Volume 2 Chapter 25
After retracting the chains, I tossed them back up into the air.
The chains collided and converged around a central point, continuously reinforcing and wrapping around the periphery.
Like worker bees serving the queen bee or ants huddling together in the face of disaster, the chains swiftly formed a massive whole.
“…?!”
The adventurers couldn’t ignore such a spectacle, their faces displaying a spectrum of emotions. From my perspective, the converged chains were at least the size of a skyscraper.
It far exceeded the limit of what the Wind Wall could withstand. I maneuvered the movement chains like a meteor hammer, and the mass of chains probably seemed like an unavoidable Five-Finger Mountain to the adventurers. All I needed to do was let it fall.
Trafalgar and the others had already run off, leaving only the adventurers in its path.
——Boom!!!
The ground erupted with a thunderous cry, and under the overwhelming force, no adventurer escaped unscathed.
I began to retrieve the chains and shot a chain towards our starting point, hooking onto Carol Cat’s slender waist.
“Meow——”
“Sorry, that was impolite of me.”
I caught Carol Cat as we fell from the sky, using the retracted chains to form a temporary staircase in the air to cushion our landing, eventually landing safely on the ground.
“Meow? Anna, Miss, you weren’t going to leave me behind…”
“I never said that.”
My request for Higdelytha to ride with Trafalgar didn’t mean I intended to abandon Carol Cat.
Higdelytha could use the elven kind’s unique scouting ability to sense danger through nature, making her and Trafalgar a more secure pair.
“Miss Anna… Meow!”
Carol Cat burst into tears, she must have really thought I was going to leave her behind.
While her relief was touching, another problem was quite troubling.
“Um… could you not touch me randomly…?”
For some reason, Carol Cat’s curious paws were all over me.
“Where exactly does Miss Anna hide her weapons, meow…”
It turns out Carol Cat was also curious about the mechanics of my chains. From a common perspective, it’s impossible to use items from the storage space during combat, meaning the chains I used had to be carried on me. But carrying enough chains to weave a skyscraper was preposterous.
Carol Cat was thoroughly searching me, determined to uncover the truth.
“My weapon is a bit special… Definitely not hidden there…! Please stop!”
“Did I make Miss Anna angry, meow…”
“I’m not angry. Anyway, please hold on tight — Tempus fugit (time, accelerate)!”
I caught up with Trafalgar in an instant, holding Carol Cat.
“Sorry for the wait, Lord Trafalgar. Is everything alright?”
“………………”
“Baron Trafalgar?”
“Too many things happened too fast, my mind is still catching up. But let’s not talk about the extraordinary number of chains for now. How did you catch up to us so quickly? Now, you… carrying a person, are keeping pace with my steed?”
“Yes.”
I blinked, not understanding why Trafalgar found this strange.
“Is it weird?”
“Isn’t it? Although I have a few extra passengers, my steed is a genuine top-tier mount. Even an orc known for endurance on foot couldn’t match a steed, yet you, carrying a person, are running at the same speed as my mount… No, you seem to have plenty of energy to spare, making my steed look rather unimpressive.”
Trafalgar spoke tactfully, but he didn’t seem displeased, just genuinely astonished.
But since we successfully broke through the adventurer’s line straight away, these small details were insignificant. We should continue moving forward at full speed.
After about five minutes of maintaining top speed, Higdelytha, riding behind Trafalgar, sounded the alarm again.
“There are quite a few adventurers ahead… about forty, and many have mounts.”
“Damn, looks like we’ve run into a well-backed guild. Our luck is really bad. Having mounts means they can pursue us, and it will be difficult to increase speed while carrying two people, hard to shake them off.”
“Baron Trafalgar, please protect Lily. I’ll handle the situation.”
“Do you have any issues…?”
Me? Of course, I’m fine. Why?
“You’ve been running alongside a steed for over five minutes… Never mind, forget I asked.”
“Carol Cat, Lifa, I need your assistance.”
“Meow? Me? Can I really help, meow?”
Carol Cat was startled, her combat capabilities probably only extending to bullying little girls, so she didn’t expect to be of help.
“Yes, can you use 【Starfall】?”
“I can, meow, but what’s the use?”
Starfall: An easier magic skill for archers to learn. They shoot arrows into the sky, which then explode and rain down countless small arrows over a wide area.
It sounds impressive, but its biggest flaw is its laughably low damage. It’s like a raindrop, barely more powerful than that, similar to tickling. Archers learn this skill not for its damage, as even a mosquito’s bite counts, and even the weakest attack is still an attack. Starfall is very convenient for attracting a large number of monsters’ aggro, even considered a top-tier skill for pulling mobs.
When adventurers are capable of handling large groups of monsters, the team’s archers use Starfall to attack the monsters within range. As the monsters approach, defensive team members like shield bearers or knights with taunting skills take over, making it highly efficient for farming mobs.
It’s somewhat useful in PVE (Player vs Environment), but in PVP (Player vs Player)…
“Please use Starfall on the adventurers.”
