossible."
"I understand that its very difficult. However, you and your kingdom owe me." As soon as I said this, I released my dark aura that covered the entire hall. Everyone was scared. Screaming, shouting, sweating. Even the king. But the man that stood beside him didn't even flinch.
I stopped and sighed. "How about this. I will leave for now and come back after a week. During this time, you will make your choice. Then I'll come back for the answer. Don't make me resort to a new strategy." I stood up and walked towards the door.
"It doesn't have to be this way. You could ask for something else." The king said.
"Yes. It doesn't have to be this way. Blame your goddess for this."
"If you walk out of that door you will be labelled as an enemy of mankind.
"I thought I already am seeing that I destroyed an entire nation. You still have the courage to tell threats to someone that killed millions with one attack. Do you even love yourself?"
Then I walked out and the nobles started talking to themselves.
"Hey. What was the population of Crinelis?" One asked.
"It was over seven million. Luckily it was a small nation."
"Seven million? Has there ever been someone who killed so many in such a short amount of time?"
"Only in history."
"Your majesty." Another noble shouted. "We cannot comply to his demands. If our nation stops worshipping the goddess we'll become enemies of the Holy kingdom."
"Then what do we do? Become the enemies of the Holy Kingdom or of the strongest person currently alive." The king asked him.
"Your majesty, if I may." The man that stood next to the king spoke. "You seem to have forgotten that I was here."
The king laughed. "Oh, right. My apologies. How could I forget that you were here. Fear not my people, for we have the strongest man in this continent on our side."
All the people rejoiced as I stood outside of the doors listening. This people must be really stupid. Then again, he might be strong. Could he be a hero. Probably. Its either that, or he's really cocky. Either way, a huge smile appeared on my face, I'll deal with him myself.
For the coming week, I decided to go and learn more about the sectors, beginning with the closest one, Sector A. Located to the east of Crinelis. When I got there, it was nothing more than just a seemingly endless forest with a lot of monsters. This was my thought until I came across a cave in the middle of the sector where a large amount of mana was being released.
I went in the cave which was under a cliff. It was huge. After walking around in it for quite a while, I came across the source of that mana. A man with elf like ears and dark hair, seated on the ground facing the other way.
"Who might you be?" I asked.
"Seriously, that's their new strategy, to pretend that they don't know? Disappointing."
Then something came flying towards me. A blade made of mana. I simply dodged it though.
"Huh? That's odd." I said. "You look a little smarter than the rest of the monsters I came across. It turns out your the same, even though you can talk."
"Your still alive?"
"Was that supposed to kill me. Don't say cliché lines like that. If its a fight you want then get up and face me."
He got up and turned towards me and our eyes met. Well kinda.
"You seriously don't know me? Have you been living under a rock or something?"
"I guess you'd say I was in another world." There was silence.
"Did you get here by yourself."
"Yeah."
"Are you a hero?"
"You think I'd work for that bitch in the sky calling herself a goddess?"
"If that's not the case then who are you. Your clearly not normal if you got here by yourself."
"What? Now your itching for a conversation. I still haven't got back at you for what you did earlier.
He sighed. "Then lets make it a little difficult." He smiled. "No magic. Only physical attacks."
I smiled back. "Until the other gives up."
Then we approached each other. Slowly accelerating. And threw our punches at each other's face. Both landed throwing us back. We met again and kept hitting each other at equal force. The force of the punches were so strong that the cave began to collapse and with time, the whole place crumbled.
In the midst of the dust, we both emerged, somehow with a very few amount of bruises.
"Your holding back." He told me.
"What?"
"Your not using your full strength."
"Doing that would mean activating a skill."
"As long as your not attacking me with it."
"If you say so." I removed the eye patch and opened my eye. The beautiful pink color glowed as my aura increased. He looked at me and thought, 'How could someone so powerful be hidden for so long. Could he really be a hero. Wait.' He looked at me attentively.
"I give up."
"Huh? You just told me to use my full power. Why are you suddenly giving up?"
"Because your not with them."
"Hmm. With who?"
"Your not a hero. You don't have the identification on you. Your not with the humans."
"Oh." I smiled. "Then who do you think I'm with?"
"That's what I'd like to know."
I looked at him attentively. "What are you?"
"I'm a vampire. The only existing one in this world."
"Alright then, Mr. Vampire. You don't seem to like the humans very much."
"I don't. Its because of them that my three siblings and I had to take refuge in caves in the middle of forests. They did this to us."
"What do you mean. Explain."
