“So, you like it when mommy touches you, huh? From now on, mommy will try to play more with both of you. So, you and your little brother need to behave, okay? When daddy comes back, all four of us will play together. How does that sound?” Qin Xue thought of him. These past few days she had been unconsciously missing him, an uncommon occurrence.

Perhaps in the past, she wasn’t as emotionally invested in him, and her hectic schedule had successfully diverted her attention from missing him.

But now she has no friends in the Imperial Capital, and her own business has yet to take off. Her feelings for him had deepened to the point where a day without seeing him feels like an eternity. Therefore, whenever she was free, his good deeds, his pampering, all these things made her feel like a child who never grew up.

“Waaa” Yu Chen’s loud cry broke into her thoughts. It seems that he was upset because he saw his mother playing only with his brother and not him. So he cried, demonstrating the validity of the saying, ‘The squeaky wheel gets the grease’.

Upon hearing the cry of her younger son, Qin Xue turned to look at him but continued to hold her elder son in her arms. She remained indifferent to the cries of her younger son, and continued holding her elder son. For her, crying children certainly wouldn’t be rewarded with cuddles.

“Are you hungry, Yu Chen?” Qin Xue said, reaching over to check his diapers. They were wet; it seemed like he needed a diaper change.

“Yu Ze,” she said soothingly, “lie down quietly. Your little brother has peed his diaper. I’ll feed you both milk once I change his diapers.” Qin Xue knew her children wouldn’t understand her explanation, but she spoke to them anyway, explaining why she had to put Yu Ze down to attend to Yu Chen.

A silent laugh on Yu Ze’s face revealed his tiny, bright gums. Despite the lack of teeth, he looked adorable and it was a heart-warming sight.

Seeing his reactions, Qin Xue started laughing too. She knew Yu Ze didn’t hold it against her when she attended to his younger brother without holding him. How she knew, she couldn’t explain either, but she had a strong feeling looking at Yu Ze, which surprised her too.

It was as if her elder son really understood what she was doing and appreciated her efforts. She remembered her mother’s words that Yu Ze was no ordinary child. Could he be understanding her intentions though he was still an infant?

Any further thoughts were cut short as her younger son was still crying. Qin Xue decided to pacify him before allowing her mind to explore further.

After feeding both her children and changing their diapers, half an hour elapsed. Looking out at the sky, Qin Xue settled the children in their cribs to sleep. Once they were asleep, she tended to her hygiene. She remembered the elder brother from the night before; she had promised to treat his mother today and she did not want any delays. Moreover, she was unsure if An Hao and Chu Xiaoqiao would show up today.

Yesterday they didn’t because she had informed them in advance that she had an exam on Monday and wouldn’t be home, so they should visit on Tuesday instead. However, Qin Xue hadn’t anticipated the robbery. Indeed, plans are subject to changes.

“Xue Ling, I need to treat that elder brother’s mother today, so please take care of the kids. If An Hao and Chu Xiaoqiao arrive, tell them to practice first. I’ll teach them other things once I’m back.” Qin Xue instructed Xue Ling while cooking breakfast.

“Understood. Hurry back, or the children will start crying from hunger.” Xue Ling had rested in the void last night, so it was reenergized today. If not for An Hao and Chu Xiaoqiao’s frequent visits, Xue Ling would’ve suggested Qin Xue let it accompany the children in the void, where it could teach the children and they could all enjoy the spiritual bamboo pith.
