Chapter 37: Chapter 27
Horus and Merlin now arrived in the middle of desert, Merlin looked around and muttered."He sent us to the middle of the desert."
Horus frowned.
Just then they felt something coming in there direction.
They all hear the "living windstorm" blow out of nowhere... Horus and Merlin know this sound...
They saw a swirling sandstorm forming in the distance.
Within the storm, Horus and Merlin noticed movement—something rising from the sandy depths. It was a colossal black cobra, towering over them, its hiss carried by the gusting wind.
The cobra's hood flared, poised to strike and a second cobra, this one white, rearing up beside the first. And to their amazement, there were figures mounted atop these serpentine beings.
Anat and Astarte, two warrior goddesses, emerged from the storm. These exotic beauties, in their twenties, exuded an aura of power. Quick-tempered Astarte donned a wicked helmet adorned with bull horns, while calculating and sadistic Anat was clad in a panther skin, battle axe at the ready.
Anat grinned and said."It seems we are lucky today, we can make Lord Set happy by catching the sorcerer and Horus."
Astarte slipped out her forked tongue and replied."I sense some divinity nearby. Never thought it was these two."
Horus muttered."That is Set's cronies, Anat and Astarte, those gigantic cobras they are riding are not easy to kill."
Merlin replied."So they are one of Set's General's?"
Horus replied."Probably."
Merlin smiled and said."So taking these two out, would give the Nephthys and Bast more room to breathe in there war."
Horus nodded, he readied to fight with his spear.
The two cobras slithered towards them in an astouding speed, the black Cobra towers over them. The "wind" is its vicious HISS.
A second cobra, this one WHITE, rears up to join the first. The Cobras bare fangs like ivory scimitars and spits streams of burning venom like napalm --
Merlin helps his palm out creating blue translucent barrier blocking the flames. While Horus focuses all his divine sight available in his one eyes and throws his spear seeing a chance, he throws his spear, he also uses his abiity manipulate air to push the spear faster and the Spear flies through the air and strikes Anat in chest killing her.
While Astarte was horrified yelled."Anat."
The Black Cobra and white Cobra sensing there riders, suddenly stopped spitting flames, while Astarte was in state of shock
Merlin began to weave the spell Flare circle.
Beneath the creature, the ground erupted in fiery light. The Flare Circle materialized, an intricate magical circle glowing a deep, searing red. Symbols and glyphs etched with precision spun slowly within the circle, radiating a heat so intense that the air shimmered. The circle grew in size until it fully encased the two gigantic serpent's, locking it within an arcane prison.
Astarte sensing tried to command the serpent's to kill Merlin, but its efforts were futile. The runes of the Flare Circle pulsed, feeding off Merlin's will as he channeled more power into the spell.
"Flare circle,"Merlin intoned, slamming the base of his staff into the ground. The temperature within the barrier surged, the very air inside igniting. Waves of heat rippled through the barrier, distorting the view of the creature as the space inside became a superheated furnace.
The two serpent's roared in pain as the flames began to take form. A tornado of fire erupted from the center of the circle, spiraling upward with ferocious intensity. The fiery vortex twisted and writhed, its flames licking hungrily at the creature's form.
Astrate screamed in pain being burned alive,
while molecular motion within the circle accelerated, each particle igniting in a cascade of radiant heat. The flames grew hotter, turning from orange to white-hot, as the vortex reached its peak.
The serpents thrashed wildly, its body engulfed in the unforgiving inferno. Its roars turned to shrieks as the fire consumed it, searing its very essence. The ground beneath the circle began to glow molten red, cracks spreading outward as the immense heat melted stone and earth alike.
Merlin's eyes narrowed as he clenched his staff tighter.
Horus looked at the tortuous death of the two serpent's along with Astarte and thought."Well those two were already exiled once by father, for feeding mortals to snakes. So they won't be missed?"
Merlin nodded, while suddenly they felt something coming at there direction again.
It was Set, who now gained more power was able to sense the death of Anat and Astarte, he pinpointed there location and from his new palace and muttered." That sorcerer is becoming annyoing, while mu nephew is giving me suprises it is tough to kill that boy, just like his uncle."
Set raised his hands and as the
the sands themselves railled to his cause, a sheet of sand rising from the desert where Merlin and Horus was, millions of particles flying upward, into the path of Merlin and Horus direction.
