Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World

Chapter 175: The Settlement

Kael had only closed his eyes for a moment to rest, the next time he opened his eyes, it was morning.

It seemed like he had just blinked for a moment and the next thing he knew he was feeling the beach breeze of the early morning.

Kael hurriedly stood up in alert, he never realized that he would be so tired that he would sleep off.

He looked around to see that one of the three lionesses was no longer close by.

Sensing something, he raised his head to see a distant Chloe circling like a winged guardian.

She was watching him, scouting.

Eidel and Ruda were still close to him, already awake and looking around vigilantly.

Kael could guess what happened, Ruda and Eidel probably didn't make it easy for Chloe to be close to them.

"Chloe, come down," Kael sent the Air Lioness a telepathic message, to which she reacted swiftly.

Chloe dove down with speed and grace, in an instant, she landed in front of Kael, folding her wings and standing upright.

Eidel and Ruda gave her a nasty side-eye but didn't say anything, they just waited for Kael's orders.

"Where are we going from here?" Chloe asked. The two sisters also paid attention.

Kael didn't answer, instead, he began to stretch his limbs and spine, releasing a yawn that exposed his fine set of sharp golden teeth. He had just woken up after all.

After he did that, he paused in thought, "let's go in that direction," He said while looking at the west side of the beach.

That was also the region Burdo had pointed out, if they continued following the beach line in that direction, they would eventually come across Paradise Beach.

"Let's go," Kael said and began walking in that same direction.

Chloe, Ruda, and Eidel silently followed, and then they quickly found out something.

It was very uncomfortable to walk on the sand. They couldn't even run or jog properly without their paws sinking in and splashing sand everywhere.

This couldn't be helped, each of them was very large and had a lot of weight, a normal lion could have walked on the sand with no trouble but they weren't normal lions.

Chloe eventually spread her wings to fly, unable to bear the uncomfortable feeling of sand grains mixing with her fur. This was telling even with the fact that she was supposed to be the lightest among them.

Soon enough, Kael also spread his wings to fly too. Eidel and Ruda could only endure, they wanted to go back into the forest and follow Kael from the trees and the certainty of a hard ground.

Unfortunately, the beach was getting wider and wider as they traveled forth. Thankfully, Kael was not inconsiderate, he stayed low, gliding above the ground and keeping the sisters close.

A few hours later, well past into the afternoon with the sun hanging high, Kael and the lionesses saw a figure in the distance.

"Is that…a rib bone?" Eidel asked. Her reddish-yellow eyes locked on the distant figure and she was indeed sure that that was a rib bone.

A really big rib bone.

Kael and Chloe also noticed the Peculiar shape easily, having a much better vision than the rest.

That was indeed a rib bone of some creature. And whatever that creature was, it must have been very large when it was alive.

The rib bone was positioned vertically, with its pointy end facing the sky.

The closer they got to the rib bone, the clearer it got. They also discovered that there were other bones close by.

The bones were of varying sizes but all of them were at least two times Kael's height.

The bones seemed to form a curved line, separating what was on the other side from what was on their side.

When they got closer, they finally saw everything for what it was.

Kael dropped down in front of the massive rib bone, staring at it with unhidden interest. These bones did not look old at all, rather, they just looked a bit dried up.

He could still see teeth marks on some of the bones, clearly, someone or something had ripped off the flesh from these bones.

Not too far from them was a weird-looking street. To call it a street was being generous in fact.

On both sides were hut-like structures made of bones, leaves, and mud. The creators of these structures lacked any manner of creativity, at least they understood the concept of shelter.

There were no caves on the beaches, so it was inevitable that the creatures here would think of an alternative. Necessity was still the mother of invention irrespective of race or species.

Kael could see different creatures walking about, rabbits, deers, flamingos, bears, wolves, and foxes.

"How is this possible?" Kael asked, bewildered.

Chloe dropped down on his left and Eidel and Ruda walked by his right.

"It's like a safe zone where herbivores and carnivores can live in peace," Ruda commented with a strange glint in her eyes. She was eyeing a rabbit that was hopping by and minding its business.

Kael took a step forward…

"HEY STOP!"

A loud telepathic voice reached their minds, stopping them in their tracks.

Another rabbit hopped toward them with a fierce expression. This rabbit had fiery red fur like Eidel and an equally fiery temper.

He was small, just slightly larger than a regular rabbit but possessed a power level similar to a tier 2 wolf. For a rabbit, this would probably be tier 4 or tier 5.

"You have to pay before you enter," The rabbit said.

Kael raised his eyebrows, feeling a mix of amusement and annoyance. It had been so long since a weak herbivore like his rabbit talked to him with such impudence.

It was fascinating.

"We don't have anything in us," Kael said truthfully.

"Hen you're not allowed to enter," The rabbit immediately responded. He stood at attention and refused to move out of the way.

His intentions were clear, he wouldn't let Kael and his lionesses pass unless Kael paid something.

Kael smiled, finding this whole act hilarious. He truly wondered what gave this rabbit the guts to talk to an apex predator like him with such arrogance.

Whereas Kael found the rabbits ' confidence amusing, the same couldn't be said for Chloe and the two sisters.

Eidel was already releasing a deep growl and electricity coursed over Ruda's body.

Chloe's claws were bared and she stared at the rabbit with a deep frown. She may not be on good terms with Kael but even she couldn't sit by and watch lesser beings trample on her majesty of the lions.

It was an instinctive defense mechanism of someone who had watched many civilizations bow to the lion race.

The fiery rabbit frowned, sensing that something was wrong with these four lions. They weren't acting like they knew the rules.

"You must pay before you enter, that's the rule made by the leaders. Any act of violence will be met with lethal force," The rabbit warned, he could already see Eidel's teeth as she inched closer.

"Now now ladies, don't scare the rodent away," Kael said with a terrifying smile, subconsciously taking on a British accent.

The fiery rabbit felt a cold shiver sweep over his insides when he saw Kael's smile. Those were some really sharp teeth, they even glimmered under the sun, reflecting a cold light.

Sharp gold fangs, a mouth big enough to easily fit his head inside.

And those eyes, the rabbit didn't notice it before, but he did now. Kael's glowing eyes held no warmth, just disdain. He may be laughing but his eyes held suppressed killing intent.

He sensed danger.

But before he could move away, a grey light filled his vision before his mind went blank.

Kael gazed at the dazed rabbit with a satisfied smile. He took a step into the settlement and no one was there to stop him.

The three lionesses followed after, the sister wearing a devilish smile on their face.

"Lead us on a stroll around this…place," Kael commanded.

The rabbit, now under the absolute control of Kael, turned around like a zombie and walked into the street.

The rabbit hopped slowly, making sure that its new master was right behind him.

Kael's presence was nothing short of attention-grabbing. A massive golden lion walking through these things called streets quickly got the attention of many creatures on the way.

And there were three large lionesses following this large lion, most could already guess that this may be a small pride.

Little did they know that these were the very people planning their downfall.

Kael observed every detail of the settlement with interest, appreciating their orderliness.

"There doesn't seem to be a set order of how things are done, these creatures just do the bare minimum while respecting the rules. I don't understand it," Eidel commented.

"It's not like our Caste system. A rabbit acting as a guard? Can you imagine that?" Ruda said.

"Yes," Kael nodded as he began renewing the knowledge in his head, "Our caste system works, but it's flawed," He said.

His words stunned Eidel and Ruda. Chloe on the other hand showed a look of interest in Kael's words, as if she was surprised that he finally came to such a realization.