"My siblings and I once lived great lives with our master for thousands of years. The humans worshipped our master as they would a deity. In return, we provided them with protection from the constantly appearing demon lords that could destroy the entire human race. Our lives were peaceful until 400 years ago."
He continued. "This was the time that the goddess declared us as enemies of mankind. And, as if they were being mind controlled, they immediately turned on us and began hunting us down. But our master wouldn't allow us to kill them. We only ever defended ourselves. We were too strong for the humans to do anything."
"Until."
"Until the goddess realized this and sent a hero at a time that no demon lord appeared. She wasn't just a normal hero, she was strong. Too strong. Even for us. She targeted our master who couldn't fight back because of his size and eventually slew him. Then she began going for us. We weren't strong enough, so we split up and hid in caves and other unobvious places, living in fear for being hunted down for all these years."
"Wow. That must've been rough."
"It was."
"So what do you feel?"
"What?"
"Don't you feel anger and resentment towards the humans. Don't you feel like you've been betrayed by them. Like you wanna get back at them for what they did."
"Where are you going with this?"
"Come with me and conquer your fear. You wanna get your revenge, don't you?. You wanna kill them, don't you? Then come with me and do what you want to them."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"Because that hero is still alive."
Wow. Even after all those years she's still alive? How does the aging in this world work? "Then I'll protect you."
"Huh?"
"I can give you protection. All you have to do is come with me and you can finally get your revenge. You've seen how powerful I am. That's not even close to my full potential. Join me and let us bring fear to the world."
He looked at me cautiously. ' He's very weird.' He thought. I have to keep my guard up against him. Then again,' he smiled. 'He might turn out useful. I can get my revenge to the humans that chose to betray us. I have to stick with him.'
"Then what do we do next."
"Good answer. Next we go to the other sectors. By the way, why are they called sectors?"
"Its because the corpse of our master is close by. His corpse produces miasma that gathers up and becomes monsters. These 'sectors' are the lands that the humans could not take over from the monsters. Labelled A to D from west to east."
"And what about F?"
"F? I don't know that one. A to D were divided based on the amount of monsters in each one. When my siblings and I split apart, we each went to one sector and protected them by releasing our aura that scared away any humans. Since they knew the aura came from one monster, they gave us the nickname, Lords of the Sectors. Each sector its own lord."
"Then lets make our way to sector B." We walked for a while then I remembered I didn't tell him my name. "You can call me Nerezza Vingar. What's your name."
"My master never gave us one."
"How did you live without names?"
"It was normal for us."
"Alright then. We can call you..." I thought for a second. A cool sounding vampire name. It didn't take long to come up with one. " Cassius. Cassius Lenora. Yeah that sounds good. When you put them together it means empty light."
"Weird choice of meaning but I do like the name." And together, we arrived at the place where the lord of Sector B stays.
An underground cave where a huge amount of mana was coming from. More than the one from sector A.
"Is your sibling that much stronger than you?"
"Your about to find out." He walked in. I followed suit. The cave was pretty dark but there were some holes on the ceiling that brought in light. After a while, we came across an eye. A huge one that peered at us through the dark. Then it turned its head to face us.
A dragon. A freaking blue dragon. A vampire and a dragon are siblings. And it was really huge. It had wings on its back too unlike the green one.
"Brother." It spoke with a vibrating woman's voice. "What do you think your doing? You left your sector and brought a human along."
"Listen to me." He said. "We need him."
"We need a human? Stop talking nonsense and get rid of him."
"He beat me in a fight."
The dragon was puzzled and couldn't speak for a while. Then she seemed to change form and turned into an elf like lady with blue hair, clothes ,eyes. You get the point. Her clothes were long and silky, filled with accessories. She also had quite a bit of jewelry on her. Multiple earrings and necklaces.
"It'll be easier to have a conversation like this. Please, have a seat." Three seats made of ice appeared and we sat."
"Aren't you gonna fight back?" I asked.
"Whoever can beat my brother can also beat me. There's no point in fighting a loosing battle."
"But your stronger."
"Is that what he told you? Never mind that. What brings you here."
"Sister, we finally have a chance of fighting back." Cassius said.
"What do you mean."
"I know your angry." I started. "Who wouldn't be. When someone's angry, they want a way to release their rage. Especially if its at someone who betrayed them."
"And so what if I'm angry?"
"Humans."
She looked at me angrily. "What about them?"
"Lets kill them." I happily replied. "It'll be a week tomorrow. Come with me. And release your rage at the humans."