Merlin and Horus sight of the desert virtually coming alive and rising up towards them.
Merlin muttered."We are in Set's domain."
Originally Set won't able to control the desert sands from such a distance, but with him stealing powers from other gods. His powers are God king level.
Horus added."The desert, he has grown more powerful."
Merlin and Horus ran, while the wall of sand was arising, and chasing them; incredibly the sands seemed to be gathering into an image straight out of hell!
"Merlin! The portal—now!" Horus shouted, his voice barely cutting through the deafening howl of the sandstorm.
Merlin skidded to a halt, his robes billowing as he thrust his hand forward. He held his hand out and tracing their right hand in an anticlockwise circular pattern while focusing on the House of Mystery.
The portal appears it is circular, glowing ring of fiery energy. It appears to shimmer and pulsate with intense heat, radiating sparks and embers that scatter outward into the surrounding air. The portal's edges are dynamic, constantly shifting with a bright golden-orange hue, resembling spark or flames.
"Jump!" Merlin commanded.
Horus didn't hesitate. Both dove through the portal just as the monstrous sands lunged forward, snapping shut like jaws around where they had stood. The portal sealed behind them with a resounding boom, leaving only silence in the desert.
Inside the House of Mystery, they collapsed onto the floor of the ornate living room, coughing and spitting out grains of sand. Merlin furiously swiped at his robes, while Horus shook his hair free of the golden dust.
Footsteps echoed as Atlanta, Hathor, Zaya, and Isis rushed in, their expressions a mix of concern and disbelief.
"What in the name of Ra happened to you two?" Hathor exclaimed, helping Merlin to his feet while Isis knelt to assist Horus.
Hathor crossed her arms, concern etched on her face. "Weren't you going to meet Lord Ra?"
Horus's voice was low and bitter. "We did. He rejected our plea for help."
Isis stepped forward, her tone sharp, laced with anger and sorrow. "Rejected? Why would he do that?"
Horus glanced at her but said nothing, his silence speaking volumes. Merlin, brushing sand from his robes, finally answered. "Because he has plans for Set. He's choosing to look the other way."
The room fell silent as everyone turned to Merlin, confusion and unease in their eyes. Atlanta, standing with arms folded, broke the tension. "What could possibly be so important?"
Merlin sighed, his gaze heavy. "Ra intends for Set to take his place, to become the guardian who battles Apophis every night."
The words struck like a thunderclap.
A heavy silence filled the room. Even Atlanta, usually stoic, looked visibly shaken. She crossed her arms. "Set? The god of chaos? Ra thinks he'll willingly take on such a burden?"
Hathor's voice quivered with disbelief. "I agree with Atlanta, does he really think Set will abandon everything—his power, his chaos—to face the beast alone, night after night, just for the sake of mortals?"
"Enough," Isis snapped, though her voice was tinged with doubt. "Show respect to Lord Ra."
Atlanta's lips tightened into a thin line. "It sounds more like blind faith. Ra seems to think Set will simply follow his decree, no questions asked."
Horus nodded solemnly, while Zaya, standing quietly by the door, murmured, "Perhaps Lord Ra is blinded by his love for Set."
Merlin's expression darkened. "Regardless of Ra's intentions, we can't waste time. Set's power is growing rapidly. If he finds Ammit, he'll become unstoppable—no god will be able to challenge him."
The weight of the situation pressed on everyone. Hathor, Isis, Zaya, Atlanta, and Horus nodded in grim agreement.
Horus sighed heavily, his hand brushing against the eyepatch covering his left eye. "But without my other eye, I can't use my powers. I'm helpless."
Merlin stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. "That's where you're wrong, Horus."
Horus frowned, his gaze snapping to Merlin. "What do you mean?"
Merlin held his gaze, his tone steady. "Ra told you that you'd strayed from the path, didn't he? My guess is that he meant you've grown reliant on your eyes, on the power they represent. But your strength doesn't come from them alone. It comes from your belief in yourself."
Horus's expression shifted, realization dawning. "So...when I lost my eyes, I lost my faith in myself. That's why I can't transform."
Merlin nodded. "Exactly. Your power has always been within you. The eyes were only a symbol, not the source."
Horus slowly gained enlightenment.
