Chapter 265: Throne Level
Good," Kael nodded, "But I also want something else, something each of you…"
Xu Ying and the others waited patiently for Kael to state what he wanted.
"Adolf, you can sit this one out, go stand by the corner," Kael suddenly said to Adolf.
The silence was just too deafening. Adolf found his colleagues looking at him as if they wanted to see if he would actually obey.
Adolf wanted to move, but he also didn't want to move. He didn't understand what Kael gained from tarnishing his dignity like this. It was already bad energy that he suffered the previous loss away from their eyes.
Must Kael make him lose face here again?
"Don't worry, you and I have already made a deal already. Or do you want to double it?" Kael asked.
Hearing this, Adolf's feet automatically moved and he walked to the side. It was already bad enough that he was forced to obey Kael six times in the future.
Xu Ying glanced at Adolf with a suspicious gaze. Adolf had refused to tell them the main reason why Kael had released him the first time. His words had been vague and he had mostly talked about him being sent back to deliver the message.
"Now," Kael returned his attention to Xu Ying, "You might be wondering what I need from all of you that I had to make sure you were all here.
Well, it's just a matter of creating insurance.
If I don't give you guys the heavenly beacon, you could be stuck on this planet until the heavenly kings eventually come here, which we all know is going to happen.
There's no need to hide it.
I'm the Primordial Lion, yet, for some reason, I seem to be born in an era where a lot of lion kings despise my existence, probably due to the past historical events of my predecessors.
Even Noel predicted this and made sure to keep me here, away from heaven…"
Xu Ying remained silent, all of what Kael said was true.
"...So, one of my priorities right now is to build a base of support among the lion kings of heaven, and you are going to help me with it."
Suddenly, golden intangible paper contracts appeared in front of all of them except Adolf, floating before their eyes and revealing their contents to them.
"I'll give you the heavenly beacon, but you have to join my Lion System. And the lion king that will be produced from fusing with this heavenly beacon will be indebted to me.
Payment: Six unconditional obedience."
Kael summarized the contents of their contracts.
He had thought of forcing all of them to swear oaths of secrecy to not tell anyone about what they experienced on the planet but he refrained from doing so. Someone like King Larvis would just use his almighty spirit powers to extract the memories of one of them and the rest will be history.
Kael had his reasons for selecting those conditions.
Firstly, these lions from heaven didn't know about his lion system, nor did they know the benefits. Many of them like Xu Ying had lion kings that had a neutral stance concerning the Primordial Lion.
Being added to the Lion System was no different than choosing his side. That alone could create enemies where there were none.
But Kael already knew the scale of the civil war he was bringing, why should he tone down now?
He had to force these lions to join the Lion System first. And once they joined, they would be able to complete referral missions by adding other lions in heaven to the lion system.
Kael simply sought to expose the lions of heaven to the lion system, and with the new features he was adding, he was sure that it would look very appealing to them.
Doing this would spread his influence without him having to even go to heaven. So many lions and lion kings also meant so many Conquering Activities, which also meant an influx of Conquering Essence.
Once the spatial distortion surrounding planet Eridoria was gone and the lion kings found him, Kael would be ready.
All is possible if everything goes according to plan.
As for the second condition, the user of the heavenly beacon had a debt of six unconditional obedience. That was just Kael's way of gaining more control and leeway in heaven without being present.
With the Lion System acting as a medium for communication, he could use the unconditional obedience as a measure to influence many things. The possibilities are endless.
"Hmm," Xu Ying was intrigued by the mechanisms surrounding the existence of this floating contract before him.
But he was more surprised at its content, especially the last condition.
"Six unconditional obedience? Why?" Xu Ying asked, frowning.
"Why not?" Kael said. "Don't try to negotiate, I'm not going any lower than this."
The Law of Conquering had not resisted the creation of his contract so he was sure that it was a fair deal. Didn't Chloe mention that the worth of one Heavenly Beacon was more than some worlds?
Hearing about the second condition for these contacts, Adolf could not help but allow a small smile to creep onto his lips. At least, he wasn't the only one that would be suffering.
"What are your requests?, tell me now so that I can know if I'll be able to fulfill them or not," Xu Ying said. He was unwilling to accept that second condition, especially when he knew he was mostly going to be keeping the heavenly beacon himself.
If he accepted the deal, he would have to look over his shoulders day and night, dreading the day Kael would ask him to do something he wasn't willing to do.
"Did you just try to negotiate?" Kael asked as his eyes narrowed and an oppressive aura erupted from his body.
Xu Ying swallowed his saliva, noticing Katari's hand twitching slightly.
"No, it's just that this condition is hard to accept. You could literally order us to kill ourselves and we would have no choice but to obey," Xu Ying defended.
Kael shook his head, "Don't worry, something like that wouldn't happen, not unless you give me a reason to.
Before you become skeptical and all that, ask yourself, have you done anything that would warrant me asking you to kill yourself?" Kael said.
He was being truthful, the contract would basically allow him to enforce a limited form of slavery on a lion king. Why would he wish to send such a useful unit to his death?
With someone like Adolf present, Kael had options.
Xu Ying and his crew did not understand the extent of Kael's plans, nor could they comprehend his goals. They could only read the surface of his intentions which he wasn't showing much.
If the lion system was like a deadly virus, then Xu Ying and his group were the carriers moving from one state to another.
Naturally, Kael did not need to tell them in detail, all they needed to know was what was in the contract. For someone like Xu Ying, the lion system was probably some kind of way for Kael to link himself with other lions.
He chalked it all down to the mysterious powers of a Primordial Lion.
Xu Ying struggled to make a decision. All the lion youths were staring at him, waiting for him to do the needful. They didn't have that much qualms about the contract although they were quite weary about the nature of the lion system.
"Xu Ying," Suddenly, Alora stepped forward and spoke out, "If you sign that contract, you will have to be obedient to the Primordial Lion.
We all know that you are the one that was arranged to inherit the heavenly beacon," She said.
Alora's timely words didn't catch Xu Ying off guard. It would be a lie if he said that he had not noticed her trembling fingers or her shifting eyes.
She was definitely anxious about something, he just didn't know what it was, and he had not bothered to look deep into it.
"Hmmm," He didn't agree or disagree with her statement.
Kael raised an eyebrow, finding this Alora quite interesting.
Alora sighed, taking a deep breath, this was it.
"I'll take the heavenly beacon for myself, you won't have to be indebted to the Primordial Lion," Alora declared.
"What?"
"Oh,"
"To be honest, I half expected this,"
The telepathic transmissions of the lion youths exploded with different exclamations.
Many of them had frowns on their faces, not because they were against Alora saying such things, but because they could also do it themselves.
Why didn't they think of this before?
"Are you serious?" Xu Ying asked with the lion language. His expression was no longer that of kindness or neutrality. The corners of his lips had fallen and he struggled to keep the growl from escaping his throat.
"Yes," Alora said with a firm nod. She was not afraid of Xu Ying, she was afraid of leaving this place without achieving her main goal.
"No, that's not…" Xu Ying was about to dismiss her.
"...And I'm willing to raise the debt from six to seven unconditional obedience, as long as the Primordial Lion ensures that I'm the one who fuses with the heavenly beacon," Alora said.
Her words stunned everyone at the throne level, including Kael.
