Vanessa wasn't what you would call a "great mom," to begin with.
Yes, she loved her daughter, but she was so consumed by her desire for fame and her hatred for Rowen that she completely neglected Tara. Even so, Tara never once gave up faith that her mother would love her one day.
---
It was a sunny afternoon when Vanessa stepped out. She was dressed in casual jeans and a green shirt that matched the color of her eyes. Her curly brown hair looked as beautiful as ever, even as her mother shouted at her angrily.
"Where do you think you are going, young lady?"
"I'm a married woman, Mother. I don't need to tell you that!" With that, she drove away in her black car.
When she reached her destination, Vanessa parked her car and made her way into the building, which happened to be Graceland Middle School for the elite—a well-known school for the rich and wealthy.
Upon entering, she was immediately greeted by the guards, who showed her straight to her daughter's class. Of course, she did not need to explain who she was, since there was no one in Graceland who didn't know the "famous great actress."
"Excuse me?" Vanessa called out to the teacher, who instantly recognized her.
But the teacher still seemed confused about why the great Vanessa was in her class.
"How may I help you?" asked Teacher Lina.
"Sorry to interrupt, but I would like to request a day off for one of your students."
"My students? Why?" Lina asked.
"Well... I guess you could say I just want to spend a mother-daughter day with my daughter," Vanessa said with a grin. Just then, Tara's little voice interrupted them both.
"M-mommy?"
Upon hearing the sweet and innocent voice of her daughter, Vanessa looked down to find Tara in her small uniform with cute doe eyes. Immediately, Vanessa bent down to her daughter's height and hugged her so tightly she could hardly breathe.
"My baby, sob did you miss Mommy?" she asked, gently caressing Tara—a gesture she had never done before in her life.
Under her mom's embrace, Tara was almost in tears. She was so happy that she wanted to cry. Finally, after so long apart, her mom hugged her. Not wanting to let the opportunity slip, Tara hugged Vanessa tightly as they cried in each other's arms for a while.
After separating, Vanessa carried her daughter in her arms and announced, "This is my daughter," to Teacher Lina and the classmates.
Shocked, Lina looked at Tara for confirmation, and Tara nodded. Who would have ever thought that "the great Vanessa" had a daughter? Yes, there were rumors that she had a child with Rowen, but those were long dismissed as baseless.
Because Vanessa was too ashamed to let the world know about Tara, she had always made sure Tara was never seen with her or by any paparazzi—keeping everything about her daughter secret in the name of protecting her. But now, Vanessa wasn't just going to let Graceland know about her daughter; she was going to let the whole world know.
In this life, she would finally be the mother she never was before.
---
After sorting things out with Lina, Vanessa made her way out of the school with her daughter, and they drove off to their first destination. They had a whole list planned: from the spa to the park and then to a nice restaurant.
"We are going to have lots of fun!" Tara said excitedly.
"That's right, baby!" Vanessa replied.
---
Knock, knock.
"Come in," Rowen said as he scanned through the papers in his arms.
Upon hearing his boss's voice, George stepped forward, his face as expressionless as ever.
"Have you sent the driver to pick up Tara?" Rowen asked.
"Yes, sir, but the driver said that Tara has already been picked up from school," George replied.
Bam!
"What?!" Rowen exclaimed in surprise. "What do you mean, picked up from school? If I didn't pick her up, who did?"
Hesitating slightly, George said, "She was taken by Mrs. Owen this morning."
"Vanessa?" Rowen asked.
George nodded.
"Find out where she took Tara immediately!" Rowen shouted as George nodded and left the room.
---
It was 2 in the afternoon, and by that time, Vanessa and Tara had finished at the spa. Excitedly, Tara hugged her mom, while Vanessa simply stared into her daughter's happy face. Seeing how joyful Tara was warmed Vanessa's heart. She couldn't help but wonder why she had been so foolish in the past to abandon her cute child.
When Tara opened her eyes, she saw her mom staring at her and immediately moved away, her happy expression turning scared.
"I-I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't mean t-t-to—"
"No, no, no, Tara. Don't get me wrong. I'm not upset with you hugging me—in fact, I love it," Vanessa said with a smile as a sigh of relief escaped Tara.
Tara wasn't completely used to her mother's new, loving, and kind attitude.
"So now, where to?" Vanessa asked to break the awkward moment.
"You said we were going to the park after spa time," Tara reminded her, regaining her fun and energetic mood.
"Really? Alright! Park, here we come!" Vanessa replied.
With that, Vanessa carried Tara, and they made their way to the car, unaware that what lay ahead was not going to be a happy experience.
