Reborn in Blood: The Trials of a Leech. Book 2 - Bloody War

Chapter 3: Path to Evolution

After the pain subsided I saw words appear in my mind. So I relaxed trying to make myself feel less horrible. A few moments later I regained focus on the words in my head.

I still don't know what this all means. What am I supposed to even make of this? I know that single digits are likely, not good, but I know that 0.2 is horrible I might die.

Let's see if I can figure out anything more by focusing on it.

HP is health and that's how much damage I can take before dying. MP is mana used for spells and some skills. SP is my stamina which tells me how far I can push myself before getting tired and can be used for some skills. The higher these numbers are the stronger I am. Str is my physical power, and Vit is linked to HP and SP. Agi is different letting me move faster and control my actions making me more graceful, Int is how smart I am but also increases how much MP and the power of my spells. Chs is weird since that once influences the way others see me good or bad.

Skills are split into two types active and passive. Actives like bite I have to use it on others to activate it that uses up sp or mp, while passives are constantly on with no cost to use them.

Child of Blood- Increases all blood-related skills by 10%. Blood Body- This trait grants the individual the ability to control and manipulate their own blood, as well as the blood of others. They may possess heightened regenerative abilities, allowing them to rapidly heal wounds by manipulating their blood flow to clot injuries or regenerate tissue. Additionally, they might be able to weaponize their own blood, shaping it into sharp blades or tendrils to attack foes. However, due to the low rank and low stats, you are unable to use this trait fully and can only use your own blood.

If I had hair and hands I may have ripped my hair out. Though luckily it seems that titles and traits can be can evolve and change with evolution.

I have to remember what Father and Mother said to me before they died. Father told me to think and plan to survive and Mother said to hide and watch others closely. I need to think of a way to use my abilities to survive.

My best skill has to be stealth without hiding in my old world I would have been captured and killed or worse. As I continue to muse to myself another message appears before me.

Quest: Find a meal.

Reward: 2 exp.

Do you accept?

Yes/No

Realizing that I needed the experience points to level up and evolve into a G-rank monster, I reluctantly pressed the 'Accept' button as the message flashed, confirming my acceptance of the quest. Feeling the pangs of hunger returning, I decided to move and begin hunting for my meal.

Hours have passed waiting and slowly moving.

I sensed a presence nearby a large and unknown creature, a warm-blooded creature rooted among the fallen leaves, unaware of my stealthy approach or ignoring me.

My body undulated with anticipation as I sought out the scent more fervently now, zeroing in on the source of nourishment. With cautious grace, I climbed onto a nearby fern frond, my smooth underside adhering effortlessly to the plant's surface.

Silent and patient, I awaited the opportune moment, sensing the rhythmic movements of the creature as it foraged. When the time was right, I jumped off with precision, propelled by my muscular contractions and the pull of gravity.

I landed softly on the coarse hide, my body instinctively seeking out the warm currents of blood coursing beneath the surface. Specialized sensory organs tingled with delight as they made contact, confirming the presence of the life-giving fluid I craved, nay needed.

I positioned myself on what I believed to be a safe spot on the creature, preparing to strike. Timing my bite with the creature's movements as it pushed deeper into whatever plant it was feeding on, I attempted to pierce its skin. To my surprise, my efforts were futile, unable to penetrate the creature's tough hide.

Frustration gnawed at me as I pondered how to feed off this formidable beast. Recalling the details from when I last examined my status page, my thoughts turned to a particular trait of mine: Blood Body. The description hinted at the potential to weaponize my blood. Determined, I focused my will, imagining my fangs becoming sharper and stronger. This might be the key to feeding from this creature, or else I faced the grim possibility of going hungry and dying.

With hope and desperation fueling my actions, I concentrated with all my heart, channeling my blood towards my fangs with every ounce of strength. Miraculously, it worked, albeit at the cost of 1 HP. Determined not to squander this rare opportunity, I activated my Bite skill, sacrificing 1 SP. My fangs plunged deep into the creature's back, and I felt the satisfying rush of warm, delicious blood.

I drank greedily, unable to stop until an hour had passed and I was finally sated. Drained and content, I slumped off the creature, collapsing into a nearby bush. As bliss washed over me, I noticed further changes occurring my lost HP was restored, and the quest was completed.

Still wary of potential threats, I wriggled deeper into the protective embrace of the thorny bush, ensuring I remained hidden while my recent meal began its slow journey of digestion. Once safe I rested and started to dose off.