"What do you mean? And besides, I can't just walk away from the place I protect."
"He will take care of it." I said while pointing at Cassius."
"That's right." He supported me. "I've got things handled here."
"See. Its all taken care of. The thing is, I haven't seen you fight. So I don't know much about your power. Why don't you come with me and I'll show you what I mean." I gave her my hand. She grabbed it. Then I said, "Nirvana. That's your name. Nirvana Lenora."
She looked at me with satisfied eyes. "I shall gladly accept it."
Then we left and soon arrived back at the capital. Before I went in, I asked Nirvana to stay outside and hidden for a while. I went to the palace and noticed something. It was too quiet and empty. I walked to the throne room and opened the door. Then I saw that a huge amount of people were there waiting for me. Nobles, soldiers, even adventurers. I didn't walk in and stayed at the door.
"Is this your answer?" I asked.
There was one person lifting up a magic sphere to the center of the hall by using air magic. It broadcasted everything that was happening to the people in the city.
A knight walked up to the center of the hall, holding a scroll. "Nerezza Vingar!" He shouted. "By decree of his majesty, the king, you have been declared a criminal that opposes the kingdom. You will therefore be imprisoned and given the death penalty."
The people in the city were shocked. What could he have done to be given the death penalty, they wondered. Then the king spoke. "Knights, capture him. Don't let him escape." They appeared and surrounded me. I sighed.
"Your majesty, since you failed to fulfill your promise, I'll just have to take the debt you and your kingdom owe me another way." As soon as I said this, all the knights around me exploded like bubbles. Blood covered everywhere. People were shocked and filled with fear. The king tried to keep his composure.
"Adventurers! Attack him." They all charged. One by one, I pinned them to the ground, stuck my hand inside them, twisted their heads, broke their bones, burned them with magic. Eventually, they all died.
"Is there any other weak person I should be worried about before I go?" I only said this to provoke him and make him approach me. The man standing next to the king.
"What are you waiting for? Go kill him. The king commanded him. The man approached me. Standing at over seven feet, he tried to intimidate me with his body by getting close to me and literally look down on me, smiling maniacally. But he made a mistake and focused too much on me. This was when he saw my aura.
In the shadowy figure of a man, my aura towered above his head, He realized this and stopped smiling. Instead he began sweating and slowly looking up. Then he saw how my aura looked down on him, wearing a crazy smile. In the blink of an eye, I punched him in the gut and he flew outside the palace and through the city walls.
I went to him and picked him up, hitting him again and again. Then he grabbed the giant sword on his back and swung at me. I easily dodged in the air and kicked him in the face. But he grabbed my leg and hit me to the ground multiple times. Then he flung me to the air and jumped towards me with his sword deciding to finish me off.
But I jumped off it, grabbed it and stuck it in his chest. Then I pulled it out and cut off his head. I threw the sword at his body which is still mid air. It went through the neck and out the bottom, sticking into the ground. The fight was over.
"Nirvana. I'm finished. The rest is up to you." It turns out, she was watching the fight and was close by. "Don't hold back. But, there's one little girl you can't kill. You'll know her when you see her."
"Understood."
She then turned into a dragon and flew to the city, where huge bells where ringing. There was chaos in the city as the people saw a huge dragon fly towards them. The king stared out and saw as the massive creature approached. All other nobles were running around wondering what to do.
The dragon landed and released ice magic from its mouth, freezing everything and everyone. In the midst of the chaos, a little girl who looked around the age of five, wearing noble clothes, was running around looking for someone. The dragon saw her and approached her. For some reason, she had a different kind of aura and knew she was the one. Then the dragon told her that she must escape the city before she completely destroys it. And the girl ran.
Meanwhile, the dragon prepared a massive attack. She looked up at the sky and opened her mouth. Multiple magic circles of different sizes and colors stacked one on top of the other appeared above her. Then a thin beam of magic energy hit the ground causing a huge explosion of fire and ice. The girl's right hand was caught in the blast and burned but she survived.
And now, the capital city of the Havvothj'air kingdom was completely destroyed. Word got out that it was destroyed by a frost dragon. More specifically, the dragon lord. This made many people in other cities and kingdoms cower in fear that they may be next.
These words reached a woman that was watching an elf village burn. She had shot red hair. Then she turned around to the one that told her this with a smile.
"Oh. Is that so."
She had an earing on her with the dangling rectangular board that looked similar to the one belonging to the goddess. On it was a character written in the language of this world. A character that had one meaning... Hero.
